@@HorsesOnYT I wouldn’t mind an essay on Druidism to be honest! I love these videos!

Quick tip when pronouncing anything Welsh, a double d, so DD actually makes a sort of “dth” sound. So “Myrddin” or “Gododdin” should sound like “Myrdthin” and “Gododthin”. For anyone who’s played Elden Ring, this is why characters pronounce Blaidd the Half-wolf’s name like “Blaidth”.
I was annoyed at first, but this is a good comment.
Great comment! My favorite books growing up were the Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander, which are retelling of Welsh mythologies. It's a real shame that English rule of the British isles has resulted in the decimation of the other cultures that inhabit it
@@jackievanhelen True. I'm 34 and only now getting to really learn Welsh as, as recently as the 1990s, my mother was spat on for speaking it in public.
Edit: You might really enjoy Sharon Penman's Here Be Dragons trilogy (historical semi-fiction), and Stephen Lawhead's Pendragon Cycle (King Arthur retold)
Hey! As someone who only knew Welsh was a thing when my last boss got offended when I called him English or British.. I can say.. Interesting but also, who cares?
im welsh and was gonna comment this 🔥 beat me to it
this dude selling a sword is proof he's the best essayist.
It's already sold out
I was about to be like “that don’t make no sense,” but then I realized that he has achieved the ultimate goal of every essayist, regardless of subject. Becoming a sword seller.
@@agoogolofgeeseah the classic pen and sword proverb, but in a different way?
Bro just casually drops that there’s a sword in his merchshop… I love this channel so much.
Do they ship to london?
Your essay writing skills are something most students and moreover people are no doubt beyond envious of. Fantastic work as always Horses
Horses is one of the only channels that deserve that you run to watch when he uploads a new video
YES!! I RAN!!
Gallop, even
Word. I like Wendigoon as well and try to watch his content alot
most definitely
I been waiting all week🤣
I live in a town called Marlborough in Wiltshire, England and the local folklore here is that Marlborough translates to Merlin's Town and that his final resting place is here in town in the form of a large man-made iron age mound ! Very cool to think about tho I'm sure there's very little basis
would be really neat to see that excavated properly!
@@okeusI hope it to be untouched to be honest with you
@@HollowR6Sthe futures wild, soon we’ll be able to image things underground without unearthing them
So the real Marlborough Man is a wizard and not a cowboy?
@@HollowR6S well it's not open to the public but I've been to the top and unfortunately the centre of it has been filled with concrete for some reason, not sure how deep. It may be due to a risk of collapse or drainage idk.
YES, MOM, I need to watch a 48+ minute video to know if Merlin was real, DUH
I’m very sick I have a flu that’s killing me however this video nursed me to health and I now bench 350 on an off day and I’ve been inducted into Mensa I got a full ride scholarship to MIT
I AM SO INTO the choice of aspect ratio here of 4:3 with the large Celtic lettering title cards. So pretty
"Are you sitting comfortably?"...A fleet of golden galleons, on a crystal sea. Are you sitting comfortably? Let Merlin cast his spell. Ride along the winds of time and see where we have been, The glorious age of Camelot, when Guinevere was Queen. It all unfolds before your eyes, As Merlin cast his spell. The seven wonders of the world he'll lay before your feet, In a far-off lands, on distant shores, so many friends to meet. Are you sitting comfortably? Let Merlin cast his spell... From the song "Are you sitting comfortably", written by Ray Thomas and recorded by the Moody Blues off their fourth album 'On the Threshold of a Dream', recorded in April of 1969. This was the Moody Blues first Number One Album in the United Kingdom. 🧙(This was a great video, and a great video needs a great narrator, and your voice more than meets that standard.🙏)
My name is Emrys, and my mother named me after Merlin. ❤
As a Welsh person i especially enjoyed this one lol, having volunteered on Enlli not knowing it was supposedly his final resting place, that was a cool thing to learn lol. I also really liked the visuals in this one, I appreciate you not using AI anymore.
Celtic lore is a topic so vast that the term "Celtic cultures" is close to being uselessly vague. Whenever somebody says that, I ask, "which one? Irish, Welsh, Manx, Scottish, Cornish, Gaulish?" Each one shared certain similarities, but most practices are distinct. Well done distilling the fundamental concepts from Welsh folklore! Another impressive essay 😊
God, you have everything down to an exact science on how to properly weave a story with stark visuals. Very nice work.
“A dream to some…a nightmare to others!”
Since my childhood I can’t read any Merlin portrayal and not think of Nicol Williamson, such an iconic role. Thanks for the flashbacks ❤
God, I _love_ that quote. One of the best iterations of Merlin in modern media.
_"Excalibur belongs only to ME!!!"_
This is genuinely one of the best channels on CZcams. You are so well researched and your calm yet deliberate delivery as well the eye catching visuals and editing make every video a fascinating dive into a decidedly niche topic
Your essays are prefect
The tone and pacing - both written and spoken - are ideal. The way they flow with the images is flawless
I can't imagine a more thoroughly crafted work
My favorite essay so far. I've read most of your source material. I loved Tolstoy's books. Merlin is part Celtic god, part druid and part bard. Half real and half magic. Love that Tolkien took inspiration. Is possible to do Weyland Smith ?
Hey man. I told you when had 100 subscribers that it would take off. I hope you're proud of where this went. We had faith in you, keep it up.
I couldn't be more happy about this video. Just recently I started reading "Le Morte d'Arthur", so I'm thrilled to say the least
Your channel deserves so so so much more attention; I’m always being left so incredibly in awe after each and every video💜
I like the pictures you've used, there must be loads of old art we can celebrate
Glad I have a new channel to subscribe to and binge. Your work is immaculate.
this channel never ceases to amaze me...i can tell ppl are catching on..thank you for everything
Love the effort you put in your craft brother. Keep going 💪 ✨️
Love your vids homie, your choice in typography is fire
Yo horses, I doubt you’ll see this. But I really think you should make Joan of arc video. Would love for you to give your own breakdown video on her history
I love your work. Thank you so much for these works of art. ❤
I love this video and all of your videos so much, nobody out there is making such amazing videos visually or intellectually.
Love this 4:3 format and the old school vibe. Subscribed.
I've been needing this video for decades. Thank you.
Just found your channel today, and this is my 2nd video watched. I must say that so far I'm impressed. You've gained a new subscriber.

Fantastic work, as per usual. Thank you, Horses!!!
Recently got into Arthurian Legend and mythology. Can’t wait to see what new things I’ll learn now your video.
✨
Always watching Horses videos before bed. So good. When i watch his videos my mind and soul are at peace.
I was just talking to my brother about Merlin as he appears in my favorite book series by C.S. Lewis, the Space Trilogy, in the final book, That Hideous Strength. And this pops up, so thank you device that listens. Gonna have to start video over now, was typing and not listening. My bad. Peace!
Favourite subject, favourite CZcamsr. The stars do align now and again.
Holy shit you've blown up I remember first watching your northman video years ago, congrats man you deserve it all
Bro I am bored of other video essays compared to the absolute curious questions you ask in yours. Thank you.🙏
What a beautiful channel. Thank you for the research.
How do you not have more views? It’s so well done.
My god when I seen the notification for a new drop It made my heart flutter.❤ these videos come in so fucking clutch man, please don’t ever stop, keep
Up the great work 🎉 happy new year as well.
I love you dude, been on my ftl shit for the last few weeks, but this was a perfect pallet cleanser.
Yes! Happy New Year and thanks, Horses.
Tip: Always check the pronunciation of words not English in origin, most Wikipedia articles spell out the title in the international phonetic alphabet in the very first sentence...
Thank you for not overpricing your merch, Might be the first pair of youtuber merch I pick up.

Another incredible work from Horses ❤
You are such an amazing storyteller from the tome of your voice and how you pace the way you tell your tale
Even though I may not be interested at the subject matter,I get enraptured into the video anyways because of how you present it
HORSES is 10/10!! Visual, script, narration... oh what a delight!!!
Lol just when I was thinking "Man Horses hasn't uploaded in a minute...".
Looking forward to this one !
Wooo, dropping an another 50 min video, You made my day
I realize there's not much chance you'll be able to redo your entire voiceover, but I just started watching this and wanted to give a heads-up that the DD in Welsh is pronounced "TH" and not as a "D" and likewise "dw" is "Doo." Enjoy your content very much regardless!
i thought those words seemed too easy to pronounce... thanks for the correction!
@@HorsesOnYT I'm being really petty now but "y" in Welsh is usually pronounced as "uh". So "Myrddin" would be "Muhrthin"!
English is a horrible lanugage, innit?
It is! But Welsh, which is one of the Celtic languages, is horrible in that uniquely Celtic way.
@@dorkbaitart I think the big issue here is that too many languages use the same alphabet, so words from completely different languages are taken as is without much adaptation of spelling. The result is the lack of consistent rules.
There's a whole competition over spelling words.
Always a good day when horses uploads
Whomever it is at the core of the Myth, the real person beyond the long history of telephone.

AND it's about MERLIN, Bless your heart, Michael. Loving this beautiful content You make, Wonderful Wonderful ART❣️ THANK YOU ❣️
The visual edit is out of this world
Thank you for this lovely video. I love stuff about Merlin, and wizards.
Great essay! I enjoyed it immensely. Feels like it was a lot of work to put together.
Slight moment of dissonance at about 7.20 when you introduce Geoffrey of Monmouth's 'History of the Kings of Britain' and you tell us that it was the 'History of the Kings of England'. It feels like a tiny bit of a slip, because you revert back to Britain past this!
I know that outside these islands, people get Britain and England mixed up as being synonymous when they are not, but I don't mind the occasional brain fart ;-) especially when everything else is so high quality.
Im surprised you skipped right over the 1st mention of Taliesan in the early source with the 2 Myrdons. Taliesan also became one of his names.
work is always phenomenal
Brilliant as always. Would love to see one on the origins of tales about giants.
Horse will be a cornerstone of youtube mini docs
I think we can all agree the best version of all time was in The Sword in the Stone by Disney lol But for real though that was one of my favorite movies growing up. I still love it. I didn’t realize it was it was made in 1963 until I just looked it up. The animation they were able to do back then never ceases to amaze me.
Very good video as always! I had never heard this kind of deep dive on this character before. I love the way you cover these topics. No matter what it is I always learn something new while watching you. Great work! 💜
Your channel will fill the giant Hochelaga shaped hole in my life
the visuals in this channel are fantastic, grainy, low contrast and tasteful
Your a Masterclass story teller🙌🏽
This is incredible work A+
I can’t wait for this channel to announce their retirement just so I can post an online tribute with the song “Goodbye Horses”
You mean wild horses? Lmfao
@@DreadPirateRobertz no I don’t. I mean Goodbye Horses by Q Lazarus. It’s the song that plays in Silence of the Lambs. In the scene where Bill dances in front of the mirror in his skin suit.
@@Glassandcandyhe says “all things… pass into the night…” and I said “oh no sir, I must say you’re wrong, I MUST DISAGREE!”
Love all the Caldwell, Easley and Parkinson paintings. Very fitting that a documentary about the Father of all Modern Wizards contain countless visuals from the tabletop RPG that allowed so many of us to embody the trope that a singular mythical figure managed to capture and beguile the hearts and minds of people for centuries to come. Awesome, 👏🏽
What are these artists full names? I'm interested in looking these up
Clyde Caldwell, Jeff Easley and Keith Parkinson@@austinleavitt9674
I rewatched Clive Owen's King Arthur yesterday!
The choice of typefaces was excellent.
Yet another fantastic video. This channel is one of my favourite things on the internet.
How dare you post a video when I have work to do and can't listen right now? It's cruel, I tell you!

Amazing video! What is the footage in this video from? All of these films look wild.
I love your videos brah

Interesting aspect ratio. Why did you make the video this way? Simply curious
Babe wake up, a new horses video just dropped
Finally a new video💯

I found this channel about a year ago. didn't check on it for the last few month and suddenly he is selling a sword in his merch store?! Can you make a 2 hour video essay on how that came to be?
4:3 is such an underrated aspect ratio honestly
