  • The only all-African-American touring rodeo has been visiting Alameda County for dozens of years - and the stands continue to fill. See what makes the Bay Area crowd and experience so special.

      You do have all White ones...Look at the color of people at your typical rodeo..If those were more open to people of African descent there would be no need for us to start one for our people..

    • @shirleypena4133
      @shirleypena4133 Před 2 lety +1

      @@messenger1336 Speaking as a sixty-five year old part Hispanic, part Native American, whose family have been into this for generations, I can assure you that I've as yet to attend an all-White rodeo, and can assure you that people of African descent ARE NOT prevented from participating in ANY rodeos...and that includes those rodeos that are deemed all-Hispanic.
      The reason it's important to have rodeos solely for African Americans IS NOT because Blacks are barred from anyone's rodeos, but because too few Blacks in today's society are into rodeo, or the cowboy culture. This is especially true for those living in poor, inner-city communities.
      This is in stark contrast to our nation's Western past, when Blacks (listen closely) made up the MAJORITY OF COWBOYS IN WESTERN UNITED STATES, followed by Hispanics and folks of mixed ancestry (mostly those who were Native American and African American). Betcha didn't know that! Therefore, the African American rodeos are returning to the Black communities an important part of their culture as AMERICAN citizens. Do some research on Bill Pickett. He thought of himself as an AMERICAN first and foremost, as did the majority of African Americans during our nation's post Civil War Western days...and for many generations afterward.
      Please take the time to do some research on the history of African American cowboys, the important role they played in Western culture, and their participation in rodeos past to present.

      @@shirleypena4133 Your facts are greatly off on how African Americans saw themselves post Civil War..American citizenship was viewed as very important but my ancestors weren’t naive in terms of understanding cultural differences and similarities. Just because someone says Black owned does not mean black only, all are welcomed. If someone wishes to start there own organization or group due to the feeling of discrimination so be it. We don’t half to assimilate into one idea
