Yeah you dont really need to "rest" your hand at all. Lets say when you are palm muting, you are lightly touching the strings, but when not, you are either keeping your hand "above" and/or "behind" strings, experiment this yourself. Actually I could make a separate video about this also. Shortly I would say keep them right at the spot where your strings are coming in or slightly behind.
