  • Settle in for a 25 min step-by-step on how to drop the engine, gearbox, subframe and suspension out the bottom of your MX5. Time consuming, but soooooooo satisfying when you roll it out on the front wheels!
    This is preparation work for the Rocketeer V6 conversion.

    Awesome project! I am looking forward to seeing the Jaguar engine go in! And even more to your driving videos! All the best! Rob in Switzerland (NC owner).

    Best video yet, talking and wrenching, no time lapse, soundtrack-but low volume. Shiny!

    I took the plunge with the kit over Christmas and i am expecting one of the next batch in March/April, cannot wait! I recently dropped my 1.8 engine out. I did it slightly differently, dropped it onto a home made trolley with a crane and left my struts connected to which i cable tied my brake calipers. I also left my power steering pump and rack in the car tied up so i didn't have to drain the system. Keep the videos coming.

      Nice approach. I'm glad I took the rack out to be honest as I gave it a clean up, and am replacing the tie rods and rack gaiters. Had quite a bit of trouble sourcing gators that fit. You'll see it in my next video.

    You made taking off that PPF look so easy! I already did it and i am so glad I don't have to do it for the first time again :D
    Edit: just realized i did it on the diff side and now i have to do it in the front

    The great part about this kit is how many of the ancillaries are maintained from the MX-5, making replacement parts sourcing incredibly easy, even compared against the FoMoCo related vehicles like the Jaguar.

    • @Jazda
      @Jazda  Před 2 lety +1

      Exactly. This is one of the main reasons I chose the kit - there are very few custom parts and everything is either from the Jag engine or Mazda engine. Also, keeping the MX5 gearbox, prop shaft, diff, drive shafts and hubs makes the swap a lot easier and cheaper.

    Nice work, seeing your build makes me want to do one myself, always wanted a mx5 but with more power

      Plus the V6 used here sounds much angrier than it is. Sounds almost like a pony car, but with a smoother idle.

    I need to do this soon on my 92 parts car (to salvage clutch FW and tranny) , I must do it outside in the tropical Okinawan heat though (walking out the door of our air-conditioned apartment feels like walking into a cranking sauna + it's in the sun) , best video for this ...thanks mate. Oh I see you wearing long sleeves & I wish I even had a car port or a cover from the sun but its gonna be pure friggin punishment. Funny thing is garages are rare in Japan , most houses are built without em ...

    Are you going to do a video about all the electrical modifications required ?

    • @Jazda
      @Jazda  Před 5 lety +1

      Yes. The kit comes with a complete loom, so hoping it'll be fairly straightforward!

  • @davidoff59
    @davidoff59 Před 3 lety +1

    I'm impressed that little 12v driver loosed all those bolts. Did you have to loosen some first with an impact driver?

    • @Jazda
      @Jazda  Před 3 lety +1

      Cracked them open first manually with a short breaker bar. The 12v ratchet hasn't got much torque at all, but is still handy.

    Well if you just need to pull the engine, there's no reason to take off the bumper, headlights, the lines from the power steering pump. I'd take the radiator out but not the condenser. I put a piece of plywood between it and the engine to protect it. I've got a 1.6 '90 miata, engine needs to come out due to oil pump/oil pan oil leak. I've had this engine out before when I overhauled it. The subframe could be pulled for this job but it's just as much work, maybe more.

    I know this is an older video. But what Interior is in here. The dark brown is nice. Is it custom or ordered from somewhere??

    • @Jazda
      @Jazda  Před 2 lety

      The seats are from one of the many special edition mk2 MX5's, called the Phoenix edition (mk2.5). I trimmed the centre arm rest to match the seats myself. I also had brown mk1 mats from some other special edition - I can't remember the one... maybe a Nardi edition?

    How high off the ground was the car for you go be able to drop the engine like that? I might use this method myself as I already have the car on jack stands

    • @TheIvabigun

    • @Jazda
      @Jazda  Před 4 lety

      7 dollars 💵 . Seriously though, I have no idea. It depends on the mechanic labour costs where you live (I'm in Ireland) and this was my first time doing something like this so a proper mechanic would get it done in a quarter of the time.

    don't use aftermarket motor mounts. you will regret it

    • @Jazda
      @Jazda  Před 5 lety +1

      You could argue they aren't aftermarket, as they are genuine Mazda parts, just the Mazdaspeed version. Never tried them before so you could be right, but this isn't my daily driver.
