    I'd really love to join that ukulele gathering in Duluth next year, looks like it'd be a great time. I'm practicing a song to play at our church's Christmas party in a couple of weeks, it'll be my first time playing anything in front of people. Thanks again for your channel, it's such a valuable resource for learning!

      To a point. And it will never look new again.

    As always...a great review! Slightly off topic, what other Enya ukes, particularly in concert size, do you recommend?

      Depending on your choice, I haven’t played an Enya that I wouldn’t recommend. Is there a specific model you are interested in?

    I switched the strings on my Enya Nova Pro Tenor today to the Enya strings. I am waiting for them to get stretched, but I like it much better already. I worked with the Titanium strings for a couple months, but they were just too thick for my liking. I have all three Enya travel ukes. My only criticism so far is the Mini's Soprano neck is not wide enough making a D chord very troublesome.

      @UkeStuff  Před 2 lety

      I’m finding the E6S strings to be better so far (video coming of that eventually) but I might like to try even a lighter gauge set.

    Very nice review Chris.
    I am curious-
    Did the model that broke look like the joint that pulled apart had adhesive that failed or did it look like no adhesive was added in that area?

    • @UkeStuff
      @UkeStuff  Před 2 lety +2

      I am not sure. It split so easily that it makes me wonder if there was limited glue in that area.

    Wow, man - are you kidding me?
    This is by far the most in-depth review of ANY ukulele I’ve ever watched! Very professionally done. Then the fact that you are an eloquent speaker makes this even more enjoyable.
    Do you see a chance to swap out the tuners? Or would the screw holes not be reusable? What about widening them and putting in UPTs? Same question for the (holes of the) strap buttons. And then this: would you know how this instrument compares to a LAVA MUSIC?

      Hello, and thank you for they very kind comments. I still consider Barry Maz to be the leader in this field, and wanted to do something different than what he does in my reviews. I do use his demo songs (with others) so that if you are comparing my reviews to his in the process of purchasing a ukulele, you can hear the same tunes from a couple of different players on the same models of ukulele.
      The tuners on these work great, and I don't see a reason why anyone would need to install UPTs. That said, I've never take the tuners out of an Enya Nova and tried fitting a UPT. I don't have any extra UPTs around to try; though I have a couple of ukuleles that I really need to fit with UPTs. I've put UPTs on a couple of ukuleles (including a Kamaka HF-2), so you could easily drill the micro hole for the "cleat" that holds the UPT on the back of the headstock, but I'm not sure what you would have in terms of clearance for the shaft of the UPT.
      Southern Ukulele Store used to carry the Enya Nova, but may not any longer, as they just couldn't compete with price when the Nova was on Amazon (they have to make money, too, which is fair). They like that instrument (as do I), and they would have the materials on hand to try a fitting and let you know if it could work. So I would send them an e-mail or ask Alex Beds directly. There is also an Enya Nova group on Facebook, and you could certainly ask this question there as well.
      Thanks again for your lovely comments and thanks for watching the videos!

      I also forgot to mention the Lava; I have some comparisons with the Lava. I was sent one for review which I sold much under value to another player. The Lava U always sounded "tubby" and "dark" to me, and I like the brighter qualities of the Enya Nova...but I fully admit that I like bright sounds.
      The Enya Nova also doesn't require a special strap, is a fraction of the price of the Lava, and both come with gig bags that could be improved (The Lava "space case" is cool, but completely useless for traveling). Both have unique looks, the Nova more like an electric guitar, and the Lava sort of like a space ukulele.
      So in my case, I'd buy the Nova 10 times out of 10 over the Lava, for sound and value. There are people who would appreciate the sound of the Lava. And the Lava does have one extra effects setting, if you are interested in that.

      @@UkeStuff DANKE for your detailed answer; all very interesting. Hold on to your chair and I will tell you why I would like to change the tuners, ok? It‘s the color I cannot take; the gold. It is just a total nuisance to my eyes!

    Steve here. Great review as always. As to the frets on my Nova Pro, I didn't have to dress them, as the fret ends were perfect. All I did was polish them with metal polish and a Dremel buffing wheel, as I like the frets on my instruments to be mirror bright and smooth (especially on electric guitars where you can feel the fret surface when you bend the strings). Of course that isn't a factor on Ukes, and it wasn't needed here, just something I do. Action at the 12th fret on my Enya Nova Pro was 0.120", or about 3 mm, which I consider high, but realistically is not bad for a budget instrument. I was able to easily remove the saddle and sand it down to give my preferred action of 0.090", or 2.3 mm. I too find the instrument to be a bit long for most of my cases. My biggest gripe would be the relief on the neck. I feel ukes should have little to no relief, say between about dead flat and 0.008". My Nova Pro has a full 0.013" of relief at the 6th fret, which is just too much, and noticeably increases the action between the 3rd and 7th frets. Given that there is no truss rod to make changes on most ukes, the amount of built-in relief is something that should probably get more attention then it does when evaluating instruments. At least with this instrument we can be reasonably sure it won't change over time. I did change mine to low G, and had to file the slot for the G string a bit wider at the bridge, but not at the nut. Overall very pleased with the instrument, but then I haven't yet given it your patented drop test!

      I am glad you commented! I thought you had done more fretwork than a polish!

    So annoying that in the US $139 is the going price but in the U.K. £220 is about the lowest

      Are you sure you are not seeing the “AcousticPlus” price over the “Non-AcousticPlus” version? The AcousticPlus I just bought (Tenor) was $229 US Nova U Pro (the same Uke in non-AcousticPlus was $139 US).
