  • Lisa's traumatic brain injury story. Lisa and her family's lives changed dramatically when her physician husband slipped and fell, sustaining a "Mild" Traumatic Brain Injury which prevented him from returning to work.
She describes how her husband changed after the TBI, her worries, how she handled the distress, what she regrets not having done, and how she uses strong determination and hope to move forward.
She cautions family caregivers not to neglect their own needs and encourages them to remain hopeful.

I had a tbi and there was ZERO HELP…very hard to find a neurologist that will help a concussed car accident victim…OR if a neurologist does see you, they mess with your head and tell you nothing is wrong even though you clearly have neurofatigue, memory issues, and balance problems…I am alone in this world both my parents have passed and this TBI has been the absolute worst experience…I’m also a nurse. When I went to the ER, that doctor was a (we’ll call him a jerk but i could definitely think of stronger words) he didn’t believe anything was wrong with me. I was stopped at a red light and a car at a high rate of speed smashed into me. I took all the impact for 3 cars ahead of me. Im so angry when I think of how I was treated and I’m a nurse-/I’m 4 years out, still have memory issues, processing information, reading comprehension…I finally found 2 doctors that are helpful but everyone else was horrible and/or got mad at me --there is no help!

I too have a severe brain injury, but after many years of effort I've discovered an effective protocol that has restored much of my lost function. If you wish to learn about my technique you are welcome to ask. As the son of a Yale trained psychiatrist I can state from experience that doctors are trained to both mis-diagnose and mistreat neural pathologies, and by way of the highly dysfunctional culture of medical professionals are given to engage in hostile and abuse behavior of such extremes as to constitute its own form of reckless endangerment for any TBI survivor. It's late at night now for me; time to apply heat therapy and rest in liue of sleep. It's a tedious method but it has saved my life. So I do hope that this little hint is of interest. wishing you the best, Noel G.

I lost everything after my TBI. My wife, my business and myself. Just craziest crap ever.. today I take it day by day and focus on the good things I still can do with normalcy.

I'm going through it now. My husband had an accident 2 weeks after covid hit and shut everything down, his mother NOR I could ride in the ambulance with him, he was in ICU for 36 days, he didn't know what happened or why he was there or why his family wasn't there...He ended up having to have a craniotomy because of the pressure on his brain, and almost 3 years later, he's could potentially be having another one. It takes a tole on the entire family. And especially the spouse...I would never ever wish this on my worst enemy.

Here’s a novel idea, since us brain injury survivors have to deal with several doctors, the doctors should join together and meet with the patient once in a while to have a true team approach in patient care, treatment, etc. I’ve always thought this would be beneficial.

I am so glad I found this interview. Our lives are very similar. My husband was also a physician and suffered a TBI 5 years ago. It has been the hardest journey of our lives. Still trying to find our new purpose in life. Thank you!

My wife and family lived through the aftermath of my injuries in glorious living Technicolor. I've said all along that they were the heroes, not me because I was "absent" and I don't remember very much from the first six months. The new me is now 9 years old and very lucky to still have my wife, children and friends with me on this journey. Your husband is a lucky man too and I wish everything for you that you wish for yourselves. Love from another family who understand all your struggles, grief, successes and failures and the benefits of being positive and remaining stubbornly focused on just not giving in. It does get better. ❤

Her story is pretty much same as mine.but my husband put everything on me except driving .plus he isolated me and my children.we can’t go and meet any family or friend and nobody can come to our house because of his behavior.and he will never go to a psychiatrist.

I wish I could connect with this woman. She shared many thoughts that spoke to me, and her dedication to her family mirrors my own. Our trajectory was different (my husband was undiagnosed for many, many years, and prior to my meeting him), but also many similarities.

I woke fully clothed in a wet bed covered in thick black and white moulds. Last thought before I fell asleep for 6 months "What did I survive this for? I'd been drugged awake for enough brief seconds after 2 weeks hospital after Intensive Care Unit with brain bleeds so as vile matron who hated having to do the hospital tuck of the top sheet over my feet glanced up and saw I was in memory recall. She excitedly phoned a plane ticket as I'm on an island 100km from Auckland Hospital NZ where I'd been helicoptered to. Oops she'd forgotten to phone for a taxi so pani ced she wouldn't get one but did. I'd written a diary of what happened in the hospital. That and all my clothes and pills were gone. I was given a full page love letter from my personal nurse telling me how much she'd enjoyed being with me. Because I knew matron was a cheat I assumed my love letter was a forgery (impossible to forge that much but this is my first few seconds awake. What religion is it to trust EVERYONE with unaccountable power o ver life? In the US 1/3 of all deaths are from doctors with false facts on pelple's medical files. 8 1/2 years later stuck in solitary on top of a hill because they broke my 27 gear mountain road bike I endure intense suicidal ideation when I'm not able to feel the hope of love. I survive in solitary on Ensure food powder in creek water. 2 childless women hung themselves over this mess and a boy was buried alive. This is called "Family Support". A Gorter Family Foundation man whose family own half of Goldman Sachs had vandalised my brake to cause the injury. His second new wife with new baby fled him when i woke. 100% of the 4/5 who are denied rehab attempt suicide in 4 years. Half are dead in 5.

This is very encouraging. My husband just had a severe brain injury and he’s still not awake, the doctors expect him to recover but what that means I don’t know. I’m scared and grieving but we have a deep faith. Great advice from this video.

Thank you for sharing this video. We have a family member that also had a tbi and it is scary and at times feels very frightening. Listening to this story of Lisa and her husband along with her children certainly gives anyone that is going through similar circumstances a good and positive attitude and there is light definitely shining. Thank you again. All the best to you and your family Lisa 🌸

I fell in my kitchen while hurrying to get ready to leave and I hit head first on the hard wood floor. From where I caught my toe to where my head hit was about 9 feet. I had a CAT scan-no brain bleed. I
Started getting numbness in my toes then up to the calves then above knees. Fingers went numb. Tiredness. Anxiety. Panic attacks. What do you think?

My husband fell and hit his head, he wasn’t diagnosed with anything. But the man had never been angry at me or yell at me before the accident. Only after. But he didn’t seem to have any of these other issues. Could it only effect his anger?

I am sorry for what happened to your friends. Speech Aphasia is hard, one of my best friends has that now and he can't form sentences at all. Please just remember that they can understand you better than you may think. It's probably very frustrating for them. Please do not baby them / treat them like they dont understand, I accidentally did that with my friend one time and it really upset him. I wish you all the best, God bless

Hi Dan Im'ma from (MIT) university freshmen. I've encountered a recent incident that has left me in need some advice . I wanted to share that I recently experienced a concussion 3 days ago, and unfortunately, it has occurred again in the same right side. I'm wondering, would a sudden sideways motorbike collision with a cycle at a speed of 30 km/hr., causing a forceful movement of my torso to lurch and my head in relative (lateral flexion) in the same area of the first concussion ,can it potentially cause damage to the previously concussed neurons ? very worried since i am difficulty speaking like finding right words and articulating fluently and even slight difficulty understanding words and its been 1 month no recovery? i initially have no symptoms after the incidence like nausea or dizziness , does it cause any permanent deficits or it is just temporary ? and Does this injury lead to the diminution of a handful of neurons?
