Kung Fu Panda 4 isn't a bad movie. It has a wonderful animation, strikingly awesome action sequences, a decent character development with Zhen, and gives a valid lesson about changing. The plot could've been better and the Chameleon, while she is an intimidating, scary, and cool villain because of her shapeshifting powers and her design which is very good, is underdeveloped and her motivation of being evil because of being rejected by her small size doesn't make sense by just looking at other characters like Mantis or Viper who are small but still managed to learn Kung Fu. She is a good villain in terms of visuals and power but still falls short in comparison with Lord Shen, who will always be the best villain of the entire franchise.
Overall, despite its flaws, the movie is quite enjoyable and a decent addition to the new trilogy.

I agree. Kung Fu Panda 4, while definitely being the worst of the four Kung Fu Panda films, is still a really really good film.
I did talk about how in my review I liked the Chameleon’s motivation and I still do stand by this. I liked how because the Chameleon was rejected from learning the one thing it really wanted to learn, in its case, Kung fu, it became a villain. I thought it was a great villainous drive. It just didn’t make sense to me why the Chameleon was rejected from learning Kung fu from its height as Mantis and Viper became Kung fu masters despite being short.
Personally, I hope that this film is the last instalment as I can’t see a logical path for what DreamWorks should do next but I am more than happy for them to prove me wrong as this is one of my favourite movie franchises.

It's true, the writing in Kung Fu Panda 4 could've been better, especially if Jennifer Yuh Nelson was directing. We can never forgive them for leaving out the Furious Five or for not bringing back Gary Oldman and JK Simmons to reprise their roles as Lord Shen and General Kai, even though they brought back Ian McShane to play Tai Lung. It was also unwise not to properly explore the Chameleon's tragic backstory thoroughly. Even so, I will defend this film as a worthy sequel

That’s fair. While I would have liked to see the Furious Five in the film, I understand that they weren’t needed for the story to function well. A quick cameo would have been nice. Not bringing Kai and Shen’s voice actors however disappointed me but I understand that DreamWorks doesn’t have the budget to bring these characters back.

@@TheGrinningCritic I think Tigress should've been in the film at the very least, and that Po should've chosen her as his successor. I like Zhen, I really do, but Tigress has been with Po through thick and thin

@@Alex-ng6hcWhile Tigress is a great character who I think would be worthy, Tigress already got her chance in the spotlight in Kung Fu Panda 3 so I don’t feel like it would have been fair to give her another film were she is a main supporting character. However, if the writers had written a compelling story for her, then I would have been down for Tigress to return.

Honestly, I do happen to have mixed opinions on this film, even I didn't understand the hate around it, I would have liked it much more if The Chameleon was more scary and has a more explored backstory, I also kinda wish they did more on Shifu and even the Furious Five. The OG villains didn't really even need to return to make this a good sequel either, just make The Chameleon as scary or even scarier than Shen. Overall, the film was okay.

I would have honestly loved it if The Chameleon was a scarier villain with a better explored backstory. I felt like Shifu was in the film for as long as he should have been but I would have liked it if the Furious Five had had a role in the movie. I don’t feel like they needed to be the main supporting cast of the movie like they were in the first two films but I would have liked it if they had had roughly the same level of importance that they did in Kung Fu Panda 3 in this film.

@@TheGrinningCritic Yeah like, The Chameleon is the main problem I have with the film, otherwise on paper, the film didn't use its max potential because of the Chameleon not being a scary character, otherwise if the Chameleon was as scary as Shen, the film would have been very good, especially since shapeshifters are impossible to write badly if they were scary, just that the film were focused heavily too much on jokes to the point where she is light-hearted.

Personally, I didn’t have the same experience. I’ll admit that some of the ideas could have been executed better but I would not call this film a poorly executed product. @@TheGrinningCritic Is _KFP4_ telling us Tigress is not good enough to be a Dragon Warrior, but some smug, thieving nobody is. Is the Dragon Warrior title only reserved for individuals who are never in anyway obvious of being worthy of it, or work for it? @@0deadx21 That’s a valid point. From my interpretation of the film, Zhen was chosen to become the dragon warrior because she proved herself to be worthy of the title due to the good deeds she had done to Po. Also, Zhen was no longer a criminal by the end of the film as she stopped being a thief and learnt from the mistakes which she had made in the past.
