    Good video. Could you do one of the awning, and give some comments on the material thickness and length. Looks like you have one on the side and the back?

    • @OverlandAZ
      @OverlandAZ  Před 5 lety +1

      James Bradsby funny you should ask, I actually filmed video for the awnings as well I just haven’t finished editing. I outline setup on the rear awning. The side one is the same process. Material thickness is good, it is thicker than the smittybilt and has reinforced edges where it attaches to the aluminum rails (think same material as the tent cover).

    REALLY shocked that this is the 1st tent I've seen with no top windows for summer camping. I do like the solid build quality though. And they include the annex for free most the time I've seen

    • @OverlandAZ
      @OverlandAZ  Před 4 lety +1

      josh Brown there weren’t as many tent options back when we bought this, and the ones that had roof windows required the rain fly to be off to use. There are probably more options now, but it wasn’t a priority for us. The materials and build quality are great and have proven themselves well 👍

    Great review and setup video. Answered most of my questions. Hoping you can answer a couple more.
    1. Can the tie downs be securely tied back to the vehicle say to step bar or bumper if you're in a place you can't stake into the ground?
    2. Other than the entry door, is there a small hole a power cord could be passed through? I would like to be able to run 12v power into it and leave it in

    • @OverlandAZ
      @OverlandAZ  Před 4 lety +1

      Jeremy Kent Hey Jeremy! 👋🏼 Yes, you could tie it back to the vehicle if you had no other options, but the overhang would have a bit less space since it would be pulled in towards the vehicle. But we have done it. We have also used our 6 gallon water jug as a tie down point, so you can get creative if it’s going to be windy or rainy. There is an opening at the center hinge where the tent folds on each side that you can run a power wire through. We have done that with our LED strip!

    Do you get a squeaky noise front your ladder when it's folded up?

    • @OverlandAZ
      @OverlandAZ  Před 2 lety

      Not that I’d ever noticed. We have the Alpha now (still have the Ranger too but it gets rented out). The alpha has rubber pads where the ladder rests. Maybe something that could be added to the Ranger, I’m thinking even furniture feet pads could work

    @mrdistraction Před 4 lety

    Placed an order for mine and I can't wait to get one. Question for you, for the bar that comes out to support the overhang over the ladder, do the holes that it comes out of expose the interior of the tent to bugs and such?

    • @OverlandAZ
      @OverlandAZ  Před 4 lety

      mrdistraction so there is an opening in the corners for the bar, but there is a flap on the inside for each one to cover the hole. No bugs!

    Nice review, been looking at the 2 person version recently. Heading to Engineer Pass in August, maybe we’ll run into those sheep lol. Where about on the trail is that spot? Been trying to find spots to disperse camp along that trail using google maps but it’s tough because of the top down angle to gauge what’s flat and what isn’t.

  • @dirty_hookerjeep_project5400

    Great video I was wondering if you had to waterproof the tent at all or does the rain fly keep it dry

    • @OverlandAZ
      @OverlandAZ  Před 4 lety +1

      dirty_hooker jeep_project no waterproofing needed! All the stitched seams are taped for waterproofing and the rainfly keeps it dry inside. Just be sure to use the flexible poles on the back of the rainfly so it’s stretched out over the tent if that makes sense

    Would it be safe to put a heat buddy in there during the cold winter?

    • @thepebblesexplore83
      @thepebblesexplore83 Před 4 měsíci

      We do. But I recommend like a backpacker table that is short to keep it up off the floor. Also don’t leave it unattended.
      I prefer a small butane heater. The heater buddy was a lot and propane leaves moisture that butane does not.

  • @tylerardrey3950

    What is the purpose of the tension cords that were stretched out while setting up the tent? Where can I get some of those?

    • @OverlandAZ
      @OverlandAZ  Před 4 lety

      Tyler Ardrey the cords inside the tent? They are just elastic straps with plastic hooks on the end. They help to pull the tent material inward when closing up the tent to make teardown a little easier 👍

  • @rhino2geaux
    @rhino2geaux Před 4 lety

    Nice review. Do you have a ladder extension? Do you think you need one? Would you recommend getting one for lifted vehicles?

    • @OverlandAZ
      @OverlandAZ  Před 4 lety +1

      Rhino2geaux we don’t have the extension, though we probably should. We’re on 35” tires and a 3” lift for reference. I drilled new holes in the ladder to extend it by about 3” which is all we really needed as long as we’re on flat ground. I wouldn’t recommend extending the ladder more than that or else it wouldn’t have enough support.

    You mentioned where it is legal to camp but I couldn’t understand what you said. Would you mind listing places where I can camp? You may have said BLM land or something like that.

    • @OverlandAZ
      @OverlandAZ  Před 3 lety

      BLM land, or Bureau of Land Management, state trust land and national forest lands are some of the places that you can find free dispersed camping. The best thing to do is look up the area you’ll be traveling and call their agency office or check their website to see their specific rules. For example, to camp in state trust land in Arizona, a permit is required, but in Utah you do not need a permit.

    Overlanding...all the nice stuff..travel, the beautiful places, the gears...nobody ever shows the awkward stuff tho, where do you go to do your own thing ? No washroom most of the time.. what do you do when it pours rain ? Nothing else but to stay in the tent.. I've never seen a video on youtube where they actually point at all the ugly thing involved with overlanding..

    • @OverlandAZ
      @OverlandAZ  Před 4 lety +3

      Alessandro Terracciano A shovel and the woods or a Home Depot bucket are all you really need for a bathroom. And when it rains, find cover under the awning, or in the annex. Keep a deck of cards or some other games your family enjoys that you can play in the tent. Some of my best memories growing up are playing Uno with my parents and sister in a rainy day at camp 👍 At the end of the day, it’s just camping 😁
