    I get it now,
    Arrhenius definition: Acids give H+, bases give OH-
    But then came aong NH3 and it messed up the definition. so now Bronsted lowry come along and said.
    Bronsted-lowry definition: Acids give protons and bases accept protons

    I think there is a Problem with Oxygen....
    EDIT: Oxygen have 6 valence electron and shares its 1 electron with Hydrogen forming Covelent bond, Na have 1 valence electron so, Oxygen atoms gets 1 electron from Na atoms and formed Ionic bond. OH gets negative charge and Na gets Positive charge... Now i get it....
    Thnx for the tutorial..

    Lewis/Bronsted-Lowry/Arrhenius definitions only differ in their definitions of a base i.e. any proton acceptor or donator of an electron pair to a proton.

    A hydrogen ion attached to an H2O is H3O, what is an OH ion attached to H2O, H3O2??

      Who knows

    • @raphaelsback
      @raphaelsback Před rokem

      H+ is currently unstable though it is an ion as it is in neither duplet or octet state so it forms a co-ordinate bond with H2O. Because H+ has no e-, those're offered by H2O and they then form H3O+.
      The same cannot be said for OH- ions, which can exist independently, so there is no need for it to combine with H2O molecule which is also stable.
      (IDK this might be the answer.)
