    Is there a tutorial on fusing your encaustic paint?

    Thanks for this very cool video. I am wondering if you use any encaustic wax/medium in this painting at all? Maybe I missed it but I see mainly lots of burns and then pan pastel....How long do you let the piece sit between burns? How do you bump back the shine of shellac? Thanks for more info if you can reply.

      Hi Carole ! I always tell you in the beginning of the video how the board was prepped so I don't bore you to death with all of the prep time:) This one has 3-4 coats of white encaustic paint. The piece has to rest a while after a couple of shellac burns or it will get goopy. This depends on the size of the piece and how much shellac was applied. The shellac will take time to dry just like it would being applied in a normal setting. The shellac is a natural finish so it is already quite shiny but it gets even more so when buffed with a soft cloth once the whole piece is completely dry. I also have an entire section devoted entirely to steps for successful shellac burns in "Encausticology 101 workshop ' If you would like to see the details here : www.sharireplogle.com/store/p3/Encausticology-101-workshop.html Have fun !

    Love this, stunning effect! Does anyone have any recommendations for shellac that's available in the UK? The one that you use doesn't seem to be easily available or is very expensive I presume due to shipping from the US.

      Maybe try a local woodworking supply store. It's and old school wood finish, but still used these days by some. Comes premixed in cans/tins or in dry crystal form.

    What did you put on the board that caused the white reaction when torch was applied?

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Judy ! The tinted shellac is what had the reaction :)

    Arg! I have done your encausticology 101 and am sooo frustrated with the shellac burn process. I am in Mexico so it is very difficult to get supplies. First I got some hand made shellac from a friend. That didn’t work. No cells created. Then I had a quart of Bullseye/zinzer shellace brought down from the states. That isn’t working either. Please, what am I doing wrong? Thanks!
