    We’ve had our rexton for 16 months. Purchased the ultimate and we love it. Ironman suspension on cruises like a beast. Have had it down to 7.9 litre per 100 on the highway. Admittedly doing around 100-105. The 8 speed is the same gearbox in the Genesis, smooth as butter and cruises like a limousine.
    Very quiet with literally no road noise. I’m a satisfied buyer and understand why Ssangyong have blasted their all time sales records off the roof. What a car!!!

      @tacorevenge87 I too have just bought a rexton and I think it's brilliant also. The only real issue is the lack of ground clearance particularly the front bumper. Have you made any alterations to yours? I'm considering a bullbar that will improve the issue with the bumper as it should finish up with greater clearance beneath it. Do you have any thoughts regarding this? Cheers!

    I’ve lived and breathed 4wding for 30yrs. Round Oz twice in a 40 series including bashing it down the Canning Stock route. I’d take independent rear suspension over a solid anyday of the week - especially given the size of the tyres on these rigs. The benefit would far outweigh the most minuscule advantage - if any - on something like this. And you only have to look at the patrol - all independent. And given this has an Eaton locker in the rear it’s a win win all the way. 7 yr unlimited warranty towing 3.5 ton…game changer. Great to see airbags for the third row also

  • @electropad
    @electropad Před 10 měsíci +26

    The Rexton does have a rear locker. It can not be switched on unfortunately. It has to spin to engage automatically, kind of like traction control. You can see it engage at 8:15

  • @ianweal3081
    @ianweal3081 Před 10 měsíci +6

    Ha Sam, I was of the understanding the rear diff on the current rexton series was an auto locker and going on the footage in the video it appears so as the wheel just spins, then wack, its locked and you're advancing forward, your lurching description.
    Worth while following up, no, there is not a selectable rear diff lock, but once slip is detected the auto locker appears to cut in.
    The 8 speed trannie is a big plus over the Musso 6 speed also, offering a better driving response.

    • @robertlittle2356

      The 8 speed auto transmission is a Hyundai unit...Solid.
      A lot of the peripheral gear around the engine is also from Hyundai, eg. the Mass Airflow Sensor.
      The rear differential is a Auto Locker. It engages when the wheel without traction (spinning) reaches 100 rpm.

    Thanks for a very considered and honest review. I am considering this very strongly, although my wife - who like you is just under 6' tall (by 12 inches!😉) - finds it difficult to get into and out of. Pajero sport and the like all feature a grab-handle on the A-pillar which is immensely helpful. I tend to agree with all you've said, and your off-road testing is way beyond anything I'd put it to: I went along a track last year that was badly-rutted in my Outback, and though I got along it without dramas, I would have preferred a little more off-road ability. Hopefully, the 2024 model will feature adaptive cruise control, and a few safety features that are currently absent. I found it very pleasant to drive and think as a long-distance vehicle it might well prove excellent. Looking at comments below, those who have one truly enjoy their ownership experience.

    What were your thoughts on the stereo?

    • @simmo6429
      @simmo6429 Před 10 měsíci +2

      No problem with the screen, picked up my ultimate in January this year and it’s brilliant. Had an LC200 before it, and while it’s not in the same class it’s certainly brilliant value for less than half the cost. Took the Ironman suspension, Drives well, very very quiet power is comparable with Fortuner. They have come a long way. Very very happy customer.

      I was driving this at the same time as the GWM Ute (video is also up), and I can remember this being okay in terms of sound quality while the GWM was quite poor. I didn't note any sunlight issues, and not sure about the floor load capacity I'm sorry!

    • @SEK78429
      @SEK78429 Před 10 měsíci +2

      I think the removable floor load capacity is around 50kg. It really is just a piece of plastic wrapped in the floor carpet fabric and sits nicely. It can be removed in 2 seconds. If I have something heavier I take it out and use the boot base.

    Interesting proposition. For a daily 7 seater to get the kids to school and go to the beach on weekends it's appealing especially from the nice presentation of the vehicle. However while it may be cheaper up front, one has to question the resale value of a car like this compared to a Isuzu Mux or even a hyandai santa fe, and when you crunch the numbers overall I'd say that the other well established brands would probably come out better value for money. It looks awesome though, has that 300 series front end headlight thing going on.

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  Před 9 měsíci +1

      It's true that the established brand names are going to have a better resale value but for buyers looking to enter the market at a reasonable price point and without having to endure the sometimes lengthy wait times, it can make for a great alternative. We do love that 300 styling!

      @@Drivecomau If anyone else has a missus like mine they trash the living hell out of their daily cars, especially when toddlers and newborns are involved. @Drivecomau  Před 15 dny

      In our experience not every user is the same. While most may carry kids in the third row, often families with two child seats in the second row may need to carry adult family members in the third row. It's a lot easier to seat two adults in the rear than it is to relocate two child seats.

    • @carsella11
      @carsella11 Před 15 dny

      @@Drivecomau That argument doesn’t hold water I’m afraid. If you have 2 car seats in the second row, nobody but another child is going to be getting through that gap and accessing the 3rd row (without removing those child seats) in any 7 seat SUV. You’d be better off finding a couple of kids to be part of your review to sit in the 3rd row to see how they fit. Or child mannequins which could prove really quite objective as you could measure head/hip/knee room.
