Not backing sheldon up but the experiment can't take place with leonard knowing as the food would taste mothy even if there isn't one due to the placebo effect so results will not come. For results to be obtained, the test subject shouldn't know that an experiment is being conducted.

I think this scene is just brilliant comedy. Each character's particular foibles are on display and the actors are all superb at making them come to life. One of my favorite TBBT scenes.

Putting aside the lie Raj's gift to Sheldon was incredibly thoughtful. He knew Sheldon liked trains and knew he would like it. That's sweet.
