      I feel like the 3rd season would’ve left Peter at an all time low...

    It never had any stupid cross over with other DC properties.

    • @rxpenguin100
      @rxpenguin100 Před 5 lety +94

      Honestly,it wasn't that great of an idea in Teen Titans.
      The Teen Titans in the comics are about LEGACY, the same way Spider-Man is about RESPONSABILITY or X-Men about DISCRIMINATION. Most of the time is pretty obvious (Robin, Speedy, Wonder Girl, Aqualad, Kid Flash, etc...), other times, it's in more subtle ways (Beast Boy has the legacy of the Doom Patrol, Raven and her father, Starfire and Tamaran, etc...). The Teen Titans cartoon refused to show Batman, so we kinda missed a huge part of Robin's character. And of the subtle ways, in comparison to the comics, we only saw Raven and Trigon.
      It's why Season 5 of TT doesn't entirely work. It's talking about the newer generation of heroes but there is only one small problem with that approach...WE NEVER SAW THE OLD ONE (outside of the Doom Patrol), so it loses impact. You don't need to take it to a huge extreme like Young Justice did but I think it was a missed opportunity.

    Im a 90s kid and I wll always tell you SPECTACULAR SPIDERMAN IS THE GREATEST SPIDER-MAN SERIES EVER! I was skeptical at first because of the character designs but that series is my favorite animated show of all time. I'm SO SALTY we never got a season 3 because I really wanted to see Eddie and Pete who were like Brothers in the show before Eddie got made and became Venom to rekindle that bond they had and then team up to fight Carnage in S3 and squashing their bro beef. We even saw Kasady cameo in S2 and that made me SO UPSET at the conclusion we never got! Love this series rewatch it constantly. The 90s one is fun for nostalgia but after rewatching it recently as an adult it has not aged well, theres lots of corny lines and reused animation, also Spidey only throws A TOTAL of 2 punches the entire series in 65 eps. I watched it literally last month and counted. Fun for nostalgia but doesnt hold up that well.

I feel 90s X-Men aged better despise it being produced earlier. But I'll never forget that feeling seeing the X-Men cross over with him for the first time....that was the hypest shit I've ever seen until Marvel VS Capcom became a thing.

      I guess it's harder to understand in the intro, seeing as it's pretty distorted. It's also from the original theme, so maybe they threw 'em a bone on that one. Plus, actually draining blood is a pretty big deal. There was supposed to be a vampire villain on BTAS, but they scrapped it altogether when the network said they couldn't do it.

      +john Thaerough, sure, they broke a few rules. They not only had guns, but fired them at the "camera," which is apparently a rule (according to the DVD commentary). However, the blood is never explicitly referenced, and was also incredibly rare (there was more in the movie, but that was a PG-rated movie in the '90s). BS&P does cut you a few brakes, which was part of my theory on this show's intro. I really don't know enough to do more than present theories, and I have never worked in TV, but I do pick up a bit from commentary tracks and interviews. Here's some evidence for that vampire episode: dcanimated.com/WF/batman/btas/backstage/interviews/burnett.php

  • @munromister777
    @munromister777 Před 6 lety +153

    Spectacular is really great, but there's a few reasons why I prefer the 90's show:
    1) I really enjoy Peter being in college and being an adult. So many Spider-Man shows, movies, and reboots have him in high school, and it gets exhausting. It feels like negative character growth for Spider-Man in general to have him constantly restart in high school, especially since he was only in high school for four years real time (62-65). Spectacular probably does the high school Spider-Man the best out of any adaptation I've seen, but it's still a bit tiring.
    2) I absolutely love the crossovers the 90's show has. It was always so much fun to see him interact with other heroes, especially Daredevil, and it gave us one of the best story arcs in the show. It really gives the show a unique feel to have crossovers like that and show his relationship to other superheroes that I wish other Spidey shows would do (I know Ultimate would do this too, but not nearly as well as the 90's show did).
    Spectacular does have better aspects than the 90's show, like having Peter have love interests that aren't MJ or Gwen, which is definitely interesting to see, but I just like the 90's show better.

    I view the seasons of the 90s Spider-man as this:
    S1- Solid. Great rendition of the Venom saga, and the Hobgoblin became one of my favorite characters.
    S2- Rushed. It had a lot of good moments, but it seemed like there was no room to breathe, especially during the Tablet of Time 2-parter.
    S3- PERFECT. This is the highlight for me. Peter's actions last season have consequences that are shown here, Kingpin and Smythe's business relationship finally crumbles, there's a great 2-parter involving Daredevil, and the Green Goblin is finally introduced. He may only have been in three episodes, but he changed the series forever.
    S4- Lazy. The Black Cat finally gets introduced, and, like in the comics, she's enamored with Spider-man, but that plot thread is scuttled the moment Morbius returns. Lots of plots seem to go nowhere, and recycled animation is used the most this season.
    S5- Goofy. In Season 3 Madam Web was introduced and was training Spidey to fight an unspeakable horror. This season, after a bizarre storyline pitting the Insidious Six against old WW2-era superheroes to locate a secret Nazi weapon, Madam Web returns and has Spidey assemble a team of superheroes to fight a bunch of villains in a battle-world, then assemble a bunch of Spider-men (including Ben Reilly, the Scarlet Spider in the comics) to fight an evil version of himself. The entire season is just weird and way too scifi for me personally, yet it's considered the best season of the series.

      Agreed the third season was best and 2 and 4 had too much Morbius but I thought all the series outside of maybe season 1 had a pretty large amount of scifi aspect, I don't see that season 5 had a lot more than the others.

      Avery Graham I think Tombstone made more sense anyway. Kingpin is a large, strong, fast, genius, none of those on Spider-Man's level, Tombstone, as the show demonstrated, is a vicious brick. The perfect counter to Spidey's powers.
      The only advantages Kingpin would have are experience, which Tombstone also has, and his power staff, which Tombstone doesn't need.
      Add to that the fact that Kingpin has become more closely associated with Daredevil, even though he started as a Spidey villain, and I think Tombstone was a change for the better.

      I found it funny that Tombstone was called "the Big Man" by his subordinates and Fredrick Foswell was in this series, because in the comics Foswell WAS the Big Man. He was a villain in Spidey's early days, waring a mask and bulky suit to seem bigger and using the Enforcers to unite the gangs of New York into working under him. He was eventually exposed and arrested, but, after doing minimal jail time, got released and rehired as a reporter to the Daily Bugle. When the Kingpin was introduced, Foswell attempted to wrest control away from him, but after finding out Fisk was WAY stronger and smarter than him, he decided to become the Kingpin's lackey, though he ended up being a mole to the Daily Bugle and died saving Jamison's life.

      @Relevant Relevancy Okay two things. One just because he's the original does not make him the best. Two white Nick Fury is a fundamentally different character from Ultimate Fury and the MCU Nick Fury so one can say one is better than another doesn't necessarily have to do with race. But on that note one of the defining traits about black Nick Fury is that his appearance and personality are modelled after Samuel L Jackson even before Jackson portrayed him in the film's which ties his race and personality together. White Nick isn't modelled after Jackson, Black Nick is and so all versions of Black Nick are fundamentally different to White Nick hence why saying one is better than the other isn't necessarily racial.

    • @lenlimbo
      @lenlimbo Před 5 lety +2

      The thing about *BOTH* white Fury and black Fury is tht they where based , and I quote, "on the coolest cats of their time". The original Fury looks came from Dean Martin, while the modern cames from Samuel L. Jackson. Let's take into account that what passes as cool varies with time and people. But I think we can agree that many people do think that Samuel L. Jackson is a cool mf. Dean Martin, at least for today's standards, ain't exactly as cool as him.
      That said, to judge who's best and who's worst Fury, it all depends on when and who we are talking about. Much like everything else. By example, who is the cooler Superman? The original, gold age one, who, in *my* opinion, is goofy and boring, the silver age one, pre-crisis, new 52 or reborn (aka, pre-flash point migrated to New 52, with spouse and a child?). Maybe the DC AU one, who wasn't quite as boringly overpowered as the rest? If you ask me? Either the reborn one because the stories I've been able to read focus more on his human side (his son and how he tries to balance him being Supes with his responsabilities as a family man) or the DC AU, because, again, not as boringly overpowered as the rest of them. I'm pretty sure many superman fans (and I can't exactly put myself in that group, I do like some stories of superman but I'm not exactly what I'd call a true fan) will completely disagree with me, coupled with many reasons why I'm wrong (or, if I'm lucky, why they disagree) and why the versions I choose suck/are not even close to being as cool as their favored one. And that's fine, as long as they are respectful. It's an opinion, after all,
      And after all that, I'll go and give my opinion. I like better Samuel L. Fury than Dean Fury. I find him cooler, and I had more contact with the Ultimate version of Fury than the 616 one before Nick Fury Jr. came to exist in 616, so I'm also more used to him. Does it mean that he is better? At least for me he is. But does that mean that if someone thinks that the OG is better they are wrong. No, not at all.

      Yeah Spectacular took several of Doc Ock's best stories from the comics. The Sinister Six, The Master Planner and The Gang War. All in a mere two seasons. Amazing accomplishment. Which is really more than TAS did with Ock in their full five seasons. After his debut he was really nothing more than Kingpin's stooge.

    I love the twists and turns in Spectacular's Green Goblin storyline! It made the whole scenario very engaging, fun, exciting, and really got you thinking. Spectacular is my ideal Spidey show in many ways, because I love how it gives excellent development to both Peter's personal and superhero life - Excellent evolution is given to both Peter's supporting cast and the criminal underworld. The streamlined animation allows for fantastic action too, I don't think I've ever seen Spidey's agility be so impressive due to the fast (and accurate to his power set) speed Spidey moves at. I recently watched some of the 90's series when visiting my mum's house, as she bought the DVD for me as a present. I was a bit surprised at how well it holds up, I think of it as a great Saturday Morning Cartoon, but all but one of the episodes I watched from season one (the first eight) hold up enough for an adult to watch them. The art direction is beautiful, and the supporting characters are established very well, being endearing and a wonderful element of the world (as they should since Peter's personal life is key to Spider-Man in the comics). The show can't go all-out with the action scenes due to censorship (no punching), but Spidey dodging Doc Ock's tentacles, and his creative fights with the Spider Slayers are stand-out scenes and superb. I'd say Spidey's first fight with Doc Ock in the show is Iikely the best animated one we've seen (only the one I've seen from Spectacular, in Doc Ock's underground lair rivals it, also being absolutely fantastic). I also love the strong sense of continuity. Regarding the censorship on guns, I think the lasers actually are fine, fitting right in due to the world created being scientifically advanced.
    Now, I recall season one being the best season quality wise actually, as even though the show got more fun and exciting when the mythology was built up later on, and the storylines got more serialised, I think the pacing was too fast sometimes as the show focused more on the ongoing stories. Editing also got rather choppy sometimes, due to more re-used footage being used (characters returning from season one, then two, then three etc. now meant more material to splice in new episodes). The one episode of season one I watched that doesn't hold up for an adult audience is "The Alien Costume: Part 2" - The pacing is a bit too fast here - Shocker leaves Spider-Man seemingly dead under a wall he crushes, walks away, and then Spider-Man gets up mere seconds after to follow him without Shocker even hearing or seeing him. Towards the end, various things are converging too fast - we cut to a very brief scene of Shocker kidnapping John Jameson, and then a very brief scene of Eddie following John. Eddie attacking Spider-Man for revenge a second time in the finale also doesn't make sense, as the Shocker had just threatened to kill Eddie moments before in this fight, and Spider-Man is the only one who could defeat him. He also clearly didn't stand a chance against Spidey this time, whereas before when he tried to attack him, he had a mace on a chain as a weapon, here he has nothing. On very rare occasions, something a character would do would be questionable. Anyway, the show is still very entertaining and fun to watch, and the stories are always wonderfully creative.
    This is an extremely entertaining video dude! I've watched it three times now over the course of a long time, I really enjoy your analysis. Great choices for your use of a closing scene from both shows by the way!...

    The 90's animated series was a part of my childhood, I loved watching it. Though the dialogs weren't always that great though, just like the awkward edited scenes sometimes. But the voice acting was great and so was the art.
    Not sure if it still holds up today with those flaws I mentioned, but it is still worth a watch if you want to see a good Spider-Man animation imo.
    Also, I did not realize, ever, that Mark Hamil voiced the Hobgoblin and Frank Azaria did Eddie Brock.
