I could have cared less about geology before I visited Yosemite. I instantly was in awe and interested in how this perfect place formed. Love these videos! Thanks.

having been to the Sierra many times, I felt the granite there is a living rock, it warms your heart and cools your soul.

I visited Yosemite Valley in the spring of 2000 for a geology class, and again with family in spring 2012. What a beautiful place. Everyone should visit the park at least once in their lives.
By the size of the crowds (not including pandemics) I think they do!
Thanks for this video . The whole Nature Notes series is fantastic. I love the style of the videos and how well they're put together. I show this video to my earth science classes so they can see granite on a large scale. It really helps them relate the small hand samples they see in class to the real world. Great segment at 5:52 where that formation is a mystery to the geologist. I love that he describes it as "humbling."
I have visited Yosemite National Park several and many times. It is like a home for me and a Awesome Awareness of a Greater experience than what I have already experienced. When I leave Yosemite to go back home; I feel that I am leaving my real Home, it is something I can't explain really, but I think it is because, my Soul seems to Bond with the surroundings and its Beautiful luster of design and unique Creation to where it is beyond my Human Understanding. It is like having a Diamond and carrying it everywhere I go; until I visit where Diamonds are found, than I fall in Awe to see it's spectacular of it's Origination. Yosemite has an Origination and a Founder and a Designer and a Purposeful Reason why it exist. It is interesting to think about first, why I exist, and then visit Yosemite and think why Yosemite exist. I'm caught in a Pickle? But, it's O.K. . Why, because when I see the North Star, and see above the Earth, I see the real reason why I exist and why I really enjoy Yosemite National Park, my real Home. P.S. your welcome to come visit me anytime and we can talk a walk up to see one of the Water Falls.
You should work there and give in to The Force.

The granite and granodiorite that are the formations found in Yosemite Valley are solidified magma chambers of extinct volcanoes. Because of the movement of the earth's crust, through the process of uplift and erosion, the rock formations have slowly been exposed to the elements, and were carved over the millenia by glaciers. I don't know where you're coming up with this "moon striking the earth as a source of granite in Yosemite" business.
I feel bad for these people, they all take Yosemite for granite.

Why don't you just tell us the truth? You know that the granite in Yosemite is from the moon, and if you don't, then you shouldn't be a geologist? Yes people! The moon has hit the earth, and quite a few times in fact. Just reverse the lunar images, then overlay them over the earth. Mare Orientale Basin is crater you want to center over Yosemite. By the way, the moon is about the size of mars, the prints don't lie. Newfoundland, same crater. It's a magnetic pole thing, opposites attract.

as if we never seen igneous extrusions before.. Yosemite is beautiful, although
running out of beer sucks, one liquer store WAY over priced) somewhere anywhere! Although yosemite is powerfull tour guides act belittling, some
explaining science are not well founded nor scientifically as they sounded.
You try to give the impression that you paid a little attention in 5th grade science class then finish off showing that you spent too much time looking for liquor stores instead.
