Finally...someone honest about MPG they get with their diesel truck.
People all the time say they get somewhere in the 20’s all the time. I don’t know why they always lie about it.
I’ve got a guy at work that says his 17 GMC 2500 CCSB 4x4 gets 23 mpg empty and 17 towing his 7500 pound camper. I said BS and he just looked at me. He also claims his truck is rated to tow almost 23k lbs. 🤦‍♂️

Mine will easily tow any travel trailer I want, rated at 10,300 pounds towing. In 3 years with mine, combined mpg is ... 19.7!! That includes towing about 3,000 miles. I have 3.5 Ecoboost, love it.

  • @BeautifuLakesStreamsBiologists

Love all the advantages of the 450 that you highlighted, except for *the killer* payload! You've been our patron saint in our quest for a mobile office that started with the idea of a 5th wheel and is now going to be a big truck camper. A Host Mammoth camper will run 6k fully loaded. the 450 payload is just not enough. We are downsizing to either a 350 or up to a 550 flat bed. Your mileage and comfort comments have us leaning to the 350 and maybe taking it easy with the speed. .... but it's just like us to then want to tow something BIG!

I just went through a tank on a 24v cummins. 19 mpg. And a third of the tank was towing about 8500lbs. That's with a 4.10 rear end and a dually. It's also 350 and 780 wheel hp and tq. I wish these newer trucks had a little less power if that means they could get better mpg.

  • @blackriflemensorganization6139

Quick question for you: Have you dealt with death wobble? My 350 4x4 xlt is 9 months old and I got a dose on the freeway this past Saturday, at 10,000 miles on 2018 f350 4x4 at standard freeway speed. Dealer said it needed alignment shims, and that it came from the factory badly aligned. My truck still tracks relatively true, and until now has ran like a dream... I'm waiting for the shims to arrive, and need to ask dealer if this repair is under warranty. It definitely should be! Would have any insight on the death wobble phenomenon? Thanks for any advice you can provide!

OMG! I find myself analyzing every pickup truck to see what they are. I see a Ford, and I am like okay which one is that one, and I am starting to be able to recognize a little better. I have decided that the F450 is what I want to pull my 5th wheel when I get it. I plan to be full time and I will be a solo female and want to have a really stable pulling situation. I would rather have overkill than underkill or meet requirements. Well that and I grew up with trucks and I have missed driving a powerful truck for a long time. Love the air horns too! Oh I should say, I am a total car fanatic type of girl, so you know I am going to be making it really cool!

Do you have a small table of RPM to MPH? Like at 60 mph what is rpm? At 70 mph what is rpm? I like to know those numbers to pick what rpm is best fuel economy? Do you know that? The new 2020 truck still has 430 gears but now has a 10 speed transmission! How will fuel economy be?

Lots of upgrades for the truck...if you don't mind telling...do you work with this truck or the mods were just for your 5th wheel?

Your truck gives mine hope for better fuel economy. The lie-o-meter is indeed way off. As far as the ride is concerned, not sure if you meant as compared to the same generation F250/350... but I can tell you that compared to the 2015 F350 dually, this thing rides incredibly. One of the biggest differences in MPG between your towing and mine - even though it's an identical truck and almost identical size/weight 5th wheel; is the fact that I tow in a much more mountainous area... anywhere I go outside of the Phoenix area is gonna hit 8000ft altitude pretty quick. still I averaged 9mpg for the first tow with the truck still being under 4k miles... hopefully that'll go back to where the 2015 F350 was - 11ish

So how comfortable would you be towing a fifth wheel trailer with a pin weight of 4000lb and total gross weight of 24000 lbs?

4,850lb.payload and 4,500lb. bed or reserve capacity for camper. So it allows 350lbs. of cab capacity, just 2 people. That's how it works? Can you elaborate?

....Biggest Dually!!!!! which most definitely the answer is yeah it is the biggest truck ever made. Buddy of mine has the limited (F450) and he's 6'11 giant 22/23 years old like myself and he drives that big huge thing around.

I have the 2017 F350 dually 4x4 XLT with the 410 rear. I tow a 6000lb sliding axle trailer with loads up to 15,000lbs. Average 20,000lbs towing. It's been great at towing that weight with ease up and downhills of New England. I have 30,000miles on it so far in one year ownership, no issues, regular towing maintenance. Average 8mpg towing. Great vehicle so far just needs 6 tires, at least their not 19.5...

Your locale looks beautiful, where do you drive Buddy? I love all the openness of the rural area. I tend to see alot of our farm land going way of developments and it saddens me how the farms are rare nothing quite like seeing cows, horses, goats, sheep, and other farm critters lol. Where you are looks like you still have some farms. Lol hope you're well.

I would like to ask a question. I am considering an f450. I cringe at the thought of it sitting outside in the weather day in and day out. It would not be a daily driver. Question: Can a stock f450 fit through a standard 7x9 residential garage door? Garage is plenty deep enough. But has anyone tried it and do you have pictures (or better yet a video)? Thanks.

I put only 3,500 miles on my 2005 f150 since January. I cant imagine putting 10,000 to 12,000 miles, or more, on a vehicle every year. Maybe I just have the luxary of not having to drive so much or I dont enjoy as much as yourself or others do!

All I can say is check, check, check your sunroof. Mine popped and leaked...ford replaced the interior roof and carpeting.
Side note: update your sync 3 and you can run Waze as your nav...

Thanks for the great videos and content you put out. Really enjoy!!!
    Question
I have owned many Ford and GM HD trucks. Always liked the GM HDs better due to a better drive, liked the interiors better, transmission and far better front suspensions. We had far less trouble with The GM than the Fords.
We maintained our fleet very very well. But with the Fords, we had constant transmission/converter problems and front end ate tires like candy forcing us to realign and rotate all the time.
Have you had those issues as well or heard of?
I ask because I will be buying a duality this year to pull a fifth wheel. So looking at the 3 Amigos to decide which one.

You in Corpus. If so I wish I had known. I was down last week. Great videos. What are you’re thought on the newer truck choices? 2020’s & 2021’s. I’ve heard some issue with the CP4 system and the 10 speed trannies. I’m seriously looking at the F450. Not sure about the newer truck and their prices. Or buy one a couple of years older. I’d appreciate any info on them or even the 3500, 4500,5500 Dodges.
