    Such an incredible plethora of techniques! Absolutely gorgeous piece and you stole my heart when you finished with a landscape over the stencil. I'm new to encaustic, but my background is in watercolor painting. I just LOVED the entire process! Thanks for sharing!

    LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!! I've lived off of them. During the Pandemic they saved me. Could you please tell me names of your Stencil Girl (or others) favorites, besides the ones listed in this video. I love the abstract so you can create your own thing. You can do so much with "Soulful Scribbles" for example. I find that so many of the stencils out there are too specific. Thank you for all you do!

    Do you start with encaustic gesso or encaustic paint/primer?
    Thank you for suggesting the test boards! Good idea! I'll make notes on the back of the samples.

    Thank you Shari it was a very beautiful tutorial. I've never done encaustic but i make it my next art project. I have a couple questions for you. How much wax do you know to melt for each project and can you keep melting the same wax over and over if you melted to much of it? And what degree? And the Damar resin is to be mixed with the wax? I haven't bought the supply yet so i imagine it must be explained on the package? Thank you for answering my learning questions!! I love that medium and can't wait to explore it!

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  Před 5 lety

      Hi Odette ! Yes you can use the encaustic medium over and over so no worries on any waste happening :) You can buy the damar resin already included in the medium in pellets or bar form and just melt and go! I am so glad you want to give encaustic a go , it is very forgiving and lends itself to all styles of painting and mixed media art with so many opportunities for exploration. If you would like much more detailed step by step on how to get started with encaustic you can also see the "Encausticology " complete series of online workshops on my website sharireplogle.com :)

    Thank you for all your nice wideos with tips and trix. Encaustic painting looks so interesting and I like to try it, but here in Norway its not possible to buy this products. I have asked in several big art stores, but it seems that its not known anywhere. I will be glad if you can tel me what to buy and where I can order it from US.
    Best regards from Britt in Norway

    Thanks, Shari! When fusing the oil sticks, do you let it dry a bit first, or just fuse directly after application?

  • @ursilysser4398
    @ursilysser4398 Před 5 lety

    When I’m using panpastels I fuse them quite well afterwards. But when I then add a layer of wax it always smudges the PP. What do I have to do? Thank you

    Do you have recommendations for cleaning your stencils, particularly the ones you use with encaustic wax?

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Susan ! You can turn the heated palette down just a bit , put the stencil on and warm the wax slightly and wipe off clean with a paper towel. This has not worked for me yet with any other stencil brand btw. You can also hold your heat gun a ways away to heat the wax slightly and wipe it off that way. I don't keep them on the heat source or heat with the heat gun too long but the wax melts pretty quickly and its not hard at all. Hope this helps :)

    These are beautiful love what you did with the oil sticks and pan pastels. In the beginning you said you used 3 coats of white encaustic paint are you referring to gesso or actual white encaustic wax paint? It looks like white encaustic gesso to me but just checking? Thank you.

    • @ShariReplogle
      @ShariReplogle  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Lucy and thank you ! Each masonite board has a thin layer of encaustic gesso and then 3 layers of white encaustic paint fused in between each layer so that I have a nice flat prepped encaustic surface to transfer on . Hope this helps , and have fun !
