Alistair Campbell explores an interesting perspective on depression.
Alastair is best known for his role as Tony Blair’s formidable and often contentious spin doctor, but, away from the public eye, he has been dogged by crippling bouts of depression for most of his life. Some days, just getting out of bed is too hard. Therapy and anti-depressant medication is helping him keep his head above water, but is that really the best he can hope for?
Encouraged by his family, Alastair sets out on a journey to explore if cutting edge science can offer him - and the millions of people like him - the hope of one day living depression-free. As he tries to understand his depression better, he also reflects on key events in his life and asks if they could have had a negative effect on his mind.

It seems you are now tuned in to yourself more closely and I love that you don’t beat yourself up for a moment of downward spiralling. • @PeteS_1994
      @PeteS_1994 Pƙed 3 lety

I think it’s complicated and nuanced. Why are some people affected more? It’s partly temperament but I would think it’s also how they are able to get in with others, social support and life experience. It’s also how they react to the situation I think. If they take in the situation but have no outlet, it affects them worse.

I have a genetic issues with anxiety disorders, it's been in the family for a long time.
For example, OCD is very common in my extended family.
Depression like anxiety are at least partially physiological, ie there is something fundamentally different about how our chemicals/system functions compared to different families.
With more intense issues like psychopathy you can actually see differences in their brain structures, less so for other disorders.

Your genetic results and environmental stress still cause the depression, it doesnt go away and since you know it wont go away you are trying to do positive isolations to cover it, to ignore it for a limited time. You ll always know if you stop fighting, if you stop running from it, it will come up stronger. What if one day you feel exhausted and what if you feel like you cant go on more, you cant fight it. I dont know i think its pointless i dont want to walk with this load on me till i stop, knowing this doesnt pay-off, no future in it.

Ps. the advise they give there i belive will help you feel better right away. You need to start supporting your body with the "core four" vit c, e, zinc and magnesium. You can take vit c 1gm every few hours now until you feel better. Also Alka seltzer gold, ginger (in any form, tea etc.) and 100 mcg selenium can help right away. Adrenal cortex (like the one from Thorne) can also help a great deal by supporting your adrenals when your body is under stress. And there is a lot of other helpful advise that will be even more specific to your case by the veterans of the group, so please join and post your situation there. If you have any questions, please let me know. There is also a depression file in the group that I cannot share here, but it has a lot of info on what you can take further to help you feel better. One is lithium orotate.

Genes load the gun, the enviroment pulls the trigger, the environment leads to the expression of these genes. If you had a full breakdown of your genome, you’d see which genes increase your risk the most for a given mental illness, the brain is an organ, so of course genetics will impact its function, just like genes influence your risk for kidney disease or other illnesses. Once you have this full breakdown of genes, you can target the genes which are predisposing you to mental illness, for example the TPH2 gene is responsible for synthesising seretonin in the brain, a mutation in this gene causes less seretonin signalling, thus less plasticity in the brain, a good way to bypass this gene would be to take extended release 5HTP or probiotics for gut health.

Campbell obviously finds it difficult to live with himself, given all of his lies to the British public under Tony Blair's Labour Govmt. But rather than admit to the terrible things which he knows he's done, he's conveniently rebranded these crimes as 'Depression'. Clearly though, he'll never be absolved of these issues, not while he's still the 'Master of Spin'. He's still at it and at this point deserves all he gets. No honesty, no healing - and I have no pity.
This is nothing more than a man with a guilty conscience who cannot live with himself. His actions, his problem.

I would really recommend reading about Andrew Cutler's work, it is often an underlying issue, and very rarely talked bout. You can maybe start by readign the success stories that comes up when you google Andy Cutler and I would very much recommend reading the article by Rebecca Lee about Cutler on the Weston Price web. The article explains a lot of his work quite well, but I would also recommend joining the Facebook group as there are support and formation there in addition to peoples experience,. Wish you all the best

Alistair do you think that all the parents of the 500,000 kids that died in Iraq after you spun the lies to facilitate bombing them are depressed??

The guilt of a very bad man. This isn't genuine depression, but rather a man with guilt written all over him. The only time he declared 'mental health issues' was when he started losing political control. He was only ever in politics to WIN, and now as it turns out, he assumes the label of 'Depression'. I don't feel sorry for someone whose terminally guilt-ridden. That's his own fault. Nobody made him into the self-seeking, revolting 'spin-doctor' that he was when power was his.
He chose that himself and he's still lying. There's no prescription for guilt.
    What a terrible individual.

The jar analogy is such reductioness garbage. We are going to look back at psychology and mental health practices 200 years from now and realize how absolutely ignorant and we were. We literally have no idea how consciousness works, barely understand how our brain's work and yet we sit here and say these things with absolutely certainty. The depression I'm facing now has nothing to do with circumstances, it has nothing to do with exercise, social circumstances, nutrition or anything. Not that my situation is common by any means, but I took 1 dose of magic mushrooms and in one moment it changed me from being the happiest, joyous person who loved me outside, worked out everyday ect into a person who begs to die everyday from horrifying depression, anxiety and feeling completed seperated from reality. No doctors, drugs, therapy, etc have done anything to help..it did not "unlock" some hidden mental health condition. I had perfect conditions for experience, etc..the point is, we have no clue what is happening in our brains and why people end up with their mental health problems. The DSM is not science, we look at symptoms and hear people explain symptoms and then slap a made up label on something that is much more complicated than we have any idea about. No tests, no hard data. We live in the dark ages.

@ciarandevaney385 because when you realise that there are groups of narcissists/demons/witches DELIBERATELY baiting you with blame shifting and gaslighting, reactive abuse etc you're told even by doctors that it's you, but when you remove yourself from toxic individuals all of a sudden you're healing.

There's a plethora of studies, including twin studies, that show the impact of heritability on depression and other disorders. Perhaps it's time to revise your opinion
