- In today’s video we look at some basic dog training and some hints and helpful information to make training a little easier.
Basic obedience training is essential for any pet or working dog to keep your dog safe and under control so hear is how I would start off a new puppy in training
Some good information to get your dog listening to you
I love this channel because we get to see working dogs live their best lives. They have a kind human master and a great family home to boot. It's just a nice visit every time I see a video.
Sean - I would to see more 'pep-talks' and 'boops'!! I loved that.... 🐕 🤜🤛
I love that he remembered to let Kate give him *his* boop at the end! Sweet girl
Excellent lesson. You have the best possible observation skills, an astonishing amount of empathy and you grasp "the big picture" in all you do. And did I say wise beyond your years also? No wonder your dogs behave and perform so well. Your entire clan is such an inspiration. Thank you.
Thank you
Thanks for the tips!
So glad to stay "real" as we say in the States and focus on the work you and Kate, Echo and Storm do. There are enough "dogs in tutus" sites already.
Wow!! Such great, well-thought-out advice! So sweet to see Kate (?) getting loved on too and how second-nature it is. What s beautiful inspiring channel. ❤🙏🏽
Thanks yeah she like to get a scratch
I have an Australian shepherd and she reminds me so much of your beautiful dogs. Only your dogs are much better trained. Thanks for these videos, your land is amazing and if i could visit any country it would be Scotland. My ancestors came from there and ive always been drawn there. Fan from Tennessee!💙🐶
This was full of good tips that I can use, thank you, Sean. One thing that you didn't dwell on, because I think you don't have to worry about it, is staying calm. The minute a person becomes even a little annoyed with a dog, they say "goodbye" to the training mode in the dog's brain, and put him into fight-or-flight, where he can't learn anything. He may do what they want when they're angry, but he won't remember it, which will make the next lesson even harder, as they will inevitably become angrier sooner, thinking that the dog had already learned this. You seem so even-tempered, Sean, I imagine it doesn't occur to you that many of us don't instinctively know how to Zen during training. You probably think it's obvious! Keep up the good work.
Brilliant advice.
Excellent tip about training in the new environment. Thanks 👍
It is great to hear the Scottish accent it so reminds me of my Granny whom was from Coatbridge!
Thank you
I used to help teach an obedience training class.. house dogs only..lol..You are absolutely correct..puppies learn quickly, and treats make it a lot easier ..love watching your videos. Your dogs are awesome...
Absolutely!!
Thank you for this lesson, Sean! In video nr.2, could you show us how you make them work for you, leading the herd? Have a lovely weekend! Greetings from Portugal!
8:30 What a beatiful sight it is to see your lovely border collies do what they love. I get tingles whenever I see a BC in full flight. Just amazing!
When training my dog I used to stand at the end of my drive when the kids used to go to school and everyone was going to work. So she got used to all the fuss and noise. I progressed to training sessions so she got used to training in this environment. She is now very focused
Great information. So useful and I just adopted a new puppy
Although I don't own sheep dogs I do care for dogs and they often have bad manners they learn from their homes.
I love when you teach us things because they can be adapted to other dogs ❤❤❤
Thank you
Great advice, it is always hard to know how to transition dogs into new situations and you addressed that here. I love seeing these training tips as well as the day to day things you and your dogs do. Thanks!
Lovely dogs all of them
Great video 👏 I have a 2 year old Boxer that spends her days on my horse farm with me. She is good and fun ❤ I do have a recall, but she is slow to respond usually. So I started using your "that'll do" command a couple weeks ago, and she picked right up on it 😊 Thanks!!! Keep the good training advice coming. We will not be herding anything, but it's important to have good manners and obedience. Love your channel ❤
That is awesome!
@seanthesheepman5845 😎❤️ just a funny side note for ya. My Boxers do not know the command "Speak" I say "Tell me a lie!" And then they bark 😆 they are pure entertainment lol And kinda like living with cartoon characters
another winner! This will help me with my dogs which have never been properly trained.
When you said "That'll do!" at the end of the video I wanted to run home!
Thanks
And that'll do for me, too! Thanks for your tips!
Best information for working dogs…
Thanks
Thank you for this video. You've done just a wonderful job with your furbabies. Have a blessed weekend both of you.❤❤❤ 😊
❤the video. Always something to learn.
Thanks ❤
As usual, training well explained by Sean. You are a natural teacher!
Thank you so much for touching on those very important points of training!!
You are so welcome!
Great video. Saw the Starlink, those things are awesome.
Yes they are!
Great information!
Sorry Sean, I missed a bit of this cos I was too busy watching sweet Kate looking for loves, using her paw to keep you going!😂😂
They are all working dogs but they are so loving and adorable.
Things I wish I had known before!! Thanks Sean
😂😂
Learned a lot today. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Great video, very nicely put across .... thanks for sharing
Great tips. Thanks 😊
You are so welcome!
Thank you for this, very helpful! This applies in so many situations.
Good information. Appreciated...and thank you. (and as an aside....Sean seems to be getting a bit shaggy....time for a shearing?...🤐☺
We shall see
Sean😮 what a beard!!
yes lie down and that will do at a very young age love it
Yes
Really helpful - thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Glad it was helpful!
Training puppies in small increments in new environments is something that ALL dog-owners should do, not just for working dogs.
Someone stole your video on CZcams. Dominic O'Neal Brown is his username. Go report him... The video is of Cate/Kate on the quadbike.
What are we supposed to do when you tell us That'll Do? 🤔 I forgot that command already.
❤
Wonderful tips Sean. I trained our family Jack Russell with commands & he’s very good. But…I can’t trust him bc he squirrels sometimes. And his squirrels are other dogs and people. He loves them both, but can scare people sometimes. I don’t like that and I can’t break it. I’m going to start using the shock collar. I don’t use the shock, but the vibrate setting. When I run him in the football field, if he sees someone cutting across the field ( on the other side) he just takes off and ignores me. I’m done, I’m using the vibrate setting. What is your opinion?
Every Jack Russell I have cared for is exactly like that.
I prefer just one word command, Down, instead of Lie Down. Down is very important to teach because you need that command to work no matter what stimulus is occurring that the dog might chase or leave you. Such as chasing small animals, children, to larger animals, cars. Saying the word Down is very important to teach to stop them from doing those chases and so forth. We had a squirrel run in front of our BC and then toward the street. so very important that the down command work so that our BC doesn't chase the squirrel in the street where our BC would be hit by a car.
😍❤️🐕🐑🐑🐑
I can't understand some of the words your saying. But, good job.
Collies have “down” built in 😂
Do they need water while they’re working?
Sean could train me any day of the week.
Hi Stacey! Hope you are feeling well.
Thanks doing 😊
Is that you're farm? And how many acres is it?
My heeler does all these tricks but when ppl are at my house doesn't listen..🤦♀️. He will lay down a stay and all the other commands, but only when we are alone I don't get it..and he jumps all over everyone until they leave its so bad..as soon as ppl leave..bam he listens to every commamd😢
So once the dog is trained, will they follow anybody who says the right words? If I walked up to your dogs and started saying the commands, would they follow them or look at me like I'm a crazy stranger?
No you need a bond with a dog
