    Also to note that this cinematic is the culmination of a patch-long event. On the Dalamud quest-line, you and other adventurers (players) attempt to foil the White Raven's plan to crash Dalamud (the Red Moon) onto Eorzea....but you fail to stop him and you watch the Moon grow closer, helplessly. The last week before the 1.0 servers shut off was crazy: Zone musics were replaced by a haunting echoing version of Answers (this trailer's theme), Imperial soldiers littered the maps, Aetherytes were corrupted (teleport points), voidsents attacked cities and camps relentlessly (spawned by GMs). Some players participated in the battle you see in the trailer while others sat with friends, looking up at Dalamud, waiting for the server shutdown. When the servers died, this trailer was released.
    This event is known as the 7th Umbral Calamity and was something actual players went through. I'm pretty excited for the upcoming Calamity....considering that one wont include a server shutdown

  • @ChandaniAranka
    @ChandaniAranka Před 5 lety +49

    Basically the battlefield was like an ingame event where you the players fought against the enemies that kept on coming, then Bahamut breaks free from his prison and burns everything.
    The night the original game had its servers shut down, we fought against nonstop spawning high lvl monsters for about 3 hours, only that we still failed to save it.
    The cinematic started playing when the server was shut down, and people were quite choked up and even cried on voice chat.
    This moment in videogame history was the most epic on a long time and I’m glad I got to play the original version and is still playing FFXIV today and look forward to Shadowbringers expansion and the Gunblade job ;)

    I'd go so far as to say the cinematics are even more impressive because they were actually made in 2012, not 2015 :)
    The first half of the video played when the game shut down in November 2012, the second half (after the heroes are sent away and the Elven grandpa sacrifices himself in the final battle) was visible by clearing the hardest raid in the relaunched version that came out in 2013.
    Because it was so hard to beat, many players never got to see the second half, so in time for the first expansion launch in 2015, they finally uploaded the full version to CZcams so everyone could catch up in time to see the story continue, that's why the video says 2015 despite the cinematic being from 2012 :)

    The red moon Dalamud was actually a 6000 year old space station build by the Allaghan Empire to contain Bahamut. It was essentially used to be a prison while the primal soaked up the sun's aether and then the satellite beamed it down to the Crystal Tower. The energy received was so powerful it caused the 3rd Umbral Calamnity and utterly destroyed Allag.

I really wish I could know what this was like to be one of the players who actually stuck with the game for so long. To see the moon slowly descending on Eorzea, to take part in the game's last moments, to see THIS trailer, and then get ARR. The story of this game's failure and rebirth is so fascinating to me, but I didn't start playing until just before Stormblood released, so it's all secondhand to me.

  • @TheAngofwolf
    @TheAngofwolf Před 5 lety +3

    There's a lot of story here, some which can't be fully explained without explaining things that are still going on today. But to help explain a bit on backstory (if you care):
    The big ball coming down is dubbed Dalamud. Dalamud is, in 1.0, one of the two moons in the sky over the planet placed there by a previous civilization called the Allag that crumbled. The idea of Dalamud was they took the dragon there, Bahamut, and forced him into a ball, then sent him into space in order to use it to draw energy from the sun, and send it back to their civilization. When the civilization fell, the energy Bahamut was absorbing had no where to go so instead he absorbed it and grew in strength. That is until Dalamud was called back to the planet.
    Bahamut is a Primal. A Primal is a being that is brought into existence by the sincere prayers of people, they can be killed but can keep coming back as long as there are people to continue to pray and offer energy to do so. In the midst of this fight, they attempted to re-seal Bahamut, but with the energy he absorbed he was too strong. The old man's name is Louisoix and I sincerely believe died in that moment and, as an answer to the prayers of all people across in Eorzea, was reborn a primal capable of stopping Bahamut.
    There's more story in there in less prevalent ways. But I hope this helps some people understand a bit more of this video.

    It really makes more sense if you know the context of when this was first seen. When FF14 version1.0 was about to shut down it's servers, they did it with style! As gamers were finishing up the last of the game, a red dot appeared in the sky. Over weeks, it got larger. And when it came time for the servers to shut down, players gathered for an assault by the enemy armies under a red moon. Then the servers shutdown and the video was played for the first time. At least most of it. The original video ended where everyone teleported away. They would materialize in a new land, ready for a new adventure. The entire old man fight vs Bahamut wasn't a part of the original video.I thought that part was WTH??? But the first half...damn. While I was playing 1.0 until they shut down the servers and gave us the link to the video, It brought me to tears with how it played out, and I still get the chills and teary eyed everytime I watch it. The amount of time I put in and my attatchment to the character and NPC's was fantastic and brilliant in 1.0.

    I only played WoW before but it got so bad, i just needed something new.
    And oh my gosch FF14 is so amazing. Im not sure if i will ever go back to WoW now.
    And i dont know why this trailer, used for the 1.0 shut down is not like the biggest mmorpg moment ever talked about.

    So TLDR: That moon object was called Dalamud, which was keeping the Dragon Bahamut imprisoned. The Garleans wanted to drop Dalamud to wipe out Eorzea, but failed and thus Bahamut was released.

  • @WandersonMSilva

    The big dragon is Bahamut, one of the most dangerous primals known in this world. He was kept in a coccoon-like jail (Dalamud) but an imperial crazy bastard called him down to try to put and end the resistence (the good guys). It's when this cutscene happens (just to give some context) :P
    It's the initial story before the game begins (it's also the end of the story of the first version of this game). So, this battle was the end of a game and a start for the other (clever, don't you think? ^^ ).
    Try to play it! I believe you guys will enjoy! The first expansion is a little better in story than the initial part and considered the best part by a lot of players.

    i know this is a new comment to an old video, but every time I see that video, It brings a tear to my eye because Ive the raid in FFXIV that finished that story. So tragic, so sad, such tragic sacrifice that ended with the final destruction of the Balamut, Tiamat's mate, who is still to this day, trapped in Heavensward maps, still mourning her lover's death and rise to become a Primal and thereby trapped in Dalamund, that red moon that blew apart and almost ended life on Aorzea

    So basically, Not Gandalf got all his buddies to pray and give him their power, he cast Summon God but it didn't work, lucking he got some of the spell components refunded when the spell failed so he used that to cast Fuck You Dragon and blew a hole in it. Then he made it snow to put out the fire.

    The old guy is louisoix and he is the founder of the scions of the dawn (a group dedicated to stopping the primals creatures that beast tribes summon that mind control their followers) the others praying are the members of the scions. The really powerful fighters in the battle are the warriors of light (the players) the dragon is bahamut a the dread wyrm the elder primal. He was sealed in and made up the second eorzian moon dalamud. The blue spikes and the blue magic was actually the 12 eorzian god's being summoned to stop bahamut. In the end in desperation, the gods empower louisoix and use him to directly fight bahamut. Which he succeeded in doing but in the end the calamity changed so much that most of arr's storyline is about the world rebuilding. Loss of memories and fighting other primals. Eventually you join the scions and have to fight the garlean army(bad guys in the trailer) oh and you find out muscular Dante is actually Cid garlond (an airship builder who defected from garland).

  • @benediktcz
    @benediktcz Před 4 lety

    i know the reaction 1.5 yr old but what happened is pretty much - what everyone thought was a moon was actually an artificially created prison for bahamut (the dragon, elder primal). the space bad guys (the ones with "robots" and dark armor) actually tried to pull "the moon" closer and crash it into the planet, which did cracked the prison and bahamut was released. circle of knowledge (the praying people) and their leader louisoix (elvish gandalf) tried to use power of twelve (gods of that world) (the light runes) to recreate the prison, bat bahamut did break out before it was finished.
    at the end (which is actually separtate video) louisoix kind of defeats bahamut.

    So that sphere that exploded was the star Dalamud. It was created by an advanced ancient race of people called the Allagans to imprison the Dragon God Bahamut and use his energy as a fuel source. In this video, the Garlean broke the seal during their attack on the Eorzean alliance causing him to be released. The old elven guy then summoned the power of the twelve gods to defeat the dragon.

    Basically XV originally bombed hard. So 2.0/a Realm Reborn explained that the original world was more or les annihilated, and thus your character was transported like 1,000 years into the future with a new world and the story went on from there. Each update includes a new story arc, new job classes and powers, etc.
    This will be the Shadow Bringer Arc.
