I can't believe I just watched a 10 minute advertisement, since I fish for musky I guess I'm a sucker anyway! Lol love you guys.
You are so right about how the high end rods are more expensive, but what you get is lighter weight for the same performance. Over a long day of casting, or if (like me) you aren't super young or have any arm/shoulder/back issues... that weight reduction is really golden. It allows you more casts for the same effort. I haven't tried Chaos rods but will in the future. I really like their lures and their website and service are good.
I bought a tranx 400 hg and the surgical strike no complaints awesome gear all from watching your guys videos
Another great video Lee, thanks for your time and knowledge you give us.
You're welcome
Excellent presentation. I guess I've always been a bit intimidated about muskie fishing. One of the reasons is, I had no idea where to start with tackle. Now, thanks to you, I do!
Glad to help
Beautiful combo. My new set up will be a Daiwa Prorex 8.1 400 on a St Croix legend Glass rod. I like E glass for all my fishing.
First time watching. I'm hooked.😅 Thank you sir.
Thanks!!
I have a few telescoping rods and they have never failed. Both are bass pro rods and are 20 years old. So I'll be looking at these to buy a few. Nice job.
I have the same rods. Extreme rod I believe
I have that combo in the shock and awe but I still want custom Thorne Bros rods for more technique specific rods
How well does the tranx fit in the reel seats of the assault sticks?
I love my Lexa 300 HS-P. I will say that I'm not a huge fan of the tranx's power handle, but it definitely has a better locking mechanism after cast.
just got one hoping it works out pretty good
@@lilween7887 Awesome!! Let me know how you like it. I suggest getting a better oil and greasing in the gears. I still have locking mechanism issues, but I believe it to be user-error (short reeling and soft casting, etc). Hope you get a monster.
I couldn’t get my hands on a Shimano Tranx back in June but the guys at my tackle shop told me the next best thing was the new Daiwa Prorex, so I got the Prorex 8’6” telescoping Rod and Daiwa Prorex Reel around Father’s Day.Hopefully that $700 was well spent, as I have yet to use it as it’s been too hot and I haven’t had much vacation time.
Same here.
It's a sweet setup.
I'm looking into getting my 1st musky rod. I've been fishing lakes off docks recently catching catfish, crappies, etc...also been doing so stream fishing for trout, but I want to try something bigger. There's a lake near me that has big musky called Milton Hill down here in Tennessee.
Since I've seen 1000s of different variations and set ups I am overwhelmed by decisions. I primarily will be fishing from the banks till I can save up for a boat and my Tacoma and house really doesn't wanna accommodate a rod past 8'. Anyways, long story short I've narrowed my search down to the 7'-8' rod range and I plan on using MH power for smaller lures. Would a 7' 6" in MH be a good starter rod since I'll be carrying it around the lake? I just would like some advice. I could probably swing an 8' as well. I'm looking at St croix premier or mojo. I already have a beginner reel l, the Abu Garcia 6500 Ambassadeur. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!
Lee is the man, thanks for the info! Don't have musky here in Socal but who cares.
Thanks
Will this work for saltwater?
Couldn’t agree more!
I like the idea of the hole in the grip. But I wish they didn't drill the hole all the way thru. I was used to the standard hook connection on the green assualt sticks. Then switched to 2020s. If your in the heat of the moment with 3 rods rigged with baits and you quickly grab your rod the hooks will stick your trigger finger. Also bigger hooks with bigger barbs will get stuck in the hole. Plus I don't like the feel of the hole in the front. If it was just drilled half way it would eliminate all those issues for me. Thoughts?
Half way through will dull hooks that's probably why they drilled all the way through.
Do you ever throw baits that are a few oz lighter or a few oz heavier. than the rods lure weight ratings?
For sure. Just not the other way much.
One thing I wish I knew when I started was the longer the rod the better. I started with a 7 and to be efficient you really have to have an 8 foot or more.
I don't agree. 7' rods work just fine for Figure 8's unless you are extremely tall.
@@peterkolovos3079 agreed.
If you remember the video of you drilling a hole in the reel seat to hook a lure up then your old school.
I'm supper skeptical now days on products iam going to buy. So resale is a big driver on what goes in my boat. And where the money is going is another big factor. I still have some original 13 fishing gear that was made entirely in the states. It stinks they have sold out. I just found an American custom maker that shares his products with like minded individuals. Keeping business local helps our entire fishing system. Does any of the proceeds from these products go back into musky stocking and study?
I agree fully I have the 400 hg on the original swat 9' and I have the high speed beast and the tranx is a much nice feel but I wish the rods had more pop in them very stiff tips...lol but best rod still
20/20 with a Prorex is bomb
I want one!
Do the rods have a warranty, I snapped a 10ft shock and awe casting a beaver?
I also snapped a shock and awe casting heavy rubber baits! It was a telescopic model
Yes, contact Chaos Tackle from their website.
Btw we use these for 200lb tarpon in fl and you’re using it for a fish that wouldn’t pull more that 10 yards of braid
What you don't realize is that we cast 4-16oz lures all day. Quite different.
I’ve bought two 400hg tranx in the last year and both came out of the box not working properly. Would only cast half as far as they should and than every so often they would randomly cast super far which would inevitably result in a backlash cause I wasn’t expecting it. Not super happy. The first one I even paid 50$ to send into Thorne brothers and have them repair it and they sent it back with the same issue.
Im betting the vbs braking system was not adjusted properly, but I could be wrong.
@@TodaysAngler I looked there first to make sure all the brakes weren’t in the on position and they weren’t so not sure if that was an issue or not. In both the reels three brakes were in and three were off in a stagger pattern
@@tfacelift I had a similar issue once after I cleaned my Tranx. Something simple to look at is the ring in the side plate (don't know what the real name is, it's what the brakes rub against on the cast). That ring actually needs to be VERY lightly lubed for the brakes to work right. Put a drop ot two of oil on it and spread it around with a q tip so that there's a film of oil all over it.
What pound braid you got on it?
80lb power pro super slick v2
What lb test was that line?
80lb
Neat!
Fun Fact: Gandalf uses this set up to catch hobbits
Good to know!
Lee steals waypoints from guides too 😉
Shimano is definitely the best fishing reel brand there is. When will there be more mini boilermakers in stock at the musky shop?
Boilermakers are only available at LeeLures.com
I no longer sell to Musky Shop because they didn't renew sponsorship with us this season.
@@TodaysAngler Why? Because of Musky Shop TV? I suppose that was S Pauls idea huh?
@@MuskyJaeger19 right you are
Why should I go with a 300 vs 400
You shouldn't, you want a 400
Im ordering a 301hg tranx fir pike
Nice
buy once cry once. a motto to live buy. it only hurts til the next paycheck.
Dang I wish I had one NOW! sighhhh
10 minutes of my life I'll never get back!!
But you wasted more time to make a pointless comment. Lol. Derp derpa derp.
The best rod and reel combo is the one you can afford..
♥️
I would recommend a 7 - 7 1/2 ' rod especially for beginners. Much easier to handle...much easier in
the boat space....much easier when you catch a fish as the longer rod is very hard to maneuver in a netting
situation.
A little steep? Lets talk about pushing extremely expensive product. My 90's vintage Shimano Calcutta's and my 80's vintage Quantum 1420's mounted on older St. Croix Premier Graphite rods that were $65.00 a copy catch just as many and as big a fish as the stuff you're hawking. 9 foot rods is crazy.
Yeah, I have a 90s era abu Garcia reel and a St croix premier rod. But I also have 2020 era tranx reels and St croix big nasty's. As with most thing that are 30 years apart, night and day difference in performance.
Hey, I’m glad you like your gear. But 9’ rods cast much better than 8’. And a lazy figure 8 on a 9 footer is better than a good figure 8 on an 8 foot rod.
🤢🤮
💪👍👏
You stopped yourself on the handle. Why not the rest of the product. The manufacturers need to understand, product identity will sell more customers. Even st croix found out the hard way. Once you take production out of the states. Your cred drops drastically. For the profit margens being made. The prices need to reflect. People are catching on!!!!
Not sure what you mean stopped myself.
The better product will sell itself.
@@TodaysAngler the better product is a second hand product from another manufacturer. Dresses with different stickers and twice the price. Capitalism at its finest. Primary owner pays $75, then the next middle man pays $150, then the next 175. And finally the customer $350.
Robbie please fish
until shimano releases a 501 size tranx, i wont buy one.
Understand
I think the 500 would be pretty close to the same size as a 501???
@@jeffcardarelle5504 500 is with the handle on the right side of the reel.
501 (does not exists) would be with the handle on the left side of the reel.
Yeah, understand what the 1 on a reel number indicates. You referenced size, not handle location.
St. Croix mojo musky telescopic rod is way better
😆
And it's only a $700 package...........lol
500 for the Original Assault Stick and Tranx
