  • I should call up BC and ask what's going on, maybe yell at them for giving me a bad product. I should go onto some forums and post and ask questions. I should post in a FB group with a sound clip and ask "what's that noise".
    No I shouldn't. I should take my wheels off, pop the hood and investigate myself! That's what I'm doing today!
    Suspension clunks happen, especially after installing coilovers. Hell, just owning coilovers comes with more maintenance, including tightening things that get loose.

    For top nuts..
    Use an extended socket and Alan key then use spanner on extended socket.
    However don't use a ratchet obviously.. until you need to torque it..

    Hopefully this is the solution to my problem. I installed new FF type 2 rear coilovers on my '05 RSX Type S yesterday afternoon. Right after I backed out of my driveway and drove forward I started hearing a loud clunking (thump thump thump thump) LOL from the passenger side rear of my car. I immediately went up the street and turned around. Once back in my driveway I jacked up the car and took off the passenger rear wheel and inspected all bolts and collar rings etc. I checked the top two bolts inside my hatch. All tight. I had seen that it can actually be the bolt under the dampner as in your video. I had to work all day and drive my wife's car today. Otherwise some forums suggest a bad sway bar end link. It makes no noise at all from the driver side rear. Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the longest comment on your page. Thumbs up!

    • @CarSick
      @CarSick  Před 7 lety

      Armando Castro
      I didn't set preload when I installed them, BC usually sets them and I've done enough that I can tell if the preload is good or not by just spinning the spring. If the spring spins easy but not too easy, then you're good. It's not a bad idea to set it again to make sure it is spot on. Maybe i'll do a video on setting preload.

    Hey carsick!
    I'm having the same issue with my coilovers, but adjusting the top nut is for dampening. It was driving super stiff, so I adjusted the top nut right? Well it drives alot smoother, but now its clunking. So I guess what I'm getting at is if I was to tighten the nut back it will get rid of the clunking, but would be a really stiff ride, and if I loosen, the clunking will be there but be a smooth ride. My coilovers dont have the Alan key insert, so I'm not sure what to do. Anyone please help!!

      @CarSick  Před 6 lety +1

      Bring spring seat up until it touches the spring, then bring the lock collar to the spring seat, then spin the spring seat compressing the spring until there is about 3-5mm of a gap between the lock collar and seat. You can use the spanner wrench as a guide, it is about 4mm thick.

    do we need any torque wrench to tighten the top of the bc coils or just using spanner tighten will do the trick? And is it true that miata interior rattle is quite normal? Mine is a NC 07.

    • @CarSick
      @CarSick  Před 7 lety +1

      anthony tan
      BC prob has a torque spec for it but the problem is when you stick a torque wrench on it, the damper shaft will spin. So, most people just hit it with a couple "chuga chugas" of an impact gun. Or use a crow's foot/regular wrench and an allen key to tighten.
