I'm so impressed at Tom's ability to portray a successful businessman, a bassist, a music censor, a child watching a TV show, and himself in the same video.
*6 months pass* Bill: I am recently single. AGAIN. Hey bass guy, what are you up to now? In reference to your possible relationship status? That may have changed, in the past couple, I dunno let's say, exactly ten days ago? Bassist: fuck
All the characters are so brilliantly fleshed out. The kid at home on the couch singing along, bass player, the person who does the bleeping, plus of course Bill and Ben. LOVE IT!
I thought the implication was that he needed four roommates, and Ben was doing better financially. The idea that he once had a large well populated house that was now tragically empty didn't click for me until Ben dropped the bombshell.
need the full song with the bass changing when Bill finally launches himself at Ben and there's all the fighting sounds in the background. fantastic song!
As a Ben that is friends with a Bill, I can't wait to share this with him. Finally a song that captures our essence better than the 'Bill and Ben, the flower pot men' theme song.
The video started at 2x speed when I clicked it and when I tell you I thought this was some joke about kids media being absurdly fast-paced, I just kinda accepted it.
I love the bassist in this video, and the implication that this argument was happening behind the scenes while the bassist had to witness it and therefore when the relationship drama was brought up, he immediately knew what was coming next. Him mouthing "fuck" was just perfect. I also love his attempt to lighten the mood by changing what he plays, and the big smile on his face that transforms into a frown when Bill tells him not to change the bass. But with all that said, Darren from "#inspirational" is still my favorite Tomverse character. His growing frustration, the way he grits his teeth as he says "I'm going to ask once more clearly: what is the job that earns you money?" and of course his laugh as he asks "Isn't that like a pyramid scheme?" The Tomverse has so many weird characters so it's funny that two of my favorite characters are the "normal" ones reacting to the insanity.
I don't know how many times I've watched this already, but the delayed beep, the look on the sound guys face and his blink, just crack me up so much I'm actually crying with laughter.
i'm just gonna say that from the thumbnail, the title, and the comments about tension, i immediately thought of another type of tension, but this is good too!
I think he is just living with Bill's ex-wife and kids and it happened recently. The way I imagine the story behind this video is that Bill's wife and kids very recently packed up and left him to live in a four bedroom home alone so they could be with Ben. And I think this is the first time Bill pushed back on Bill's side of the song. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if his ex-wife told Bill she was looking for someone more responsible, who doesn't go out drinking all the time and sleep in. So that's why he is so pissed about Ben mentioning it. I assume they had been fighting about this before the cameras started rolling and the bassist had to witness it, which is why when Bill brings it up during filming, the bassist knows what was unleashed.
2 and a bit hours ago, I was just about to come off and get a fairly early night. Then I REwatched this, which subsequently took me down the Tom Cardy rabbit hole of music videos. It is now almost 3am, and I can honestly say with the utmost confidence... ...this guy isn't a cop.
So that's what happened with Ben's wife! She was killed by his ex-best man and Bill's wife ended up consoling him, then that started something between them and she left Bill. Or maybe Bill's real name is Dwink Bexon and Bill is just his stage name (or the show is an undercover operation), and he ended up killing his ex-wife who is now Ben's wife and he is also a cop. But he's not a cop.
I think Bill and Ben had a big fight behind the scenes and the bassist had to watch it all happen so when it came up in the song, he just was not having it anymore.
The Canadian experience of growing up with Aussie children's TV and now watching Tom Cardy and going, "Ah, yes. The cultural threads that bind us: passive aggressive sarcasm and casual alcoholism."
You have a gift, man. The way you perfectly set up that they're friends before a single "don't..." tells us that ohhh, there's some serious tension here. Genius.
What I think I love most about Tom Cardy is his topics. They're clearly something he thought of that would be funny, then he made it. No chasing sponsorships, no building a brand. Just. Fck it, this'll be funny. Never change mate
I'm so impressed at Tom's ability to portray a successful businessman, a bassist, a music censor, a child watching a TV show, and himself in the same video.
I loled irl
Too bad he isent a cop, too busy being a businessman
What do you mean?! They are clearly all different people. They don't even look alike.
You sure he's a businessman? I'm thinking he might be a cop
@@FelixEvers06 He said he's definitely not a cop
"No, no, don't change the bass," had me lmao because he was just trying to ease the tension but nooooo......
“No easing this tension, alright? We’re doing this one the hard way”
And his smile goes away when trying to change the bass lol
The delayed censor beep was beyond genius
That was hilarious! Had to replay it
Very Aunty Donna
Theres a great jose suicidio song that does it too lol
he only needs to say 'cun' and the beep finishes it off XD
Right?!? 💀
0:47 the bassist mouthing “fuck” after Bill mentions being single is such a small detail I almost missed it😅
omg and another delayed censor after that!
I didn't catch it, thanks for pointing it out. Tom's made another gem
Completely missed it until I looked in the comments and saw this, god that's such a good gag
He's like "Oh, here we go..."
I had to rewatch because of that! Thank you :). Should i send this to my woodshop buddy living with my ex-wife? 😅
the tension between bill and ben is insane
Sexual?

sexual
I didn’t even watch it yet, and I believe it
@@blunderbass851 There was definitely a pen and a wink somewhere
the moment i heard the "single in a 4-bedroom home" line i immediately knew what the punchline would be but hearing it was still magnificent~
Nope, it was a jaw drop for me lol
Can't believe that deadbeat loser got to keep the house.
I thought the punchline was going to be that Bill and Ben were in a relationship, but Ben left him.
Honestly I was expecting that Ben was also single but didn’t want to say it
@@Shadowmech88 i dont see it at all
The immediate "don't...don't do this." Means they had a loooooong pregame warmup before the cameras were rolling. 😂
The slurring too 😂😂
I really identify with the bass player who sees the world burning around him but just keeps smiling and strumming to the beat
Cos thats what a PROFESSIONAL does
That's because we bass players are what keeps the world turning, we keep the beat better than a drummer can, and we move the song along!
You mean Tom or Tom?
As is the way of the bass player. We're always there, but I'll be fucked if anyone remembers our existence.
"You think you're better than me?" She does.
That would be the nuclear response lol
😮
Oof lmao
I have never seen a fictional character get murdered so hard as this comment.
I'd laugh but then we'd fight to the death lmao
I like how even the bassist immediately knew that the setup was not a good sign.
this is genuinely what it feels like to listen to my local radio station in the morning. thank you tom ❤
Idk if this would be kind of doxing yourself, since idk how local it is, but I'd love to hear that radio station now

what getting up 3AM every day does to a MF
It’s very mature of bill to not let those little things get between their friendship
Well, they are... BEST FRIENDS!
The kid not fully understanding and trying to play his part the whole time is such a perfect touch.
So excited for the spinoff series involving the bassist!!

Bill: I am recently single. AGAIN. Hey bass guy, what are you up to now? In reference to your possible relationship status? That may have changed, in the past couple, I dunno let's say, exactly ten days ago?

I didn't see that ending coming at all. Superb. Also, that bass was wonderfully funky, more of that please
In a world of Bill and Ben tension, I'm the bass guy with "Not this again" face and the dead stare into the camera...
This is absolute peak comedy. There's drama, there's theatricals, there's music, there's acting, there's everything. This is actual art.
I love that the “kid” just keeps waving his arms in confused anticipation
This is why "live" TV is prerecorded

@@gangler52 I thought exactly the same 😂
Did not expect that a song could hold this much tension. Also, the delayed censor at 1:14 is perfect🤣

This is outstanding, the sound effects, the slightly off censor beep, the bass guy trying to lighten the mood, perfection!
The flowerpot men really went places once their show ended.

There's more structure, setup, backstory and tension in this minute and a half song than in a lot of movies I've watched recently. Bravo.
But is it a better love story than Twilight?
I really hope this gets an extended Spotify version too, I'd love to explore this deep, complex, thoroughly fucked up relationship
I agree wholeheartedly.

"I'll tear your face off" might be one of my new favorite lyrics.
Until the end I though they were recently-divorced husbands. Great twist!
The "No, don't change the bass. Don't change the bass" part killed me
You know, Bill should consider himself lucky to have even one close friend, even if Ben has a much larger and more supportive social circle.
The misplaced beep broke me :D
It’s very mature of Bill to become best friends with his Ex-Wife’s new lover.
