    Guys, I'd like to say something whether you see this or not. Alex speaks in her videos how she still does ballet at home as much as she can, and she is in art school. She has received many comments as to why she quit and in a few of her videos she explains that she does not feel ready to share the reason. We should respect her reasons and wait until she requests a fitting with Josephine. Thank you.💕
    Edit**
    She may also have a traumatic experience regarding it too. (Also thank you for reading and understanding💕)

    • @shaldana
      @shaldana Před 2 lety +47

      @@Kaalokalawaia No, it's not sad. It's never sad when someone acknowledges that they need a break - regardless of the reason, which is no one else's business - instead of keeping pushing when they shouldn't be, to the point of detrimental harm. Celebrate victories where they are. It is not shameful or sad to admit it's time to step back, it's actually very courageous and should be cheered.

    • @labellelace
      @labellelace Před 2 lety +25

      @@shaldana it’s just sad that she felt that she had to step back, after clearly dedicating so much time to the art form over her lifetime. I do agree that she shouldn’t feel forced to return to ballet just because of that time, however especially if her stepping back had something to do with the toxic parts of the industry that still exist, it’s a shame that she was a victim of that especially, or even just of burn out towards something that she clearly once loved. So as the original reply said, I hope that she can find joy in dancing again, even if it is just for herself.

      Dance seems to be incredibly personal and it makes sense because you give up massive chunks of your youth and an insane amount of physical, mental, and emotional energy, etc etc etc... it's never a light decision whether to stay or go. It's not like they woke up one morning and just forgot about it. So yeah idk it feels kind of obvious to not ask athletes about the "why"s. It's never our business.

    I broke my leg 17 years ago in a very misguided dance rehearsal rehearsal at uni, studying performing arts, on point on my left leg. I can still turn out and do basic things but it actually didn’t end with the broken leg- I got nerves involved and have had debilitating chronic pain ever since. There’s a very very good reason why Josephine reacts the way she does on videos out of pure fear at peoples feet.

    When you mentioned that the first time you used the roller you experienced some level of pain, well, that is 100% normal. To share, I had run three marathons and regularly had massages, but my IT bands would really tighten up... so after about 16 miles, my upper legs felt like they had been hit by a sledge hammer, which is not the best feeling when you have 10 miles left to run!
    Just a few days before my 4th marathon, my massage therapist had me try the roller. That was excruciating, but after two days, that roller didn't hurt nearly as much, and it flattened out my IT bands. That was the first marathon that I ran very well the last 10 miles, for which my definition of "very well" means that I didn't look like I suffered from a neurological disorder!
    If you are dancing or involved with any kind of exercise, try the roller for 10-30 seconds on your quads and the sides of your thighs, twice per day. Likely within 72 hours things will feel much, much better.
    BTW, I did perform with the ABT and Joffrey Ballet, but.....thank goodness I was playing the violin! Oh Lord, if I were dancing....somebody, most likely me, would be injured!
    Even though I have no dancing background, I enjoy your videos because you are just such a nice and fun lady, with all kinds of great positive energy. I wish you the very best with all that you do.

Back in the day when I was taking dance (175 years ago lol), they put us (guys) in point shoes so we could get a sense of our partner's challenges (balance and the like). • @ReyOfLight
      @ReyOfLight Před 2 lety +3

      As someone with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, I can only agree! It’s sad when people are pushed to become even more hypermobile in ballet or gymnastics because that extreme ROM is “desirable” and pretty. While it may not cause as many issues in individuals who are just hypermobile without any medical condition behind it, it still causes a lot more wear and tear on your body compared to being within normal ranges, and regardless of how strong you are, our bodies aren’t made to be hyperextended. When I stand normally (as in my normal) my knees are about 15 degrees hyperextended and I don’t know how many times through the years I’ve hurt my knees because of it, because of just losing control of my leg(s) while walking and having my knee(s) just crack backwards or something. As much as I wanted to try ballet growing up, and kinda still want to try it at almost 37, I’m kinda glad now that I never pursued dancing while I was much younger because who knows what injuries I could be dealing with now if I had done all the stretching and whatnot that dancers do...

    I watched this video some while back and I agree,she is hilarious! And that she doesn't look like somebody who's been away from dancing for a year,her legs,her feet,omg!!! I have to wonder why she stopped dancing.Pain? Being too much of a perfectionist? Obsessive perfectionism?(that's done a number on me where some of my talents lay).If she's happier not dancing,I understand completely,but it still seems a shame;her legs,feet,flexibility,are all so wonderful.Beautiful.

      She still dances, just not professionally. She said she wasn’t ready to stage why she quit.

      @@Urmom-ts8gp Ah,okay,thanks for the info!There could be a number of reasons for her decision and if she's not ready to talk about it that should absolutely be respected.I'm glad to hear that she does still dance,that her experiences haven't ruined that for her.Dancing should be a joy,not a source of stress and unhappiness.

    Hey Josephine,
    Quick recommendation...
    Have a look at getting you audio balances better.
    Your Audio is way higher than the video you are editing into yours.
    Particularly if your audience is wearing headphones, we turn up the sound to hear the featured video properly, then you blow our ears out by having your audio set much higher.
    Definitely a technical feature you need to correct.
