  • From the first week of ownership, the 2022 tundra has let me down. It needs some tweaks and changes to make it what was promised. This is truly the end for my tundra.

My 2022 tundra I bought in March was a pain in the arse compared to my 23 tundra I purchased in October. Big improvement in quality, but still some teething issues with my 23, such as my rear sliding window vibrating when rolling down and exterior window trim pieces on the back glass peeling. But compared to my 22 that had the connectivity issues with apple car play and screen resetting etc… none of that.
I agree with you that Toyota can and should improve the tundra and all their vehicles for that matter. I watched a video of Mike Sweers talking about a change in plastic standard that they made regarding unseen plastics that they would typically not install in vehicle’s due to blemishes or being out of spec but due to Covid and parts shortage they lowered the standard to use these parts because they were out of sight and still useable. I think that thinking and process has definitely impacted the quality. Anyways enjoy your 4Runner. I had a 2020 and that also had some teething issues and I tried ford and chevy in between my last two tundras and I’m back in a tundra so that should tell you something. I would take the minor issues I’ve had cosmetically over serious mechanical and electrical issues I had with the Chevy and ford.

@@vinhdoan3629 unfortunately they haven’t been able to fix. They have attempted it twice and after the second attempt when they replaced the actuator. It helped and sometimes when the weather is warmer there is no issues but when it’s colder or wet it vibrates. I haven’t brought it up yet because I dont want to waste another two days with them to examine it again and then ordering parts and bring it back.

@@stanpersful4723 yeah that sucks I’ve been there before. My 22 f150 had the whole 12 inch screen replaced due to blacking out. Battery replaced due to leak developing. Rear diff developing a nasty leak. Driver side a pillar not being flush with windshield, you could see the nuts and bolts behind the a pillar. Weird stuff with the windows not wanting to roll down but I figured that out from a google search. It’s too bad because ford makes a good looking truck that is very comfortable. But the ten speed transmission in that truck annoyed me the way it slammed around and hunted for gears.

  • @SeanPasell

Interesting. I bought a 22 Pro and took delivery of it in September of 22. I’ve taken it to SC to watch my son graduate from USMC Paris Island, round trip from RI was 1800 miles.
Drove back down to NC Camp LeJune for ceremony gradation from SOI. 1500 miles round trip.
I drive all over New England for work and thank God I haven’t had any issues related to the engine at all.
The one issue I have had was a leak in the moon roof. I noticed a musty smell in the cabin and found the rugs under the driver seat were wet. Not soaked but wet.
The smell got more intense. I took to dealer and they found that the drain tubes that are located in the roof, which actually drain down the side of the door panels and out below the truck, had come apart and leaked.
They replaced all the carpeting and did a full test for mold etc. they also replaced my shaky headliner as well.
That solved the issue. No issues since.
I did fall victim to the cracked seat issue and they replaced that recently. And finally I had to pay for two new tires of the 4 (Toyota paid for 2) at 28k miles due to the uneven wear.
Now we have the recall and Toyota will pay for the other two.
I ended up buying an extended warranty recently before my Pro hits 36k. Cost me $2k for additional 100k miles Platinum warranty just because I know if something does happen it’s gonna cost me double or triple that if out of warranty.
Noise wise I do agree with this reviewer. Occasionally I’ll hear things but they seem to go away and are mostly rattles related to that cheap plastic stuff he’s talking about.
But man does this truck move. Wow.
Only thing there is that if I’m driving 60-65MPH and need to accelerate quickly there’s a slight hesitation and then it kicks and goes.
Lastly when I did replace my tires with Falken WildPeaks my MPG dropped from 18.9 on average to 16.3 right now. I learned that even though I replaced them with the “same” tire it’s not exactly the same. The ones I received are heavier with a deeper tread and I believe that the OEM tires are designed for better fuel economy and ONLY available when you first purchase the vehicle.

And expect to get a lot more. The new trucks are definitely not build like the old ones they are definitely fragile and will most likely age very poorly from a mechanical standpoint and an interior standpoint. Everything post covid is a pile of crap and it’s almost every single model they have now with the exception of the 4Runner and they still haven’t fixed the limited 4Runner suspension problem they will always leak and cost about $5k to fix

I think people keep pointing to design flaws, and for most of the truck id disagree. What I see are mainly QC issues. The V35A engines that come from japan for lexus didnt have these problems. The Lexus 10 Speed from japan also never had these problems. Hell, even the G16E GTS from japan doesnt have these problems and id say that engine is under way more stress. This is a problem with Toyota's US Manufacturing plant for the Tundra, its clearly been a long time since they have had to transition to a new vehicle, and im willing to bet its the first time for many employees there. Same problem i think will happen with the Tacoma. The only things i think are not QC issues is the seat panel and radio, clear design flaws that need updated parts/software update.
Eventually, i do think this truck will be reliable, once QC issues are resolved.

I am glad that they purchased it and refunded you. I am always weary of the first 2 year models of any new generation of vehicles. I had a 2019 tundra that got totaled at 8k miles, so my next choice was a 2020 tundra trd pro. I couldn't be happier... I wasn't tempted to upgrade to the latest generation, not even the slightest. I am hoping that they will consider bringing back the V8 as an option, and improve the quality control all across the board. It is disappointing to see how the standards have gone down, and I hope it is not due to DEI, like everything else seems to be going down to the gutters in this country.

I wouldn’t trust anything after 2020. The quality parts and assembly went to crap along with way too many changes. As a 2022 Nissan Frontier owner, and who owned a 17 and 18 Titan and titan XD and two older frontiers (better) but now owns a 2012 Pro4x Titan. Don’t expect miracles from your Frontier, I’m trading ours in this weekend due to undiagnosed intermittent transmission issues that the recalls and software updates didn’t fix. It’s always been finicky from day one with random bangs and jerks and hunting but what showed up at the 30k mile Mark was intermittent torque converter lockup at idle in gear that stalls the engine out or lunges you forward. So my wife won’t drive it and I’m over it. Hopefully ours is just a one off, there is a class action lawsuit against Nissan for the 20 and 21 models years for similar though

Man. Toyota better get it together. They are having way too many issues, build quality is down, cheaper materials, reliability is way down. They should have continued to offer the 5.7. The 5.7 matched with tue 10 speed would get decent fuel economy and have good acceleration. It did well with the 6 speed so I think it would do better with the 10 speed. I remember when Toyota products had zero door panel flex when you closed the doors. I can't believe how bad this truck is considering how long it took to actually bring it to the market. The previous tundra lasted from 2007-2021 with just a minor refresh. You'd think with all of the time it took to bring this to the market it would be class leading at something,. Its sad that Toyota cut so many corners when it comes to quality and materials. They literally need to go back to the drawing board with this truck and use netter materials and simplify the powertrain.

Thanks for the information! I have owned 3 Toyota Camry and currently have a Rav4 with no issues. I also have a 2017 Ram 2500 CTD that I am considering trading off for a new truck. I have been looking hard at the Toyota Tundra and have seen way too many issues with this new generation truck to take a chance and spend $70,000 to buy a problem child. The direction technology is going with the new generation trucks, I think I'll sit on the side lines and watch for a few more years. My Ram has been trouble free. I just thought I might give a Tundra a try but my better judgement has kicked in and I'll pass. If I was Toyota I would think twice about engineering and building any more pickup trucks in the U.S.A. based on how this Tundra has turned out so far.

I bought a 2024 SR Base 2WD in Dec. Had to order it from the factory. I was always a chevy guy. I bought the Tundra because I needed a truck and thought it would have "less" problems than GM and Fords I keep reading about. It now has 14k miles. Been using it as a work truck and pulling trailers, etc. It is an awesome driving and towing truck. I have made multiple 200 mile trips with a loaded trailer and its a dream to drive. I can't even feel the transmission shifting. And it's the detuned 348HP too. The 5 point rear suspension is rock solid. I've heard about all of the horror stories about the Tundras and your video seems the most honest. I don't doubt any of your issues and I'm sure it sucks. So far I haven't had any major issues with wind noise or anything. I've noticed a few minor things like if you only put a couple of gallons of gas in it, the fuel gauge doesn't show it for a while and doesn't change the mileage range. And I did notice a little flexing on the door handle if its windy. No problems with the infotainment or connecting of the phone. So far I would say I'm happy with it. Knock on wood. I bought the 80k warranty anyway. Time will tell.....

I fully believe if Toyota switched out their oil recommendation to a 0w-30 or 5W-30 all these issues would go away. 0w-20 is simply too thin for the heat created by a twin turbo engine in an almost 6,000 lb truck. Ford had issues with the coyote in gen 1&2 with the 5W-20 getting too thin and spinning bearings. 21 model year they went to 5W-30 and no more spun bearings.

With reliability, I can absorb the cost of fuel.
