  • The Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio ranges have a confusing number of models and variants, with other similar labels used to describe trim levels, transmissions etc. Things like MC Shift, MC Sportline and MC Stradale are mixed with Sport, S and plain MC. In this video, I attempt to explain the various model variants and the meanings of all the various labels applied to the GranTurismo and GranCabrio.

    You nailed it!!! So many Granturismo owners out there still very confused not knowing the difference between the MC stradale, Granturismo MC, MC sportline and MC shift, but you couldn’t have said it any better. Great video!

    Thank you for the lesson Simon. I always wondered how all the model names & trims were all related. The last generation of the MC is my fave. Looking to see you soon in a future GranTurismo Trofeo edition!

    Got most of it. Only thing with the MC Stradale is it got the 599 Ferrari GTO sequential gear box with race mode which is more hardcore than the mc shift sequential, plus you got the Carbon Ceramic brakes. In 2018 facelift they removed the carbon ceramic brakes and 599 GTO sequential gearbox so the name was changed to MC as it had less race components.

    I’ve got a 2011 Grantursmo S, it has the ZF transmission and just a few of the MC~line carbon fibre interior bits.
    Fantastic car had it for nearly a couple of years now…

    To add to the design aspect which is also confusing to some.
    The old 4.2 had no side skirts, Some 4.7 S Auto had smaller side skirts and still had four pipes, the 4.7 S had bigger side skirts and the MC Stradale had side vents where they dropped the Pininfarina badge. The old S and the S Auto had slightly different seats. And of course, there is a lot more.,,

    Great information; why don't you consider adding it all to the Wikipedia page on the Maserati Granturismo. This video has much more info than is contained there.

    There are some odd ball versions out there as well. I have a 60 year anniversary edition (1957-2017) "1 of 400" model which is a "Sport" (not an MC), but it has the same 3 scoops in the hood as the Stradale (not on the side) and has the same carbon fiber trim as the MC Sportline package you described.

    I don't think GT S was only available with sequential manual gearboxes. It's impossible to find them.

    Quite a nice video, thanks. Little correction GranCabrio did also have a MC with the ZF gearbox from 2013, which is the one I have 😅. Stradale front spoiler and double round exhaust pipes towards the middle of the car. Cheers

    Lots of information…. The ‘out-takes’ reel would be fun ( if one exists ) given the various close model names and transmission names . Great stuff , looking forward to seeing what you have next in store.

    Some key errors and omissions;
    1. Error - The GranTurismo S was in fact offered in ZF automatic transmission trim as well as the CC transmission trim
    2. Error - The GranCabrio MC was never offered with the CC transmission - in fact all GranCabrios were exclusively offered with the ZF automatic transmission
    3. Omission - The MC Stradale was offered exclusively with Carbon Ceramic brakes and 1cm wider tyres on every corner. On top of that gearshifts were improved from 100ms to 60ms. Only 497 of those were produced.

    You didn't really touch on the MC Centennial package. I believe its an additional trim for the MC Stradale or MC however I believe they are low numbered something like 400 per year. Please correct me if i am wrong.

    Hi Simon. Thanks for all the info. Yours is definitely the channel to watch for anyone interested finding out about or buying a Grantourismo. I’m looking at buying Grantourismo and am torn between the 4.2 and 4.7 due to the different gearboxes etc. I have one question if that’s OK. Apart from the power difference do you know if there is any significant difference between the mpg and the reliability of the 4.2 and 4.7 engines. Harry Metcalf seems to suggest there is a noticeable mpg difference between the two at least. Just wondered if you have any thoughts. Thanks in advance and thanks for the channel. 👍

      Thanks for watching. I don’t have any experience with the 4.2 but there’s plenty in the forums, like this post: www.sportsmaserati.com/index.php?threads/4-2-vs-4-7-gt.13211/ in terms of the transmissions, I think the sequential manual is brilliant and far more engaging than the auto, but I guess it’s a personal preference - drive both and see which you prefer. And I wouldn’t worry about mpg on these cars!! Just enjoy the experience!!

    Which transmission has the more natural feel of manual transmission? Which maserati granturismo has the better exhaust sound?

    • @mguytv
      @mguytv  Před rokem +1

      The MC Shift is closest to a manual feel (it has a manual transaxle box operated hydraulically). Any of the GTs in sport mode sound awesome!

    Hello very insightful. I'm interested in which gearbox fits best with the Granturismo. A lot of people talk bad about the MC shift gearbox, it's fragile etc. and I can't find a direct comparison report anywhere on the net. Maybe it would be a topic that would not only help me a lot when deciding whether to buy MC shift or ZF automatic.

    • @mguytv
      @mguytv  Před 2 lety +1

      The new ZF autos are very good, but when I drove a 2013 auto vs MC shift the choice was obvious to me… Try both and see which you like best 😊
