He's so powerful and so gentle at the same time. The fact he fights doesn't make him less of a gentle person, even with those fights he's kind, having even thrown a senzu bean to a villain once to make sure the fight was fair because he's so nice it's practically unhealthy for him. It's a difficult thing to explain
The fact Goku literally threatened to kill Supreme Kai if he didn't move is fucking awesome. The shock on everyone's face, even Majin Vegeta's, Goku was legit gonna do it, everyone was so caught off guard.

Yeah. Goku's brief interaction with his son Gohan before he grabs Piccolo and flees to safety demonstrates two things. One is that even as he was losing it, Goku still loves Gohan and wants him along with everyone else that he loves to be safe at all costs. Two is that Goku has become so vengeful and bloodthirsty, that he couldn't even trust himself around his own son anymore and was worried that he might accidentally hurt him. And he was right to be worried, considering what happened to his grandfather.

There was that one time he punched him right in the face and told him if he left, he would die (from the enemy)
It actually brings a tear to my eye, to watch Goku try to deal with these extreme, sad emotions. To experience these losses, and have no idea what to do but just let it out. It’s amazing to watch, because RIGHT before he shows us why he is the GOAT, we see a very vulnerable person experience pain at a visceral level. And then, when he finally releases those feelings, we are reminded exactly why Goku is the protagonist of our entire generation: the saiyan who was born with no particularly strong attributes. He was just a boy who was nurtured correctly, and at the VERY end of all of it, he became a man who rival gods who are strong enough to destroy multiverses. He may be excited by fighting, thinking that it’s fun to spar. But Jesus Christ, when you push it too far, you WILL pay

Kid Goku was more dangerous and merciless when he was angry. He was ready to kill anyone who harmed anyone he loved. He was only taught mercy and compassion after his 3 year training in isolation with Kami. Before that, he had no problem killing anyone who was even so much a threat to his friends and loved ones. And that’s just when he was in control. Let’s not forget, he still had his tail back then too. Obviously he was far weaker as a child, but he embodied a saiyan’s ruthlessness far more back then, even if he was ultimately still a good person.

@@hoohoo431 He never wanted to kill anyone, that’s true but he showed no hesitation in doing so if his enemies harmed anyone close to him. King Piccolo and a few of his minions met their end because of him and he thought he killed mercenary Tao until he met him again as an adult several years later. He was also about to ruthlessly kill his red ribbon enemies until Android 8 stopped him before he could do it.
He showed much less restraint as a child, even if he’d rather not kill anyone in the first place. His reasoning behind being more willing to kill his foes was that he was concerned they’d continue to hurt people if he let them go. It was Android 8 and Kami that reminded him that giving in to his anger made Goku no different than his enemies. Goku as an adult would never consider killing anyone, even at the risk of them harming anyone else if he let them go. Kid Goku on the other hand didn’t wait around for that to happen. It’s very good character development.
Well, there is when he went Super Saiyan against Freiza. Hell, he could have beaten Frieza quickly and escaped with several minutes to spare, but he absolutely brutalized Frieza and dragged the fight out. Not for a challenge, but to basically torment Frieza both physically and psychologically; show that the "almghty emperor" was felled by a "worthless monkey". And while he did spare Frieza after he was bisected, I believe Goku spared him both because he refuses to kill an opponent that can no longer fight back and because he wanted Frieza to live with the shame of losing to a monkey for the rest of his life. And we learn from Trunks that Goku was supposed to kill Frieza and King Cold when the arrived on Earth.
Seriously, watch Goku's fight with Frieza. He is pretty damn brutal against him, wanting to make Frieza pay for killing his best friend.

That’s not to say that he wasn’t angry with frieza for what he did though. It takes a lot to be considered a more heinous villain than frieza but goku black and zamasu actually pulled it off by becoming the most heinous villains of the entire franchise

I gotta give Supreme Kai props for at least trying to stop what was about to happen. He knew it was stupid and reckless, and that they would just be playing right into Bobidi's hands, and I'm sure even he knew deep down that he didn't stand a snowball's chance in hell of stopping the fight, but at least he gave it his best effort. It ultimately came up short, and he ended up backing down, but he did try.

He hoped frieza would remain broken after suffering the humiliation of defeat via an "inferior race" but Frieza decided to take one last desperation shot at Goku. This angered Goku leading to his retaliation and supposed killing of Frieza at the time. Toriyama probably just wanted to reuse frieza in the future though, like many other characters who were spared

It was a concept. He wasn’t strong enough for SSJ at the time
the Lord Slug movie probably came out just after the Namek Saga ended. I don't think a manga only concept as big as Super Saiyan would be confirmed in a non canon movie prior to the actual anime episode showing him go SSJ.
@@anond5754 super saiyan isn’t really “strength” based though. It has to do with S cells (according to Toriyama which is kinda weird to me but whatever). At that point in his life, as emotional as he was, he just didn’t have the development to be able to do something like that. It could be that goku’s genetics didn’t inherently produce a lot of S cells, but once he acquired the transformation, it was more easily passed on to his sons
