These were the only ones in stock at the time.
Did you mean you flown this pack till 2.5v per cell on the second flight in the park?
Why not fly this till 2.5v per cell since it is li-ion and it is possible to do it..
great stuff dude! got a battery spot welder instead of soldering for my battery pack builds, can't wait to experience longer flight times!
As someone else posted, you should use the 30 amp rated sony cells for a quadcopter. Also, you may be selling your pack short. Lion cells can be safely drained below 3.0 volts with no problem. Unlike lipo where 3.5 is usually the time to land, these ones can keep going. Read specs to be sure, but I think you can fly well beyond 3.5v per cell on these. Even so, 14 mins on a small quad is impressive. It might even be 2.5 volts! Also, most hobby chargers like your b6 have a LIon mode built in. No need for a separate charger as long as you use the right mode.
Cheers
Try to stick closer to 3 volts then 2.5v, yes you can go to 2.5v but it damages the battery's pretty heavily, my first attempt at 18650s was a battery for my eskate board and I ran them to 2.8 and after 4 months of just general riding around I busted 8 out of 50 cells.
great video just made my first 4s bat for my long range fpv quad:)
you the man Pete, thanks for the vid.
Thanks :)
Very nice battery mod Pete.
Thanks Greg :) I'm making my second pack now. 👍
Thanks for this video!
Thank you for sharing
You are legend! I will be making a few of these!
These are great for long flights :)
I’ve made some 6s packs to use on my Razor pocket mod for extended ride time too. 👍
Thanks dude. Very helpful. I just finished making one. Instructions were very clear and easy to follow. Much appreciated
Glad it helped!
hello, how much flight time you got from your built?
@@Waikhom007 I can get around 19+ minutes. I've heard some people charge their Li-ion on Li-po setting to get 4.2 volts (I've never tried, nor am I advising you to try the above mentioned charging voltage) I used cheap Li-ion (this was an experimental test pack) batteries so my flight time varies and seems lower than the many reported 30 minutes flight times. The pack cost around USD 7.00 dollars. ( I had all other material on hand)
@@pandrews01 do you have reddid?I need your help. Please feel free.Because i am also stuck in lipo battery.
@@Waikhom007 Their are many tutorials on CZcams, simply type in, "making a 18650 4S flight pack" You will be introduced to no less than 6 videos. @RC Escape is the slowest and most thorough tutorial I have watched to date. His tutorial is one of the better ones. Follow his instructions and you will have no problems. If you having trouble finding the materials (soldering gun, wires, balance plug, solder, flux, XT60/30, 18 AWG wire) check your local hobby store.
Thanks for sharing your DIY 4S Li-ion pack video! Just make sure you understand Li-ion is not Li-pol! You can safely drain the Li-ions down to 2.5V per cell. The general observation si though Li-ion batteries loose their voltage pretty quickly after they hit 3.0V per cell so it's a good idea to start thinking about landing around that point. Don't forget you have 3000mAh pack and you are draining about 1000mAh from it. Your actual flight time is at least twice as long - just try harder! ;-)
Fantastica explicação, procurei muito uma demonstração de facil entendimento e você com clareza e muita didatica demonstrou como fazer um pack com muita segurança e com ótima qualidade. Obrigado. sou seu mais novo inscrito.
THANKS, thanks...!
Hey bro just wanna say good video over all man but I just wanted to mention that the lion battery are realy friging heavy so some times depending on your motor prop set up it will actually be better dropping to a 3 cell pack, efficiency is yes so even tho it seem counter intuitive going up in motor size and a two blade prop can yeald better results. But over all man great video 🏋♂️
You can go to 2.5v per cell but make sure you adjust esc to go to that low point then you can get a lot more flight time
Thank you :)
hello sir i want to make this type of pack.
Any advice before going futher?
i have genace mars 3 changer.
Hey Pete, try to pick up a spot welder. When applying to much heat to these batteries depletes their lifetime of the batteries. I have done alot projects with these type of batteries. Great video as aways 👍👍👍👍👍
I don't know how much It'll get used but I did see some DIY spot welder build out of microwave transformer. My microwave is about to die and needs a new transformer. Maybe I can use the old one. I need to get me a arc welder first :)
I have some welding to do. Thanks Ray! 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺
@@RCEscape That will work. Make a video of it. It might be too long but just time lapse it. 👍👍👍👍👍
Heya I loved the video man 👍 I have a question regarding my 4s BMS, I just installed one for my 4s 4p battery and I got 16.40 volts out of the BMS which is good but whenever I plug my battery to a load the battery immediately drops to 11.16 volts and but it drops to 4.8 volts when I start using the load with the battery. Can you tell me what's causing this? The BMS and battery cells are brand new.
Toss out the bms. You should use a balance connector instead for a 4s set up.
Wow! you make it simple DIY project. But for me it takes time to solder that wire. What soldering iron are you using?
Nice project built Pete!!
I'm using Kester solder and the Hakko FX888D soldering iron. Seems to work very well. I still have my cheap soldering iron but have a sharp tip for smaller jobs. It is the Kester solder that made the difference for me. Thanks :) 👍
its easier when you use flux even a 10 year old can solder, just by using flux!
Great video. Can I use the same size shrink wrap for 3s3p?
I'm pretty sure you can. I use it to shrink wrap all my 4s china hobby line white and black batts.
Awesome video tho
My friend the best 18650 batteries 🔋 to use are the Murata VTC6 Li-ion (formally known as Sony) because they have a 30amp discharge capacity (continuous discharge of 15amps). GEPRC uses these batteries for there packs 👍🏾
Thanks for that info. Appreciate it :) 👌
They are available now at RDQ.
www.racedayquads.com/products/sony-vtc6-3000mah-18650-li-ion-battery-2-pack-for-x-lite-goggles-vaping-diy-packs?_pos=6&_sid=bdac52829&_ss=r
thanks for sharing this tutorial 🙏, i use vtc 6 murata battery for making 4s. and i got 7minutes flight timre (5" quad with gopro) this is normal time ?
I've not used the murata batts but 7 minutes isn't that great. Maybe your quad is drawing a lot of amps.
Why i cant charge it on lipro imax b6? It always says voltage error
You can take lion packs down to 3 volt per cell if not a little lower no problem
How much will you charger me for a 5s version?
Thanks for sharing. Btw, the link for the fish paper is incorrect....links to RDQ.
Thanks for that!
Can you charge them by using Lipo mode on a charger?
yes of course.
Sadly, after purchasing high quality cells, there's isn't an outstanding savings. But, they should become worth it after the first 2 or 3... What do you thing you saved on that pack? Great review btw!
Agreed! The cost of the heat shrink, wires, the balance connectors inflates the cost for the initial couple packs but after that it is just the cost of the batts. If I were to purchase two ZOHD $37.99 packs = $80.98 with shipping 25 to 35 days. I made two for a total of $80. That's including xt60 connectors and wires which I didn't buy but used old ones cut from old batteries. So my total cost was $65. So each costed $32. Now my third will cost just $22 vs $37.99 and savings will now begin and made them in 6 days of ordering all the stuff. Time + Money saved.
I'm a little bit late to the party with this fpv trend, is the main thing the batteries are just lighter weight?
Light weight batteries are good but usually when it comes to batteries, the light ones are the bad ones unfortunately.
No...the Li-ion packs have a much higher discharge compared to lipo,s. So you can fly for longer as long as your flying smoothly and not doing punch outs or stressing the battery.
you charge in Lipo option?
Yes, you can so it can be charged to 4.2volts or the lion mode.
Hi~
Let me ask you a question.
It's a 3 inch cine hoop.
In the video, there are videos of making a pack with 4 lithium-ion 18650 batteries and flying it with an FPV long range.
With excitement, I ordered batteries and made a pack.
LGDBHG21865 3000mA.
The problem is... When I hovered, the yaw tick symptom reappeared after it came up, and, after a few seconds, the low-voltage buzzer sounded and the aircraft sank.
If I open it again, it opens again,,,,, repeat...
So, I changed the low voltage warning in Beta Flight to 2.7V, and when I turned it on, there was no sound.
If I take a break for a while, it will float again. But it sinks again... The battery is hot, and the voltage is 3.8V... TT
I bought 40 tablets... but I can't use them all?
How do people use? Batteries were also made by buying anything.
Is my FC the problem? Or is there a special setting for Li-ion?
FC is IFlight SucceX Mini F4 V3 Stack, and the manual says 2~6 Lipol. Do I have to use only Lipol? Can I change FC?
Why is this happening?
It's a waste of money/work time.
I'm serious~~ Please advise.~~ TT
Did you get the original Batteries? Sounds like they are not the original batteries.
@@RCEscape
If it is a normal product, should this phenomenon not occur?
@@user-uh9mc7xb8t
I still fly with mine and it is one and a half year old. I fly my 3 inch green hornet which is a cinewhoop with no issues I fly my 5' light weight quads with no issues. It is still going strong.
@@RCEscape
How much does the drone weigh without the battery?
Your battery is the same as mine. is mine fake? The motor is 1408 3600KV, should I lower it further?
Will 5s or 6s solve the voltage drop?
Used your video to make my very first Lithium Ion Batteries. Yours was the easiest tutorial. Getting close to 7minutes of real flight time on my 5" quadcopter! How are you able to charge your packs so quickly? I'm charging the 18650 at 1.6a and it takes nearly 1.5 hours.
Awesome!! It does take me a little longer to charge from a more depleted battery. So long as about 1000mah can be used up on a flight, it is so worth it.
@@RCEscape Thanks RC Escape. I left a link to your tutorial and mentioned your channel in my latest Lithium build. Much Appreciated!
Just curious, is it necessary to wire them to a bms and then charge them through the bms?
Not really.
The hobby grade chargers balance each cell and safely stops charging once it is fully charged. The BMS kind of does that and it is often used when a basic charger with no balancing feature is used like a hoverboard or an ebike battery and when there are more cells involved especially when there is more than a single pack.
@@RCEscape thanks!
Hi, 2 year I do my li-ion pack is better I have build a soldering station for that better.
That seems to be what needs to be done with li ion batts becoming popular.
@@RCEscape Yes 👍
Thanks! Making our own battery pack is not that hard.
Yep! I just made my second pack :)
The guy sounds like murphy
Dont solder lithium batteries.... they have to be spotwelded!!
Doesn't matter if you are quick, spot welds are weak for high amount draw situations, meaning you have to get chunky nickel strips meaning you need a very expensive spot welder
Lol there are fake ones out there for sure.. I got stung on these "good deal" 18650 batteries with high claimed Mah printed on them to only get batteries that weigh lighter than a feather 😕
Aliexpress. I was so tempted! Ebay too but not cheap and don't know if they are fake. Maybe one day at Walmart battery section :) lol! Thanks Dave 👍
@@RCEscape just finished watching 14mins is pretty decent Pete, great job on the assembly of the battery pack, thanks for sharing! 👍🍻
@@PERTHWESTOZRC
I need to test it out on smaller quads. It should get better flight times.
Another plus is these batteries have better life expectancy and more recharge times. We shall see :)
@@RCEscape I bought some Westinghouse brand 2000mah 18650's from Walmart a few months ago to use in my Jumper. Outdoor lighting section.
