  • Noise reduction in the cabin of Tesla's is something Tesla needs to fix but until they do that I found a solution for $80 which I will have linked below. Mine is a 2020 Model Y so the newer cones have the double pained glass in them which makes them about 5 decibels quieter from the factory. Smaller wheels also help.

Thanks for sharing. I still hear some noise produced by the tires when they sound hallowed. I also installed sound deadening material all over my car, but the window glass allows sound in because it has thin glass. It is that we fix one area and another one let’s sound in. Some drivers are putting foam inside the tires so that they don’t resonate. I will explore that and try to get thicker window glass. For now, I play some music to replace some noise with different sound.

1 db is a 30% difference in sound pressure, that's pretty small. 3 db would be a factor of 2. Below that, the treatment is not worth the effort or the risk of having parts freeze together in winter. Thanks!

I added the same kit in my 2021 MYLR when i got it. Also got about the same 1-2 dB sound reduction. The rubbers are low quality and seem to "flatten" after a while. The self adhesive is poor and does not last. I had to reapply with body shop trim adhesive. The gaskets do improve the tonal quality of the door slam. I do have a personal question about your Unplugged Performance coil-overs. I will message to your site, thanks.

Between wind, highway speed, carwashing, they start coming up in weeks. And as you pointed out, really make no difference. Dont believe me? Use a decibel meter for before and after. There was a 1 to 3 db improvement. I wouldn't say they're not worth it. Every little bit helps I guess.
I believe where you may get the most improvement, and this seems to be a little overkill, is to put sound deadening material in the doors and possibly in the hatch. Use that material they use to deaden the sound when you get a decent subwoofer installed. I bet you that will take your db's down into the mid to upper 60s.

So when it comes to noise, it will definitely be noticeable over a longer period of driving, that it might not be as tiresome as a louder noise volume.
There is also the noise frequency to consider, low humming might be less tiring than higher pitched wind noise.

@@DIYglenn The human ear is also logarithmic. A doubling of sound power does not lead to a perceived doubling of volume, psychoacoustics tells us that approx 10dB increase will lead to a doubling of volume. And yes a signal, sound can be classified as a mechanical wave and be analyzed as a signal. When speaking about acoustics, the dB is used to quantify power ratios measured in watts. It may double or halve the allowed exposure time but that is not what you said in your original comment which was ambiguous. We have no frequency spectrum analysis from inside the vehicle so there is no need delve into ISO 226:2003 equal loudness contours...

Double or twice the loudness = factor 2 means 10 dB more sensed loudness level (psycho acoustic)

I just hated having to deal with a puncture on the door trim, which i noticed at delivery and took them 2 months to fix. Mobile Service tech replaced it in 10 minutes but the first time they came they brought the wrong color 😠. This could have easily been fixed in the factory. I noticed it as soon as I sat in the car. Also, had to take it for minor aliment issues and to my surprise they had an old M3 loaner. That thing was loud AF. Knock on wood, my Y has been great and I still love it. Big improvement over the early builds. Tesla just need to improve QC and stock up on parts.
