Thank you so much. This is so helpful. Currently my sulcata isn't eating and almost always sleeping. There were weeks that I was not able to bring him/her outside for sunlight and that's when he/ she became "lazy". But I'm worried because the shell seemed to have softened and there's a black "patch" in its chest. 😢 Now, I always put him/her outside for a walk and a little sunshine and then soak in water for few minutes. Hope he gets better after few days.

You say about not picking a tortoise up too much, that they are not cuddly pets etc? My red footed tortoise, after his meal and bath 🛀 loves to cuddle into my neck on a chair, he literally finds his way towards me then climbs up. Every pet/person is different so I think you have to be really careful on the advice you give here. However, the temperature advice you gave made a lot of sense x
I don't think giving advice about tortoise temperament is incorrect, it's just how most tortoises are. Of course there will be exceptions.

It's always best to feed fresh weeds and grasses but if you're struggling you can try soaked food pellets. My tortoises really like the zoomed grassland ones. They seem to be out of stock but here's a good alternative: amzn.to/3O14N1U . If it's a tortoise then there should be no protein in their diet. Hope this helps!
My aunt gave me her tortoise (for whatever reason I never asked for it) but I’ve had him for over 6 months now and he was eating perfectly fine until it hit mid November. He drinks his water but never touches the food I give him anymore and I feel bad cuz I don’t want it to starve, but could this be because it knows it’s winter and he’s hibernating? Yes, he could be trying to hibernate. Unfortunately I don’t have much experience with that but you can avoid the hibernation by keeping its enclosure warm throughout the winter. Hope this helps!
I live in Arizona it's hot here but my tortoise definitely knows when the weather is shifting also feels it. So yes your tort was slowing down on eating because of hibernation. Plus you don't want your tort to have any good in their. Ody while in hibernation basically you want to see them to poop it all out before going in to hibernate mine usually does then goes in his burrow and is down there from late November sometimes Early December til beginning to Mid April. Hope your tort had a great hibernation seeing as this was 5 months ago... Godbless!
I got a question I'm not sure if it's common or I'm just the only one having this problem. I have a 2 month old and one hatchling sulcata tortoise. To start it off they do poop and urinate and urates do come out that's a good sign. However I have been trying to introduce fruits to them, different vegetables and weeds but they refuse to eat it. The only thing that I have seen them eat are peas. Will they grow out of it and try different things out? Or is something seriously wrong?

So I got a herman tortoise December 20th it’s now January 16th almost a month. He is a very active tortoise. I take him out of his enclosure and let him roam on the floor he loves to do that. I feed him romaine lettuce everyday. He has a UVB and a heat lamp but even though I give him lettuce everyday he doesn’t want to eat it everyday. I’ve soaked him everyday and he barely poops. I clean out his substrate by sifting through it and I keep his enclosure clean and tidy. Am I doing something wrong? Herman has me very concerned. He does eat a lot when he is ready to eat but he doesn’t poop a lot. Am I dealing with blockage? Is there anything I can do to help him.
No lettuce! This is not diet! They need weeds and flowers! They can't have poop with lettuce! Try to feed it: mallow,hibiscus,dandelions,opuntia cactus,aloe vera,petunia mexican petunia,radishes,radicchio,lamp lettuce!

I got a baby turtoise a weak ago its an asian leaf species. But the problem is he is not eating anythingg😢. I gave him cabbages and some other leaf he is not even touching it. Do i need to take care specially for a baby one...?
He could be ill, I suggest taking him to the vet

I got my tortoise as a present 8 years ago. She was always peppy but now she won’t eat. I do not know what is her species. Her shell is 1.5” in diameter (less than 4cm). Does anyone know the right temperature. About a month ago we to went to the beach, so I took her with me. At the beach she did not have her heat lamp and her regular things. She is looking sick for about three days now. 😢
Take her to the vet.
Hey what happens if you give tortoises the same food everyday and nothing else?
They develop health issues and deformities. It's the same thing with humans. If you only eat cheese burgers your whole life you are going to develop serious health issues.

my tortious is not eating and sleeping a lot after i gave her antibiotics I don't think it hibernation because its summer and its 40c

My red footed tortoise 🐢 loves a bit of ham or chicken as well as salad 🥗 and he loves a warm water bath 🛀 in front of the tv. Spoilt but happy chappy 🇬🇧🇬🇧

My tortoise won't eat her hay she loves leafy greens like dandelion but she isn't eating any grass...I gave her a very small peice of watermelon and she ate it so I'm assuming it iant her apetite...when I put her outside she eats some of the weeds but hay she shows no interest for
