Many will point to the fact that the car has a higher top speed, which led to a faster lap time. But in fact, only 2 seconds were gained over the back straight. The other 8 seconds gained were most likely from the R compound semi slick tires, and better braking performance. Credit to where credit is due. They've made great improvements to the car to make it withstand the track. 10 years ago, a Model S down the back straight would have throttled its power down to just 120kw, at which the car would be passed by a Golf Gti. Instead here, the Model S hits 260kph at the Audi Gantry. In comparison the Panorama Turbo S was going at just 228kph at that point, 260kph for the gt2rs. Is the Model S a great track car now? of course not, it's still too heavy, and it doesn't look like the driver here is having much fun, but again, not like a GT63SE is much fun to drive on track either. I'm just happy that manufacturers keep trying to make cars not for just A to B driving, but also for A to A.

Not true. The regular tesla model s plaid posted a 7:35 .. the taycan turbo s posted a 7:33 .. porsche beat the plaid when both used street tires . tesla "Track pack" cheated it had to use track tire semi slicks (GoodYear Eagle F1 SuperCar 3Rs) that are only used for track times not for street use to beat the porsche taycan, panamera turbo s, m5cs,m3cs, and some other 4 door sedans that all used STREET TIRES. The tesla plaid has 1,000hp and the other cars i named have 400hp less then the plaid. Yet when they all used street tires those cars beat it. The semi slicks on the track pack plaid alone shaves off 10-15 sec. The track pack then posted a 7:25
Think how embarrassing that is that a car with 1000hp couldn't beat a 400hp less taycan. BMW/Porsche design and handling is on another planet.

@@G82WattsI dont really know which cars have 1000 hp but I do remember the iconic Bugatti Veyron having 1k hp. That car is considerably lighter than this thing but still took 7:40 to complete a lap, and I also remember the Veyron having Special tires that cost about half the price of an entire tesla, so I'd hope those tires would at least be equal to what is used on this car.
If the 2.2 ton electric family sedan which happens to have 1k HP did terrible @ 7:25,
Then how would you call the 7:40 which the 1.9 ton 1k HP 2-seater hypercar achieved?

How is hearing that cool 😂😂 u people are weird af.
Elon did a marketing stunt with this as usual. The regular tesla model s plaid posted a 7:35 .. the taycan turbo s posted a 7:33 .. porsche beat the plaid when both used street tires . tesla "Track pack" cheated it had to use track tire semi slicks (GoodYear Eagle SuperCar 3Rs) that are only used for track times not for street use to beat the porsche taycan, panamera turbo s, m5cs,m3cs, and some other 4 door sedans that all used STREET TIRES.

On tires from the Track pack, if Dad is stopped by the German police, the car cannot continue. And continue by train or bus, or buy other tires.
If dad is lucky and he doesn't meet the police, the technician won't let you on the circuit if there is TF (public rides). So the river would have small changes...
But your version is definitely funnier
I've already seen a few cars drive over 500km there and not be allowed on the circuit.
So they went home again. They returned in about 20 minutes. 200m from the Policie ring road - the car cannot continue, 400 euro fine.

Tesla's stability control is also relatively minimal, and the amount is adjustable (did you adjust it?), but Lotus, Porsche, etc., may to more to make it less noticeable since they are more track/performance oriented cars.

This is a full sized suv. Taycan is a 4 door 911 basically and has the range of a flies life. Battery is 178 miles lol. Tesla is 350 miles. Im a Porsche guy thru and thru but this is hella disingenuous to say. Roadster or even model s in a plaid formation would be a better comparison.

I don't know it was my imagination but I think I could see a bunch of less ideal driving maneuvers in the beginning and then the driver "warmed up" and used the extensions of the road only if necessary. So cool that the stress of the wheels doesn't get covered by the engine noise and you can hear how much the tires have to handle getting this heavy battery pack around corners.
It looks like driving such a heavy car needs very different driving skills than a light an annoying combustion engine powered car. Funny to see a Plaid with a round steering wheel ... would definitely also be my preference when racing, because if it gets out of control you have no chance to stabilize it with a yoke. I think there was quite some potential to gain a few extra seconds, especially in the beginning, but I would also not go too close to the limit with such a fantastic car that is also your daily driver.
Thanks for sharing - pretty amazing!

that's awesome I saw the old model s plaid at Petersen museum and I just drove my friend's unplugged performance model s plaid with the big brake kits and its fantastic so I think the ceramic brakes on the new S will be incredible for track and 7:25.2 is excellent that's next to the 991 gt3, Aventador, 812 superfast and Zonda F

As an example #1 - The Mercedes AMG One - Total production: 275 hand built units at a price of USD $2.72 million per unit, all of which have been already sold. Tesla is going for fastest, mass produced car - and oh, the price is less than 1/20 of the AMG. Both cars are super impressive in my book, though.

Not true.

Congrats Tesla. I've been happy with our Tesla M3 that we purchased back in 2018, has 65k miles on it now. No maintenance other than tires once and new air filters. Home solar panels power the primary home and the Tesla. No wasting time and money paying for gas or home utilities. Love being energy independent and not supporting the oil industry with their record profits (price gouging) and ME wars.

Don't forget, the batteries are mined from mines that use by haul trucks with big combustion engines. Don't forget about the transportation used for delivering those battery materials. Not to mention the plastic used in the interior that is derived from petroleum. You're still technically supporting those oil companies indirectly. If you really don't want to support those oil companies, don't drive anything. Just walk.
