I believe part of what makes you the World Class fly tyer that you are, has to do with your personality. You seem to me to be one of the nicest people anyone could possibly meet. The type of person that I would definitely want as my neighbor, and not because of your fly tying skills either. You are soft spoken, very humble, and seem to take life as it comes and this extremely high degree of “centered-ness” and calm contribute to the exceptional quality of your work.
Thought about getting a basic kit and tying again but I don't really need anymore flies to add to the 159,000 I already have (haha) not got that many but like all fishers have more than I will ever use ! Started fishing in 1969 and my dad used the same three flies all season and caught as many trout as anyone else. It is so relaxing watching a master at work. Tight lines.

Love tying this type of pattern cracking video Davie. Would like to see Fulling Mill release all their hook types in a barbless black nickel option as well as some of the other more modern hook shapes. As odd as it sounds I just don’t like tying on bronze hooks and never used barbed.

Could use a shiny bronze wild turkey feather for the body instead ....or a blue mallard, variations on this pattern...suspect they will
catch trout too!

Great looking soft hackle mate. Have you seen the book The North Country Fly by Robert L Smith. Yorkshire’s Soft Hackle. I’ve got the book. Has a lot of great patterns. But having some trouble getting some of the feathers. Been looking fo for them but hard to find. That little beauty there will catch a few nice bows. Thanks for sharing mate.

I noticed you use wax in allot of your flies . What kinda of wax do you use. I see that you keep it on a finger when tying .I'm curious to what kind of wax it is and where does someone find it. Love your tying videos. Learn allot from you .

We all sat and spoke about how much we love watching your tying videos. Greg was there too and his videos are also a favorite of mine. It’d be great if you could tie the whole series - I’m especially interested in different winging styles in the wet fly debate. I’m never sure when/if to use paired slips, bunched & split or bunched upright. Even Rob Smith doesn’t offer a definitive view. Also, have you seen Michael Theakstone’s old book, Davie?

Many of the first wet flies I tyed came out of books called Let's Fish the Clyde by Robert Sharp another was Clyde Style flies by John Reid and I would never be without them..I have seen Michael Theakstone's book but I don't own a copy though I should look into buying one..Over the years I have tyed so many different wet flies but I do use a lot of substitute materials and the flies still work really well, the softer the fibres the better they work..

It was first published in 1855, the copy I got off Ebay was published in 1995 (North Country Flies by T.E Pritt..I'm glad you liked the fly...

What would you suggest as a substitute for magpie herl? It seems to be well near impossible to find here in the US.

I used Fibres from the tail of a Magpie though you could use a fine peacock herl if you don't have any..I'm glad you liked the fly...

That's why you use tools... ;-) I have hands like barn doors, but I can still tie midges in size 22. Practise, my friend, practice...

I've looked for the T.E. Pritt book before. I'd love to own a copy. Ran into this .pdf copy of it... nwflytyer.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/north-country-flies_pritt.pdf A professional copying but I'm guessing the color plates aren't equal to those in the book. Still, better than the "no book" I have... =]
Also... the site the .pdf is from has a number of other "Classic" books in .pdf form, as well as other interesting "stuff".

Most times I look for used books here... www.usedbooksearch.co.uk/ This is the best book-search I know of. I have found a person can get differing responses based on differences in search so I often will search both 10 and 13 ISBN, also tittle, also author. Occasionally, a much better offer shows up.
