    220lbs of Dynamic Cinematic Carnage AND Audiophile Bliss? | Arendal 1723 Review
    *Description:*
    Well, hello there. I've been a little sick, and I hope I can get through this without hacking up a lung. Bear with me. Thank you.
    Today on New Record Day, I'm excited to dive into the Arendal 1723 Tower Speakers, priced at $3899 for the pair. These are a competent, well-made loudspeaker that offers deep, powerful bass and top-end extension. While they can be a little forward at times, this can be tamed with speaker positioning and tubes.
    Arendal may not be exclusively a home theater company, but many folks eyeing these speakers are probably both 2-channel enthusiasts and multichannel dabblers. Think along the lines of SVS and Klipsch. For today's review, I'm focusing on the audiophile music experience with the 1723 Towers.
    Let's get into the details:
    - **Specifications**: The 1723s are large, standing 45 inches tall, 11 inches wide, and 16 inches deep, weighing 111 pounds each. They feature a two-and-a-half-way design with port plugs, black and white finish options, slanted cabinets, and magnetic grills.
    - **Drivers and Build Quality**: A soft dome tweeter, four treated paper cone woofers, and a robust design. They have excellent build quality, despite being made in China.
    - **Listening Impressions**: The sound can be a bit forward, but using tubes like the Gallion TS120 in class A mode can balance this. The treble is precise, though slightly lacking in air and ambience. The midrange is clean and detailed, especially in female vocals. The bass is deep and tight, with the option to use port plugs for customization.
    - **Soundstage**: Impressive imaging and a massive soundstage, great for both home theater and 2-channel listening.
    Join me for an in-depth review, sound clips, and measurements to see if these speakers are the right fit for you. Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share your thoughts in the comments!

    I recently purchased a pair of 1723 towers, I absolutely love them. I’m 99% 2 channel. I’m driving them with a McIntosh MC312 (300WPC). You are spot on with the forward upper midrange but was easily able to tame with the McIntosh EQ. I actually loved them so much I bought a pair of the Arendal 1961 towers for another system , thanks for the review!!😊

      How do the two compare? And what's powering the other ones? Can you give EQ details? (Not just to tame the highs to your preference, but any/all adjustments made).

      @@Artcore103 I’m driving the 1961 towers with a 40+ year old G7500 Sansui Receiver (90WPC) sounds awesome I also add an SVS 3000 micro sub that’s tuned down to 30Hz @-20dB. Great pairing! For the 1723 towers I’m using a McIntosh EQ I’ve tuned down the 3KHz and the 1KHz from 12 o’clock to about 10 o’clock. No gain numbers on the EQ. I hope this helps!😎

    Excellent job once again. The sound clips being short are the way to go. Having owned speakers with the tweeter in a 8" waveguide, I can say that it brings a forward nature to the sound. That I think is what you are hearing. Perhaps the on axis high freq. gain was designed in as most people setting these up for home theatre would just point the speakers straight forward for ascetics and where the highs flatten out. Thanks you.

    Thanks, Ron. Your observations are highly valuable as the youtube reviewers that have previously "reviewed" them are by far HT first enthusiasts. At their price point, I would consider Mofi source point 10 and Kef R5 as better two channel enthusiast speakers. The dynamic SPL level of the 1723 are phenomenal, but they fall short in depth, airy detail presentation of the 10s and R5. They remind me of Perlisten S7T, in that they are excellent speakers for HT, very good for two channel music, but the competition at their respective price point is quite formidable.

    Because of the size of my room, I purchased the 1723 s tower speakers. I am using them in a stereo configuration. Source is a VPI/SME/Ortofon 2M Black, VTL 2.5, McCormack DNA-0.5 Deluxe Edition and an assortment of Audioquest cables. I've cared about reproduced sound since the 1970s. I am extremely happy with these speakers and I would imagine if they were manufactured in Europe, and covered with a fancy veneer, people would be happily spending 10 to $12,000 a pair for them. I was particularly attracted to this company's in-home audition policy. Giving the consumer plenty of time to decide whether or not these speakers are right for them. They are definitely right for me and I don't anticipate buying new ones anytime soon.

  • @ccdccd8615
    @ccdccd8615 Před 2 měsíci +1

    I feel like we are seeing a relatively new segment in “audiophile” 2 channel emerging: really good towers that are part of HT system. I see SVS as leading the charge in this direction, but there are others like Arendal as well. And I get it. I have a Sonos HT system. Am I listening to 2 channel on this system? No. Do I wish I had a system where the front 2 channels were good enough for me to want to listen to them without doing more than pressing some buttons on my remote? Yes. Do I expect the last word in sound quality from a system like this? No, but it doesn’t have to be the last word. It just has to be good enough for me to not go running down the audiophile rabbit hole.
    Kind see this as another variation on the other trend we have seen in 2 channel: the all in one speaker where you just connect the speaker to an Ethernet cable, plug the speakers into the wall and you are done, no mixing and matching of equipment. Some audiophiles live for the mixing and matching, others just want to enjoy the music with a minimum of fuss.
    Over time, I see both of these trends taking over the “audiophile” sub $10,000 speaker market.

  • @Artcore103
    @Artcore103 Před 2 měsíci +3

    If the top end of a speaker is elevated, the fix isn't changing out the front end gear, it's very easy, it's a little thing called EQ. You're welcome.

    Great, that sounds like what I remember, and now I know it is not just me, cause Arendal themselves would not admit it was a bit bright when I told them. I was told that maybe I have sensitive ears. hehe
    Well, when that is said they were bright in a good way and not in a fatiguing klipsch way.
    By the way. I have recently become aware of Lyngdorf room correction called room perfect, also used by Mcintosh. Now this is apparently not the same as dirac and other room correction products on AVR's. And I got to listen to a briefley calibrated setup without knowing the room very well, but I must say it sounded impressive. And I have tried dirac and Audassy, so I can confirm that Room Perfect did sound a lot better then and there. This is room correction for stereo, so I would find it very interestion to hear how it works in your room??
    Like I said, this is not like dirac, and it does not adjust frequencies. However, I have yet to fully understand what it does a 100% as there are many vague explanations online, and many seem to think it is just another dirac type of product. No, this might be the holy grail for people who need room acoustics but cant. It was soo good that I considered getting one and only using those features on top of my equiptment as I do have some low end problems still in my room.

    • @Artcore103
      @Artcore103 Před 2 měsíci

      Room perfect absolutely does "adjust frequencies". It could have no effect if it didn't, that's what room correction is. It's just a different algorithm and measurement system. It may be superior, I don't know, but it works in fundamentally the same way... EQ.

    • @Rockit66
      @Rockit66 Před 2 měsíci

      @@Artcore103 that sounds strange, but then it will eventually not be good case this frequenzy adjustments does not fix reflection issues, but I could have sworn I read something about that this is not what room perfect does, and there was something about flipping phase, not just for subs. I might have missunderstood completely, but then I am back to zero

    • @Artcore103
      @Artcore103 Před 2 měsíci

      @@Rockit66 it may play with delaying certain frequency ranges for phase reasons too, that's a thing that can be done with DSP, but it absolutely changes frequency response via EQ, which is not inherently problematic for phase, which is not the primary issue room correction seeks to adjust.

Yes there are some good two way speakers and I own some they are my rear speaker.l. I listen more to music through my flatscreen via my computer than use my flatscreen to watch movies, and center channel speakers are not musical generally and rarely use a center channel speaker.
