GOD OF BLENDING MODE !
Hahaha thanks for your comment! :D
TRU
Wow, like magic happening right before my eyes!
Haha thanks for your comment! Cheers!
well said @laceincission88
laceincision88 Right this is magic
I made an automated PSD file which is for sale on the website for $4 if you don't want to go through the tutorial. You can basically just type in your text and the effect will apply itself.
www.madebymighty.space/downloads/
I hope this helps, cheers! :)
laceincision88 that's exactly what I'm thinking
Hey guys, the editable PSD file is available for purchase for $7 on the website for those who don't feel like going through the tutorial: www.madebymighty.space/downloads/
(This is NOT required to complete the tutorial, it's simply an alternative for those who would rather buy the product to save time or effort.)
Cheers everyone! :)
DO YOU MIND LEAVING THE STEPS ON HOW TO EDIT THE TEXT ONCE WE DOWNLOAD THE FILE
Great business model. I'm happy to pay to have this done, though I should learn it. Thanks so much!
Seconding what Vanessa said. Can you please leave steps on how to edit the text? The text is in the form of a smart object, so I'm not sure how to apply it to new text without just going through all the steps again.
Double click on the smart object layer. A new tab will open and you can edit it. Save and close, and it will update in the original file.
If I follow the steps and make this will i get copyrighted if i post this on Facebook??
I love how open to feedback you are! I'm super new to photoshop so I'm looking forward to videos where you explain the 'why' a little more. thanks for making these!
looks really good. I think it would be even better if you explain your thinking process with all the light work (which in my opinion would be the main things making the magic!), and how overlay or soft light could have a different looks. Just my two cents.
Your video is great no matter what, clear picture and just the right pace for me to follow. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for your feedback, it's really appreciated! I totally agree with you btw and looking back I wish I would have been deeper in the reasoning of every step. I will definitely keep this in mind for the upcoming tutorials. Cheers!
Same here
so much god dam work... I felt mentally tired after watching this process. Gud work dud!
Yeah I hear you :/ I know it can get a bit tedious but I hope it was worth it :P Cheers mate!
Man, you don't know how grateful I am right now! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
This stops me having to spend hours trying to cut out perfect lettering and do this all physically by hand your an actual lifesaver!!
Ahh that's awesome! I'm glad it can save you some time :) Thank you for the comment, cheers!
Great tutorial! Would be super helpful if you sometimes explained what the different choices you make does.
For example: "Then you change blend mode to screen because this enables...." and so on.
Either way, awesome job!
I absolutely agree, looking back I wish I explained the reasoning in greater details. This is something I am keeping in mind for the upcoming videos. Thank you for your feedback! Cheers mate! :)
Solberg Music If you don't know what the screen mode is for may be you should watch tutorials for beginners? Other peope just don't like too long tutorials where every step is explained.
he does it so you cannot edit/make shit yourself. If you could do it yourself people wouldnt buy is $5 PSD files. its intentional.
Agree with Solberg. This is definitely more of a "follow along with me" tutorial than a "let me teach you something" tutorial. I personally prefer to learn the "why" 'cause it helps with memory and is better for customizing a technique for my own work. This just feels like copying someone else's work. For instance, why -145 degrees? Why not just change the global light instead of unchecking? Why is Satin set to 45 and not -145? What happens if I need to change the lighting direction to match a composited photograph and how does that relate to the Satin angle? Why duplicate all these shadow layers instead of playing with the Bevel effect's opacity?
But this is a really cool technique so thanks to the artist for sharing his process! I'll have to try this for myself soon and see if I can figure out the "whys" on my own.
Navy Sisomphou for the global light if you dont uncheck it you'll have the same source of light for all your layers resulting for a uniform shadow and the image will be flat. He wants different light source/shadow for the text to pop out to make that paper effect.
awesome tuts man! thanks
I'm glad you like it man, thanks for the comment!
I was waiting for the paper cut effect throughout the video. And last layer did all the magic. Hahah brilliant.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge 😊
Thank you VERY MUCH 🙂🙏 had a few glitches here and there on the windows, but still ended up with awesome result, you are a true GENIUS 🤯
Result is clean and beautiful. Thank you)
You're welcome! I'm glad you liked it!
amazing!
Thank you!
As a seasoned PS user.... holy moley you are the God of layer effects, had no idea you could do the stuff in this tutorial
Hahaha thank you! :) There a lot of messing around and trial and error involved :P Thank you for your comment! Cheers!
Thanks Mighty! 👩💻Mine didn't turn out exactly the same of course, but feels awesome to actually be able to create something cool looking my first day of illustrator and photoshop. Not just a bunch of weird looking shapes and patterns 🙌
Fantastic video in all aspects. Great job.
Thank you! :)
took long enough for yt to recommend this to me. I WON'T FORGET
You are without a doubt one of the best instructors of photoshop available on youtube. Much respect!
Beautiful!
I'm starting now at Design and it's great to have you as a teacher!
Thank you man!
I don't even have photoshop and I'm watching this.
Hahah thank you for watching! :D
바보하기마 same 😹
next level dunno what to do lol
have you ever heard DIY anything; your not the only one...you never know when you need to design a complex but extraordinary paper cut "effect"
I dont have Photoshop either, but i want it
i didn't know what happen, so i watched 12:17 again again again.
finally i got it. press ALT and click upper layer's 'below border line'! i'm not good at english, but i hope to be help.
Just finished it right now. Tagged you on instagram. At first I was so disappointed because I did every step you did and it didn't look like it's changing. But I kept going thinking it would turn out good. It didn't. Until I realized I turned off some of the effect layers. And when I turned them back on it was even more magical. Thanks a lot!
Awesome I'm glad it worked out! :D Thank you for sharing this!
I'm lost. I don't have a text that's been created via Illustrator so I created a text using one of the fonts on photoshop. Whenever I try to do the Bevel and Emboss nothing is effecting the font. It doesn't add shadows or anything
Before doing any effects and stuff, try selecting your text and then go to Text (in the upper menu). Click on "convert to shape". I hope that helps!
MeTheUnicorn I'll try it out. Thanks for replying!
@MeTheUnicorn yeah right on, this is something I should have mentioned in the video. Cheers to the both of you! :)
Hi! I was having the same problem and tried what you said but it keeps giving an error and saying the text layer is using a false bold style. I don't know what that means, and I tried various different fonts and it give giving the same message :/
I managed to solve this! If you click on the character tab (it looks like 'A|' ) with your text layer selected, the bold T might be selected automatically! If you deselect it you should be able to convert the text to shape fine!
That nudge thing doesn't work in cc 2019 so that whole step I wasn't able to do. As a result my logo didn't come out like yours at all. Can you do an update?
nudge is just moving the whole layer using the arrow keys. Make sure that you click on the move tool to do so.
To be honest, I'm stuck at the same part - yes you can nudge it but CC 2019 doesn't seem to like keeping the blending modes going once it hits the masked layer mode. o_Oa Any idea how to change this?
@@LapresOfficial Did anyone made it? I'm having the same problem
If youre still wondering, I ended up just doing an inner bevel, 100% depth, 2 px for size, 8 for soften, 45 degree angle, 30 degree altitude and a multiply highlight at 70% I'm working with a darker under color, so my opacity is at 70%, adjust for what looks good, and i put the shadow at 0%
Had great success using this technique on an image I created for an assessment for college. I'll send you the instagram link of it completed when next able. Thank you so much for such a wonderful tutorial! Very easy to follow and sort out for myself.
Few tutorials of photoshop just are good until you are watching them. Once you start doing your own work, it will be proven not less than a nightmare. By the way, good job, sir!
I’ve literally followed this tutorial 4 times now word for word and it looks nothing alike.
Same...
Same
This is a CS6 tutorial, if you have CC they have changed a few things that can cause some differences between the tutorial and our updated versions of CC. I’m looking into if there’s an updated version or if there’s a couple work arounds in some steps (trying this tonight)
god damn it me tooooo
Just make minor adjustments after you finish. Worked perfectly fine for me. I have the newest version of PS btw
Help Please! I'm trying this from.past 3 days! as soon as i duplicate layer...delete effects...and start with blending option...no effect shows up..😭
This is soooo cool! I get really impatient with layer styles and all those different values but so admire that you're so meticulous with them. Like other people, would love to know the reasoning behind your choices, especially why you uncheck global light and why you choose one blending mode over another. An amazing tutorial. 🙌
Thank you for the great feedback, I really appreciate it! :) You're right, looking back I wish I explained the reasoning for everything a bit more and I will keep that in mind for the future tutorials. For the global light, to be honest I just developed a reflex of unchecking it that way If I ever want to change the angle of a certain highlight or shadow I can do so without affecting all the other effects. Thanks again for your comment!
Hey I just wanna say thanks for this tutorial
I'm bloody helpless with Photoshop and had never used it before I but I had to create a poster to pass my graphics class, it's thanks to this I made one that didn't drop my grades down
Thanks again for this dude!
It's a pleasure 😊 I'm glad I could help! Thanks for your comment!
Me at 16:11 - "hmm this doesn't really look like a paper cutout..."
Me at 16:13 - "WOW that was incredible, this is the coolest thing I've ever seen!!"
Hahaha awesome I'm glad you're satisfied with the end result :) Cheers!
Until the moment he said "And thats it guys" i thought it was going to look terrible.
For those of you confused at 12:06 regarding adding the inner shadow, you need to first select the Move arrow option in the left selection panel (looks like a cross with arrow heads on the end of each line) and then press the alt/cmd key and then the down arrow to nudge it down, alt/cmd key and then the left arrow to nudge it left. If you just press the down arrow and the left arrow it will do nothing.
Thanks!
Thanks
I thought i was pretty fit on layer effects, then i found this video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge, very interesting and helpful!
I was being skeptical that you were gonna get it right until the very last effect you applied. Great job!
Thanks man! I'm glad you stuck around till the end :) Cheers!
having a hard time doing the clipping mask from the upper layer to underneath layer..from the time interval between 12:14 onward, i click and hold on the alt button but the arrow sign wont appear. im using cs6. i tried the clipping mask manually but it not highlighted..
Ok instead try selecting the top layer, then go to “Layer” (in the menu bar) and select "Create Clipping Mask". Let me know if this works. Cheers!
Sir i also tried that but the 'clipping mask' is not highlighted also.. i really wanted to finish this project hehe..
Ur paper cut effect is perfect compare to other edits i found in youtube.. dont understand why the clipping mask is not working, i follow each and every step in ur tuts..
Hi, can you send me a screenshot of your workspace including your layer palette so I can try and figure it out? mighty.lettering@gmail.com Cheers!
Sir i already sent you thru email my screenshots regarding the clipping mask problem, ty you accommodating our concerns..
15:40 Shift + Delete wasn't working for me so I checked on Google and the fill menu shortcut in my computer is Shift + F5. Thanks for the video :))
Thank you sooo much!
Thank you so much. You saved my life.
It´s amazing all this beautiful work. You made this seem so easy but its actually a very precise and patient work. Admirable ! will try it out definetly
WOW! You might have the best tutorials ever man! Thank you so much for all your hard work & willingness to share!
"The pattern file is bad or corrupted."
Wouldn't it be easier and quicker to actually cut out paper letters, take a photo of it and then maybe put in photoshop?
I think it's a great idea to do it the real tangible way but I don't know if it's quicker. Between outlining the letter shapes on the paper, cutting all the letters, shooting, photoshop post production.. it can be a bit time consuming, but really fun :) It's worth giving it a shot to see how long it takes and I kinda want to try it now :P
Definetly not! And the result wouldn't be so clean.
ain't nobody got time for that! and cleaner lines. lol
No easier, but certainly more hipster. Which is good, or bad depending on your attitude to hipsters.
Omg wow. I love how you explain each step so well! Subscribed :")
I am SO gonna use this effect! Thank youuu xx
Thank you for your feedback and sub! Cheers! :)
You're a bloody genius, I've seen just this one video (yet) but you just made a new subscriber.
Thanks mate!
Thank you for the comment and the sub! It's super appreciated man :D Cheers!
I got lost on min 12:08 . Is there another way to do that part?
Hi Anastasia, another way to do it select the top layer > right click on it > Select "Create Clipping Mask". I hope this helps. Cheers!
thank you so much!
I love your vids!
Anytime! Thanks for your comment!
that is also my problem, when i tried to right click the upper layer, the clipping mask is not highlighted.. pls help me sir mighty..
i got lost at the same part. so happy someone asked and you responded!
i tried following but i got lost on the way
Yeah it can get a bit confusing :/ Let me know if you need help with a specific part, cheers!
This is a really great tutorial! Not too fast nor slow. And you take the time to show what you're doing! Thank you!
Thank you for the feedback it's super appreciated! :) Cheers!
I love your tutorials so much. I just started learning photoshop and this is really helping a lot(though I extended a process into 1hour LOL)
im at around 15:43 and i cant seem to bring up the fill menu. I pressed the shift + delete but it says "could not complete the cut command because the selected area is empty." what do i do?
Make sure you use the fill on the new layer you created and not on the "Lettering" one which is a smart object. Also if the Shift + delete shortcut doesn't work try going to Edit (in the top menu) and select "Fill". Let me know if this works for you. Cheers!
it worked!! Thank you so much. I'm really glad I found your channel. It's really helpful and easy to follow.
Thank you for the feedback! I'm really glad you like the videos :) Cheers!
Made by Mighty loved it!! thank you for this amazing tutorial
Anytime man :) Thank you for your comment!
very nice! but I'm a lazy cheat and do this in 3d with lights ;)
Yeah 3D is definitely another good way to go about it. But to be honest I'm not sure how I would achieve the "curved edges" effect in the paper cutout using the Photoshop 3D features or even C4D. Then again I'm not the biggest 3D guy out there so if you do know how to replicate this with 3D definitely share it man I would love to know. Cheers!
you are right, it requires true modeling and/or some intricate mapping
Yeah this goes way beyond my skill level when it comes to 3D haha!
#Thuglife ......lol
urbanrunoff show me how this was to hard to long
This is amazing so detailed and neat i looove it. The outcome is amazing too, thank you for this tutorial!!
Thank you very much. It was such a pleasure go along with it! I'm lookin forward to your videos
Helpful tips, thanks for sharing ^_^.
It'll be much better if the bg music was toned down a bit so I can hear your voice much clearer.
I'll keep that in mind for future videos, thanks for your input man. Cheers!
Loudness & Clarity - Joakim.
How appropriate :P
why does the down and left arrow doesn't work on mine?
You need to be in the Move Tool! :) (black arrow)
You're the best Teresa!
@@Teresa-tx7uw Yes ! Double thank you very much ☺🙏
I had to blink so many times at the end as it transformed from digital to paper-cut out. That is impressive!
Awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed it :) Thanks for dropping a comment!
A lot of work into something so simple. People should appreciate this more damn.
I'm too lazy for this. Can you make this a template?
Haha I hear you, I have an editable PSD for sale for $4 on the website. You can basically just type in whatever you want and the effect will automatically apply itself to the text. I hope this helps 😊
but can you help saving those $4 :P actually i am from india, i don't have international debit or credit card. i followed the tutorial and got the results.. but i am still confused how to make it a template.. please help
I can't give away the PSD file but if you send me an e-mail I try and explain how to make it a template. My e-mail is in the video description. Cheers!
Tooo lenghty process i just did it by using drop shadow and inner stroke 😆😆😂😂
This works. Recommended to try this out. Thanks a lot for your help
Thank you so much, love this tutorial! I'm going to use this for my type specimen school project!
It is not the effect that people love. Its the combi of colors. Love pink and ice blue.
102 people tried to use Paint instead of Photoshop...
Hahah I like your take on it :P Cheers!
Thank you! I can't wait to use this for more projects.
I love that you put the short cuts on the video, it helps so much! Great video, instant subscribe :D
Thank you for your feedback and thanks for the sub :) cheers!
This was incredibly helpful, and you were super easy to follow. Great work.
Great style and execution man, you taught me something new that I will use for sure! Thanks 🙏🏽
This is so cool! I haven't used Photoshop in ages, but I'm definitely subscribing for these kinds of videos. Thank you so much for taking the time to demonstrate how to do this! Hope you have a lovely week!
Thank you for the kind words! :) I'm glad these tutorials got you to fire up good ol' Photoshop again and I hope you use it as much as possible! Have an awesome week yourself!
IT LOOKS LIKE YOU JUST CUT PAPER AND PUT IT ON A PINK DESK OMG TALENT.
P.S. Definitely gonna use it maybe not now but later, I'll be sure to credit when I do :D
Thanks for sharing! Absolutely amazing to watch. You explained it so well. I will definitely try this out. I was always wondering how to do it in a perfect way. It looks super realistic. That's exactly the tutorial I was looking for!
Thank you so much for the great feedback! I'm glad you found the video helpful :) Cheers!
I loved your tutorial, im not really used to use lettering but this definetely got me into. I just made mine using your steps (i take a lot longer though) thanks a lot!!! Definetely sharing and subscribing :D
okay, so this tutorial just made my nonsense initials much better :P thanks for this!!
This is so so good. So satisfying. Made an action script out of it for when I have to speed work.
Amazing....I'm a self learning graphic designer and I've been learning for like a couple of month now and I came across this video of your's seriously it looks so decent and pretty, sure I'll give it a try...
i really love your way of explain, and the fact you put on the screen the short cut. I love it and definitely, i am subscribing!
I'm glad you like it. Thank you for subscribing! Cheers!
This is so amazing I can't even put it into words. Just stumbled across your channel and you've got yourself a new subscriber! Cheers!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! :) Cheers!
that last layer changed the whole perspective..awesome man
Hahah yeah that last step really makes the whole thing pop :P Cheers man!
Used it for tiled graphics for social media promotion. Tweaked it a bit though: Turned off the main layer and the shadow and left the lighting group on. Resulted in a carved text on the textured background. Thanks a lot!
Thank you for this tutorial and for sharing your knowledge with us!!
This tutorial was so easy and clear to follow :) thank you very much!
New sub. Absolutely will recommend this video to a friend working with Photoshop. I did work with Photoshop before, but I'm not practicing enough. Great video!
Thank you! :) I'm glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the recommendation! :P Cheers!
I'm a novice and have been trying to fiddle around with photo shop to challenge my skill set.
Can I just say, I was following along, but my finished product came out a little differently because my application had different presets on the shadows. Thusly, when I layered a few (many) times the final product slightly resembles an antiquated barbie commercial with very harsh white shadows (this is also contributed by me not using a robust enough font) haha! It looks really silly and I honestly wish I could share it with you all because it truly is something of a remarkable failure hahaha.
I'll need to start over, but I just thought I should share my journey while attempting to follow along.
Thank you for making this video, I appreciate the guidance. It was fun!
Hahah thank you for sharing this 😊 To be fair, it's not the simplest tutorial to follow I tried to be as concise as possible but there are so many values to put in, I get why it might be a bit overwhelming. Keep at it, if you need help with specific parts let me know, I'll be glad to help. Cheers!
when you choose to apply these angles of bevel / opacity do they relate with light direction the blue background paper is appearing?
So glad this came up on my recommended, such a great tutorial definitely going to try this out!
Thank you! I can't wait to see how it turns out! :)
firstly I would like to wish you well and to say a huge thank you for uploading these videos as they have been an invaluable resource to
One of my fave styles or effect I've been looking for! Thanks for this!
Thanks man! I'm glad you're digging the style :P Cheers!
I liked it so much! Can't wait to try it myself. I can imagine how challenging it might be but, man, this looks so great and awesome!
Thank you! I'd like to see what you do with it. Feel free to tag me on IG with your work, cheers! :)
Fantastic video dude! Thanks a bunch!!
We created typography like this in design school -- by actually cutting it out of paper. If you choose a simple font like this one, it's easy to do and you can photograph it at any angle, change the lighting, background, etc. :)
Can't wait to try this. Thanks!
If you try it, feel free to share it on Instagram, I'd love to see the result :D Cheers!
Awesome tutorial! Thanks for the pattern link.
My pleasure :) thank your for the comment!
Wooow man! i'm totally Speechless ! i don't know even what to do, that was fantastic your voice and the music from background is jut to Zen for me
Thanks for the feedback! 😊 It's really appreciated, cheers!
wow.... I did it! It works perfectly and the result is super adorable. This tutorial is so powerful! You are the MIGHTY of photoshop text effects!! Thank you! I have problems finding other color combinations on my own, though
Awesome! Make sure to tag me if you share your work on Instagram :) For color combinations you can check out sites like coolors.co/ for inspiration. Cheers!
Great work! Thanks for the video
Awesome tutorials man! I only use photoshop, so I'm looking forward to more of these tutorials you put out!
Thank you! 😊 The next video is going to be a Photoshop tutorial! Cheers!
Thanks for the tutorial also for a new nice pattern. Keep up the good work !
Can't wait to try it!
Really helpful! Keep up your awesome work!
this process and technique is definitely cooler than thought it would be. I'm definitely gonna use it, maybe with my textures.👌
Thank you for the feedback! :) I'd love to see the way it turns out with the textures!
The process is rigorous but the result is amazing! I hope I can learn this someday :)
really enjoyed doing this one. thanks so much!
Good video thank you , updated visual studio and everything worked. I'm really glad I found a working crack
