    KRØDERBANEN
    Norway's longest heritage railway
Krøderbanen, which opened in 1872, is one of Norway's oldest railways. Originally a narrow gauge railway, it was rebuilt as a standard gauge train line in connection with the opening of the Bergen railway in 1909. Krøderbanen remained virtually unchanged until it was closed by Norway's state railways (NSB) in 1985. Since then, it has been operated as a heritage railway by the associations Norsk Jernbaneklubb and Stiftelsen Krøderbanen.
The vintage trains are run with steam locomotives, teak-clad passenger carriages and engines from the 1950s. Krøderbanen is also a centre for the restoration and maintenance of museum railway equipment. Vikersund station has a ticket office, museum exhibition and souvenir shop. Vikersund is also a regular station on the Oslo-Bergen line. Krøderen station is listed as a technical heritage sight. Here you will find all the installations from the age of the steam engine. You can buy refreshments from the railway cafe or wander around the grounds and absorb the ambience of times gone by. During the railway's operating season, Krøderen station is open every day except Mondays. The station has an exhibition, a kiosk and a souvenir shop, so that you can explore the museum when there are no trains.
    When do the trains run?
Krøderbanen's open vintage trains run every Sunday from the last Sunday in June until the last Sunday in August. Trains may also run on other days during special events.
    Where does the journey begin?
Most people board the train at Krøderen or Vikersund station, but is possible to disembark along the way at Kløftefoss, Snarum and Sysle. You can choose if you want a single or return journey. You can return to you starting point on all departures except the last train of the day.
