Nothing controversial about it, Samford got screwed.
😂😂😂 Bush League.. smmfh
Yeah. That was totally clean. Poor kid from Samford. He made the play of his life and got robbed
That's about as clean a block as you'll ever find.
Did you make a list of all the good and bad calls throughout the game? Or did you just pick a call with less time on the clock than other calls and say that is the one call throughout the entirety of a game that kept a team from winning? Grow up
They're not calling the block controversial. The ending, as in Kansas winning after that foul was called, is controversial.
There needs to be a way to reverse bad calls like that. That’s crazy.
For real, there was no touching at all. Clear as day light
Takes away their 5 on 4 going back regardless. Kansas was saved by that call.
The only thing we can do is pray.
Yeah. It’s called replay
at the very least review it.
One of the cleanest blocks I’ve ever seen in my life
It wasn't controversial, it was flat out the wrong call.
Its the call not the block.
not controversial, refs fucking blew it big time!
drives me nuts he has a perfect view of the play and calls the foul on the fall instead of watching the block, hope that crew doesnt get another game
Why no review?
Blew it or threw it??? The ref trailing in front of the camera had a clear view of the play in real-time. There wasn't ANY body contact whatsoever.
That's why it controversial it's not the black it's the call that's controversial.
I picked Samford too and I was pissed. I think they wanted the zags and Kansas match up
that block was so clean. smh
1 of the best blocks I've ever seen, esp given circumstance. That's a game winning block.
yk they messed up when march madness edits the block out their clip😭
Couldn't let all the big schools lose in the first round
UNC won so that wasnt an option
Can they challenge and make the refs look at the replay? I'm a KU fan but I didn't want to win that way. That was all ball and a great play. We won't beat Gonzaga, they are going to kick our asses on Saturday. Samford will get to watch a beating that we deserve giving up a 22 point lead like that.
I don't believe there is a challenge rule like there is in the NBA. They really should have one at least during the final 2 minutes of the game.
But they let Kentucky lose? Not everything is a conspiracy bud
@@Jaybird003that's why he said they can't ALL lose in the first round. 🤦🏼♂️
Genuine question: so they really couldn’t review that call? That’s a really tough call to make in real time but it’s wild if there’s no way to go back and review it
Fouls are the only plays not reviewable. They believe officials would undermined or they would call a replay on every foul if they could.
@@schelbboy22 refs should be undermined
Not different from out of bounds or 3vs2 points, especially if it’s in the last 2 mins of the game
They don’t have a challenge rule in place, and the nba only did so relatively recently because of moments like these. It’s only a matter of time before one egregious call happens at the end of the championship game or the final four, and then, and only then, will they implement a challenge policy. But I guarantee you that it will take this sort of thing happening at the end of the tournament for them to actually make a rule change
@drakevick1646 I hope something does change with today's technology, but you're right. It will take bad calls in big games.
I've played, coached, and reffed. It's frustrating when all you can do is write a complaint to the NCAA about officials, and hear nothing back.
I don't think it's rigged. I just think it's judgement calls that we now get to see multiple times, but can't do anything about.
It's why people complain about makeup calls, or even the game being rigged.
that clean block should be the cover of Sports Illustrated with the proper caption FARCE MADNESS!
Should write for them
Tough to call in real time but refs should be allowed to review that and change the call.
@keepsaquon101 I totally agree with your statement. ain't no way you can't be allow to go back and review such a controversial call at the end of the game like that. that's BELIGEROUS!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clean block, refs blew the call. Score was 90-89 Kansas led by one point, Samford's ball with 14 seconds to play. Now we'll never know if Samford could have score 2 points and won the game.
Exactly lol. Never know
Except we do know that they had the ball with 14 seconds and a chance to tie and didn’t score period. They could’ve quickly scored a two and fouled or actually made a three.
They got the rebound and the Kansas guy was on floor they would have had a 5 on 4 situation to win the game.
@@Frostblaze207they needed a quick three to tie that’s completely different from needing a two to win the game down one. Plus 14 seconds is enough time to get a really good look.
Don’t blame all three of them. Only one made the incorrect call.
Funny how that happens with 2 refs with a clear view. Travesty.
Don’t blame Doug Sirmons. He correctly did not call the foul.
yup, the guys head you see in the replay did NOT make a call. came from the other side, and they didn't even have a clear view.
That ref and crew absolutely cannot call another game in this tourney. Understand that a slow motion review would've helped but two refs had the perfect view. There's a reason why someone is qualified to be a ref and there is a reason why a crew of 3 is used, instead of just a solo ref...the crew is supposed to to help each other. Thus, the incredibly bad call by the ref on the side should have been overruled by the ref in the back with the perfect view...and the crew is at fault and should not officiate any other tourney games.
Refs can't overturn foul calls goofy only the out of bounds calls. Even if they saw a mistake foul on the big screen replay they can't overrule it.
@WaywardAnalysis i agreed with 100%
That was a clean block. Samford got screwed big time.
They didn’t get screwed big time don’t go down 20 and don’t base an ENTIRE game off one call it was a clean block but you can’t go down 20
@baseballballer25 you can be down 20 and still get screwed. Yes, that call basically makes them one dimensional on their next offensive possession.
@@anthonychamberlain2032 I know but what I’m saying is don’t put yourself in that position and it never comes down to a call!
@@anthonychamberlain2032 it’s a 40 min game the better team won fair and square… you can’t say there wasn’t bad calls for both team in the 40 min they played
@@baseballballer25 that's fine. I still covered
One of the most clutch blocks in tournament history erased cause of a referee’s mistake. Unbelievable smh….
Not sure what the ref even saw to make him think there was a foul,
That ref made the decision he was gonna call this foul before it even happened. Some straight bullshit
oh wait I have Kansas in my bracket
Nothing...just like that...NOTHING! Probably paid to call it a foul. He just looked at the Kansas player and automatically said "This got to be a foul". So he called foul. Absolutely insane!
@@anthonymiller6334lmao why you so mad look at the angle the red has and how fast they are moving it’s not like they can slow it down like you saw multiple times lmao before you commented
Ref obviously had money on Kansas in his bracket. Rigged game. It's blatant.
Absolutely insane. The ref is literally staring down waiting to make this call. He made up in his mind he was gonna call this before it even happened. This type of shit has to be reviewable.
@brobiak954 that's exactly how I saw it. he was going to blow that whistle NO MATTER WHAT! it's some dirty *^#* going on behind the scenes.
The fact i had a parlay that was about cash for 700
A straight bet for 1081
And all i needed was competent refs . I never been so aggravated this is insane should void my bet because damn bro this shits a scam atp if they blatantly making the wrong calls
Give it up to samford for playing hard down to the last min of the game. Hate to see it come down to a bad call.
Brutal. It also takes that moment away from the player. Once we're done complaining, it's gonna be fogitten. When it should be remembered forever is an awesome play that potentially won them the game.
All Ball!! Tired of the Referees screwing Games up with their calls!
you ted it!!!😖
unbelievable! refs bailed them out
now you know how Memphis feels after they got screwed over by the refs in last years tourney against FAU. the refs didn't give Memphis the timeout call they made after securing the ball.
Vegas has entered the chat
Samford got hosed, omg
Calls like that are why I never played college basketball. That, and not being good.
🤣🤣🤣
Damn, Shohei is glad Kansas won
Damn Samford got screwed over that block was as clean as a babies behind
That's funny but true. At least half the time the baby's behind is not so clean!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t even blame the refs I blame the fact that it can’t be challenged or reviewed. Plays like that are usually fouls and no ref had a 100 percent clear angle it was just an insane play
bs there is no excuse for the ref to miss that call he needs to be fire admittedly never be able ref another tournament game they can't have the refs determined the out come of games
@@coltsfan755 again I’m not saying the call was right but it’s easy for us to say after seeing all angles of a replay. If I had to call that play live I’m sure I’d get it wrong too
The entire arena saw it😂
I do blame the ref why is he calling a foul that he didn’t see. Even the announcer was confused.
Only reason that kid fell is bc he grabbed the rim. Just assume a foul occurred, I guess.
rigged
Golfs the only pure game left without any refs to ruin it or rigg it. Unfortunately it’s not great to watch other than the majors.
Might be a magnetic ball used for the putting stages. Who knows. Everything is so fixed and obvious. No integrity anymore
@@joeheasley8046 No actually golf is rigged too
Aside from the bogus drops you have players taking dives so that the predetermined "stars" win
You have to have instant replay. That has to be challenged.
Under a minute they could’ve go back to review the call. 😂
Blocking shots from behind the shooter was one of my specialties (usually because I got beat on the play) but I almost always got called for a foul because it seems like one has to foul to catch the ball from behind. Ref blew the whistle by instinct without watching to see if there was contact.
How is there no way to address this objectively incorrect decision by the refs? Basketball needs some sort of challenge system to prevent bad refs from deciding games.
Kansas make sure you send the refs a Xmas gift this year.
blew the call
Sanford’s coach is legitimately a basketball prodigy. some of his play calls during that comeback, caught Kansas with their pants down and their pressing off of missed baskets is some thing that teams will probably be doing a whole lot more of moving forward.
Whatever power 5 school that can sign him will be lucky
They need to be fired immediately
Only way to get the point across to let a play play out unless it’s an egregious foul. I don’t even care who won or wins it all but could’ve been a good finish
All of them? Even the ones who didn’t make an incorrect call? If your co-worker steals something from your company, should you get fired too?
Disgusting. A totally anticipated "foul" call that never existed. Again...DISGUSTING!!
All my 60+ years of sports-loving life, I've asked how can they can call 4:34 something they couldn't have seen, that didn't happen? Not a judgment call, just a fiction, a lie, just corrupt. But to be expected. Read Tim Donaghy's book about NBA refereeing.
What is the use of replay if you don't use it to get the call right? It only looked like a foul because dude went up too close to the rim, hung on it a bit and his momentum made it look like he got hit and dude didn't touch him. Wow!
What a shitty way to lose a game.
He blocked him so hard he lost his balance haha. Did not touch anything but the ball, though. I was skeptical at first when I saw it in real time. I was like maybe body? But when you watch it again, it's 100% clean. I can see why they might have missed it, but people are right that they need to review it. "Can't be reviewable" my ass. If everyone knows they screwed up, they should fix it. Sure, they get the ball out of bounds instead of w/ 5-4 advantage, but it's still better than what happened. Or some other ref needs to step up like wait a min.
The NCAA needs to issue an apology to Samford.
WHY don't they use replay in the NCAA tournament to review fouls? I guess it would require the implementation of a coaches challenge, but it seems absolutely ridiculous given that situations like these do happen. Kansas still might have won, in fact, likely would have. But, it's important to have that up to the players on the court and not the refs.
Exactly 👍🏻
Im down for a coaches' challenge. 1 in each half. As far as automatic review, idk about that. Automatic review always leads to other things. When you review it, you are looking at the technical side of it, what ends up happening is you find other things during the replay that could get called against you..plus the end of the game is already so long, adding reviewable plays will just prolong the end even more. We just gotta accept human error, it's part of it. Everything moves too fast to call it right. 1 challenge each half and let's see after that. Maybe we can turn college into a pro game. Challenge every call. 😂😂😂😂
Wow. I tuned out.
BULLSHITTTT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ONE OF THE GREATEST MARCH MOMENTS OF ALL TIME
That was a block! Samford should have won.
To be fair big boy traveled at 0:16 so it evened itself out.
It was the defensive play of the tournament so far
The first thing I noticed was that dunk from the top of the key looked like a travel to me.
Congratulations CU Buffaloes. Coach Tad thank you for being such a great coach over 270 wins here at CU. Skobuffs 🙏
Simple, allow coaches 3 challenges per game and if they are wrong other team gets the ball.
🤯🤯🤯
That's a tough call to make, but that was an *extraordinary* perfect block! Shooter's hands didn't even move.
That’s why college basketball needs a challenge like the nba
Clean block but I think there are very few refs in the world that have the guts to no-call in that spot. A transition dunk where someone comes in from behind, especially when the offensive player hits the deck hard, is gonna get called almost every single time and refs usually aren't even good enough to get eyes on the point of contact with the ball. Not saying it's right, but just my opinion.
Wow, that is so discouraging.
The NCAA needs to implement the coaches challenge
I’m not a Kansas fan, but Absolutely need some kind of review system within the last 2 minutes. Any ref can miss a call, but they need a way to review it.
Brutal call. Sickening. No foul whatsoever.
The funny thing is Ku was up 21 at one point
Happens alot in basketball call always goes to the school with the higher pedigree
Hard to ignore the potential that there are fixes in the games with ‘high-profile’ schools. Sickening call. One ref, who didn’t call a foul, had a perfect angle on the play and could’ve/should’ve over-ruled the ref that had his head firmly implanted in his backside. The fact that didn’t happen takes me back to my original point. Too much $$$$$ to play the game fair.
Just review the call. Systems like VAR aren't perfect but they get obvious calls right more often than not.
Didn’t realize this game was taking place at the Phog. Wow
When you factor in the context of how big of a moment this was, in the post season, national tv, etc...this is quite possibly one the worst blown calls in sports history
And then Gonzaga beat Kansas. I feel bad for Samford though. That block is going down in history!
That was a very very very bad call by the official. I mean that was Com'on man it needs to be looked at and give that Game to SamFord.
They got screwed but they still had to make a shot too
fun fact: the guy who was “fouled” (nicolas timberlake) graduated high school in 2017, the year chet holmgren graduated 8th grade
It's insane to me that 25 year olds can play NCAA. I understand Covid and everything but, come on, it's ludicrous.
Damn that was so clean and clutch. Ref called it because Timberlake fell so hard. But it obviously wasn’t from the clean ass block. Damn man. Hell of a game. Would’ve loved to see it play out with Sanford down 1 and a chance to take the final shot to win. Would’ve been great.
Safe to say these refs will be lucky to call a NIT game
Safe to say you’re wrong. Doug Sirmons may even officiate in the Final Four this year. One guy made a mistake, not all three. The rules do not allow the other officials to change a judgement call on a foul.
This will go down as one of the worst calls of all time. Any sport.
That’s freaking wild! Clear block!
I like how the announcer just glazed over it like it was a Krispy Kreme donut.
I live minutes from Samford, went to BSC with Bucky. Glad to see him doing well he is a good dude. And good poker player
Offensive fouls and block woah
You cannot see that in real time i dont care how close you are....have to be able to review.
that felt like tayshaun prince 2.0, an incredible hustle and block and that title was erased to me because of that horrible call
As a basketball official myself, that was a horrible call. Can’t anticipate calls, you need to allow the play to develop so you can see everything before blowing your whistle. Smh
Exactly. See it . . . call it. Don't guess.
@@user-oh2hs6jh5xexactly! I looked at every angle of this play to see if there was something that could’ve been called but it was as a clean of a block as you’re going to get. Smh. Really bad call
Great game from Samford they played their hearts out, sad it had to end like that
100% clean block
Bush League..
Dang I feel rule change coming soon that messed up their momentum as well.
Incredible block denied! This is enough to introduce VAR for review.
0:38 I’m just realizing but the Kansas player tossed the other dude in the middle of the floor
The ref had the same camera view we saw on the replay where the player CLEARLY did not foul or even touch the Kansas player. This is the heartbreaking part about these games, when the refs cost a team a potential game. There should be fines for missing such an obviously bad call.
NCAA rule committee will look at this
What is instant replay good for is all sports don’t use it at crucial times
WHERE IS THE DAMN REPLAY! How do you not review that call? SCREWED!
Worst part to me is the other ref was watching from our same sideline view point we have and should clearly see it was not a foul.
Just terrible need to have that go to replay in final minutes of a game
Two blown calls in KUs favor? What? Im so shocked.
Swallow your whistle, you incompetent ref!!
It's a lot people in the comment section that don't get it. It's the call that's controversial not the block that's what the title to the video is referring to.
Was a block, missed call by ref, along with the travel on the two point slam by Samford the previous play and the punch in the back by Samford on Adams dunk the play before that. It was a terribly called game in the 2nd half. Samford flopped on fouls more than a net full of fish caught in an ocean.
What irritates me about a call like this is the ref is saying by making the call he saw a foul and since there wasn't one then how did he?
Sanford got hosed. Wow! No wonder everyone was talking about that block. It was clean.
What a shame
They got robbed blind!!! That’s messed up mane…
So true, rock chalk jayhawk, BOO KU
Sometimes the ball does lie!!
why do they have the review system again !
This is what gambling on game does...every sports have a gambling platform nowadays... it doesnt matter if its pro, amateur or college level.. gambling does them all..
Accept golf. It’s a pure game. No refs to rigg or ruin it. But besides majors it’s not great to watch
There needs be a legit challenge option for bad calls. At least one challenge per half, ler team.
I got finished watching the NCAA recap video having no idea what transpired in the last 30 seconds until I scrolled down to the comments section. The lack of information is sometimes disinformation...
Didn’t touch a single part of his body.
