  • NEW VAULT SESSIONS: Marcus & Marvin King
In this episode, Marcus King and his father, bluesman, Marvin King swap licks and talk about their influences and their family’s heirloom guitar, a Gibson 345 affectionally named “Big Red”.
There is a staggering list of guitars and amps used in this episode- 1958 Gibson Les Paul Burst, 1952 Copper Fender Esquire, 1957 Aqua? (a one-of-a-kind color) Fender Stratocaster, 1958 Natural Korina Gibson Flying V, 1977 Dumble Overdrive Special, and Todd Sharp JOAT20- all of which are on display at the Songbirds Guitar Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
These sessions also help keep the music alive by helping the Songbirds Foundation raise money to buy guitars for kids…check out our page to find out more.
Thanks to our sponsors- The Riverview Foundation, Schillhahn-Huskey Foundation, GHS Strings, GoGo Tuners, and Todd Sharp Amplifiers. Special thanks to John Dooley for the great video work.
WE HAVE SOME BIG SESSIONS COMING SOON: Lee Roy Parnell, Gangstagrass, Junior Brown, Amanda Shires, Larkin Poe, and more Moon River Sessions. Subscribe for more!

Marvin used to give me guitar lessons when I was a teenager. He really is a humble, compassionate, caring man who loves guitar and life. I had the pleasure of playing with both Marvin and Marcus in their church's coffee house on a couple of occasions back when Marcus was like 10-11 years old. He was always so quiet and meticulous about his playing. I'm super proud the musician he has become. What a stellar artist both Marcus and the legend Marvin King!

Any good player can make a Squier sound good as i am sure you are aware. That does not make it sound like a Korina body V or a light weight mahogany Les Paul with a maple top. Obviously the pickups are different and one has a bolt on neck and the others are set necks. 25 1/2 scale vs 24 3/4. The hardware is better quality on the US guitars and will last longer also. For what its worth, play what you have and let it sing from your heart.
