    A better, more honest way to phrase this is to say that Leung Ting is a founder of his own distinct branch or sub-system derived from the Yip Man lineage of Wing Chun. But it sounds more impressive to call yourself "founder" I suppose.

  • @wingchun-simplekungfu7584

    He’s not the founder. He was one of the last students accepted by Ip Man. At that time Ip was very old and didn’t teach individuals directly. He would have observed and directed only. Leung Tings skills still appear to be quite good in these videos. 🙏.

      I think they mean he's the founder of his own lineage which is spelled 'Wing tsun' because usually its Wing Chun. But theres no difference in the actual art so I guess its Leung Ting trying to market his own Wing Chun.

    Depending on which version you choose to believe, Ng Mui was the founder and she died long before Leung Ting came along. Throw in the different lineages and claims re Fujian White Crane and the history is murky in places Even well established Okinawan karate styles have conflicting tales of who studied with which master in southern China : in any case, Leung Ting isn't the founder of Wing Chun even if he modified the name and the stance.

  • @dominiqueemond827
    @dominiqueemond827 Před měsícem +1

    He created the name 'wing tsun' because the abbreviation of 'wing chun' (the proper spelling in English) is 'wc' which people could mistake for 'water closet' (toilet). This is what I heard ... not sure how true this is.
    But is not the 'founder' of the wing chun style which originated over 250 years ago . There are a few oral histories (stories) of its origins .

    • @KOMBATPedia
      @KOMBATPedia  Před měsícem

      Not true, actually Leun Ting deveolped the WT for an easier aproach to Western students mentality (being them not as patient as "Easterner" students).
      Wing Chun recent founder was Yip Man or Ip Man as you better wich to spell and he was more of a formal Wing Chun schoolar.
      As for the history, Wing Chun goea back much more than 250 years, but it's not clearly registred when it started who was rhe first creator.
      The oral tradition gives us many stories, being the Wing Chun legend the most spread and accepted one.

    • @dominiqueemond827
      @dominiqueemond827 Před měsícem

      @@KOMBATPedia Pff ok.
      So you are saying 'Wing Tsun' was a easier-to-understand version of wing chun which Leung Ting made exclusively for Westerners, and not for locals in Hong Kong? That makes no sense.
      I have heard that lots of Ip Man students like Leung Ting and William Cheung (and others) later developed very organized and very structured learning syllabuses of their wing chun so they can operate their schools with more success...like Karate, Judo, and Take kwon Do schools worldwide; which had belt systems; and this helped retain students who enjoyed setting clear goals belt by belt.
