Did you all know that the fall leaf colors are the true colors of the leaves and that the green is the presence of chlorophyll until it is stopped in the life cycle of the leaves in the fall. Just a small factoid for you on this wonderful fall day. Great video!
You should consider making a Cedar Tub for you off grid homestead. I have seen lots of people make them. Great Work as always.
Do you know the color you see is not the color of the leaves? It's the color that is reflected from the leaves.
Also the fall leaf color has to do with the chemical makeup within the leaf, affecting the light ratio reflected and absorbed.
Cool factoid. I just kearned that about 3 weeks ago. Never knew that about leaf color.

Everything is so beautiful! I watched this morning (very early) while still in bed (I am retired). The laptop on my knees and my little dog curled up beside me. Once in a while, he would raise his head at the sounds coming from the video and give me a little ruff-ruff. I think Bilou really enjoyed it too! I live by a river and this morning, I heard a flock of geese flying over the house (it is autumn after all). It all seemed surreal. Life is beautiful.
My kitty gets in my lap and watches Shawn's videos intently with me.
It's one of our regular daytime/nighttime activities together :-).
Sometimes I have to keep moving her over to get her out of my way, LOL.

@@sicooper4230 Well, he made it through the surgery! The Vet is keeping him overnight to keep his movements restricted and monitor his pain level and they can give him pain meds quickly when needed. I am sure his little eye is very swollen, the best medicine is sleep for him right now! Thanks for caring!

I always enjoyed building things, the amount of time just don't matter. It's the end result that your looking for. I would get into the building and forget about the food. At least my dog would eat good. Shawn I enjoy your taking time to go walking and showing us the area that you see
through the camera. I know it takes time to film the area, moving the camera, going back and forth to get and move it around. I didn't realize how much time is involved in the editing process until a boy told us how much time he spends to edit and download to YTUBE. NEW SKILL SHOWN: SHARPENING AN AUGER. What an hilarious sequence with Calie and her retrieving tool! When it comes to working with her 'it is all in the wrist.' The 'old misdirection play' keeps her sharp. I am always amazed by how quickly she reacts to wherever you have sent it. Superlative images as always. WOW!

Just to be at a place like this and put hand on wood and the best companion any man could have is all bliss !
Shawn, you need to take a recommendation from a Finnish person: Warm the sauna up to 80-100 degrees, be there as long as you can. It helps to bend a bit so you can breathe the colder air (heat goes up). Then go outside on your new porch and sit down and let the body cool down. Then repeat. That is how we finns go to sauna and it really relaxes your muscles and cleanses your body when you take a good sweat in 80-100 degrees Celsius

When growing up, I used to go to sauna at our cottage with my grandpa. Back in those days he told me that "anything below 80 is where women bathe" and it was true. My mom and grandma went to sauna when it was around 70-75 and after that me, dad and grandpa went there and it was usually around 80-90degrees. But I have experienced 100 C and it's quite extreme. You can be there for a few minutes before you need to go out to get fresh air and cool down. But there is no other feeling in the world when you go to the porch with only a towel on and your skin is steaming and the cool summer or winter air cools you down. We also jump from a ~100 C sauna to snow or a frozen lake... Finns eh? ;D
From Wikipedia: Under many circumstances, temperatures approaching and exceeding 100 °C (212 °F) would be completely intolerable and possibly fatal if exposed to long periods of time. Saunas overcome this problem by controlling the humidity. The hottest Finnish saunas have relatively low humidity levels in which steam is generated by pouring water on the hot stones. This allows air temperatures that could boil water to be tolerated and even enjoyed for longer periods of time. Steam baths, such as the Turkish bath, where the humidity approaches 100%, will be set to a much lower temperature of around 40 °C (104 °F) to compensate. The "wet heat" would cause scalding if the temperature were set much higher.
In a typical Finnish sauna, the temperature of the air, the room and the benches is above the dew point even when water is thrown on the hot stones and vaporized. Thus, they remain dry. In contrast, the sauna bathers are at about 38 °C (100 °F), which is below the dew point, so that water is condensed on the bathers' skin. This process releases heat and makes the steam feel hot.
@JOOGAL1111 The secret is in the amount of moisture in the air. If you see a finnish Sauna in your neighbourhood (there are some around the world) go and try. It's amazing.

Greetings, I always watch your videos. I ask you if you save the ashes from the oven and the fire from the stove? That ash is very useful for the garden, howls pests and fertilization of plants and also serves to clean the kitchen pots.

I love how you show the moments where you take care of your tools. A lot of people in the modern age just sorta...assume...that chisels and saws and drill bits remain sharp forever & ever. They might know that knives (mostly kitchen) need sharpening, or maybe axes...but they might not think about it at all. So it's great to see these steps taken every so often to keep things sharp and rust-free, well-oiled, and functional.

It is just amazing how everything is coming together it is determination. This is so relaxing my father could do carpentry and masonry work. He to would make some of his own tools as well.
