    Dos2 really is incredible. I was one of those people that got immersed in the FromSoft games (Bloodborne and the Souls series) and no other game could compete for my attention- until I gave Dos2 a try and then I was hooked. I couldn’t stop playing it and thinking about it.

      I think of it more as a double edge sword. On the one hand it's great that they're getting talked about. On the other a magnifying glass is looming over there studio right now, watching their every move by the greater gaming world. If they make one single mistake, it's CDPR all over again. And yes, quite an over exaggeration on my part, but the fact that Cyberpunk 2077 got that much scrutiny and still does *even* with all of the fixes and the like, there are some who won't see it that way, let alone play it. Probably a minority in that juncture but there are a group of people who won't play it because of that "press". They can still be themselves but as of this very moment as I'm typing this, literally everyone and their mother and father are watching and listening in on the studio that brought a game considered "questionable" in terms of game design philosophy. By some game studios no less. And we haven't even scratched the surface yet it's not even funny. Much love and respect.

    I was really waiting for this after people had time to play through BG3. I'm on the final fight in that game, but as I get close to wrapping it up, I couldn't stop thinking about DOS2. It's a much tighter experience for me and I love the characters so much. The gameplay is so refined and yet so fluid. Personally, I think it walks that blade a lot more finely than BG3. Of course, I don't think that makes BG3 better or worse. I'm glad that we have both, but I would urge people not to let the size and newness of BG3 to overshadow DOS2. It really stands on its own and shouldn't be brushed under the rug.

      I agree that BG3 was hamstrung by the 5E ruleset. if Larion was allowed to go more wild (like with the fixes to the Monk) I think there would have be a ton more build diversity. I look forward to DOS3 as they will likely take the best parts of the BG3 gameplay and rebrand them without WOTC looking over their shoulder.

    Personally I preferred DOS2's action point system and spell cooldown for the combat turns. I was also a very big fan for wit determining initiative. Overall I feel it was a bit more fluid and easier to get the mechanics and build style than BG3. I'm really keen to see what lessons larian take from bg3 for their next game and I hope it also includes another collab with Chris avellone

    • @johanax9867
      @johanax9867 Před 6 měsíci +3

      Same. I don't like the spellcasting in BG3, since everything you do is locked to spell slots that only regenerates on a long rest (some items can give you slots back). DOS2 is not part of DnD, which is why it feels more like an ARPG with turn based combat, which I like. I prefer the skill/spell school system where you can basically create your own class and see how well you can do, over the set classes that BG3 has. Same thing with the loot system. You gain loot more often and it has more stats. In BG3 there is just Armour Class for defense and think like spell attack or saving throws.

    As soon as I saw Larian's logo with BG3 I knew I had to play, I bought it the first day of early access due to my trust in their enthusiasm, a trust well placed. 300hr in BG3, and I'm still seeing stuff on CZcams that I didn't know. I hope to get a DoS3 and BG4 in the next decade.

    I enjoy both games but I favor BG3 pretty heavily. The cinematic presentation goes a long way for deeper immersion for me. DOS2 also has this sort of goofier vibe to it while still having very mature themes, it doesn't take itself as seriously as BG3 much to it's detriment in my opinion. I like the combat more in BG3 as well. I found the surface effects in DOS2 combat overdone to an annoying level and the armour system felt meaningless. I think the divinty action point system could be superior to 5e but it needs a lot of work. I hope when they inevitably make DOS3 they take all the best elements from both games and come up with something all together better than both

    I was honestly really bummed when the lions share of environmental effects from DOS2 didn't make it to BG3. the idea of spells and abilities changing based on the elemental surfaces gave a ton of variety to playstyles and class combos for the party. I feel it most in the Archer archetype as BG3 archers feel really flat versus the mobile "debuffing" playstyle of DOS2 archer.
    I cant ignore DOS2's endgame and the creative decision of restricting the group for the final chapter as it felt like a betrayal of everything building up to that point, however the gameplay before that point was 10/10 for me. DOS2 is the reason why BG3 ran so smooth so hearing that DOS3 is on the horizon is really exciting.

    • @Saxpunch
      @Saxpunch Před 7 měsíci

      Regarding your issue with the endgame, that kind of depends on your actions throughout the game leading up to the finale. I conversely appreciate that ignoring or overruling your companions can quite easily lead them to abandon you in turn at the end - but if you stick by them, they’ll stick by you and you’ll enjoy a much larger party at the end.
      I really couldn’t stand the plot-twist dumps at the last minute of the narrative however. Story-wise, the game turns into a dumpster fire after act 2, which is a real shame.

    • @bobnewkirk7003
      @bobnewkirk7003 Před 7 měsíci

      @@Saxpunch the whole "Only one" plotline is where I have issue with the game. The entire rest of the game you are exploring your companions backstory, building relationships and group synergy then all of that is cast aside at endgame. Swapping to mercs to make it through to the end, or just saying "screw it" and rolling a Lone Wolf build completely changed the game for me for the worse. at least in BG3 we can build those relationships and see them fully play out by the end.

      They are different especially in combat.
      The combat system in
      DOS2 is not exactly D&D.
      Instead of having specific slot for movement, action etc, it has total points that u can use any way u like. For eg, if u are an archer and not moving much, u can use the points for attacking. U can attack multiple times depending on how many points u have and how much each action cost.
      U can even use the whole points for movement if u want.
      It also has armor system where the enemy has physical and magical armors. U have to compeletely damage either of the armors before u can damage the hp. So u kinda have to stick to 1 type of attack (physical or magical) to be effective. For eg, if the physical armor has already broken, but the magical armor is still intact, if u attack with magical attack, it won’t reduce the hp.
      It also uses cooldown system, whereby the spells has certain length of cooldown times (how many rounds) before u can use it again, instead of having specific number of spells u can use per rest like in BG3.
      There’s no rest per se in DOS2. U don’t go to camp to rest etc.
      There’s this bedrolls that u can find, which u can use to rest and completely restore your hp.
      Apart from that, it has similar interaction with the surrounding as BG3.
      There’s lots of high grounds, similar to BG3.
      There’s no cut scenes like BG3, but everthing is voice acted.

      @@azku To add to the above points,
      Level design is much better in BG3. There isn't anything like the Goblin base or Moonrise towers in DOS2.
      The narrative tone is more morally gray than BG3 but at the same time not as impactful as BG3.
      Companions in DOS2 are interesting in that each of them have unique goals and motivations compared to BG3 where it is all some variety of freeing your companions from their abusers. But even so companions in BG3 have more dialogue, unique romance scenes, party banter (companions in DOS2 will barely acknowledge each other) and the cutscenes make BG3 companions more memorable.
      You can't shove or grab enemies like in BG3. You can teleport enemies around but there are no chasms for instant KOs though there very rare opportunities when you can teleport enemies to a place or surface that can kill them instantly.
      Also you can't talk your way out of combat as often in DOS 2.
      Melee oriented builds have more fun skills in DOS 2 than BG3. For instance being a rogue in BG3 is mainly focused on hiding and using sneak attacks whereas in DOS2 you have multiple skills unique to rogues like leaping behind an enemy prince of persia style and striking them from the back or attacks that can penetrate through armor, induce a status effect making health potions toxic to the enemy, etc.
      And multiclassing is much more seamless in DOS2 as it has a point based system.
      Magic builds are better in DOS 2 as they can cast more than once in their turn. You often don't have to waste an entire turn to cast a buff. After a relatively powerful AOE attack you will still have enough action points to cast simple buffs like armor spells or heal or teleport to another location.
      It's a personal thing but I prefer BG3's more "open style" Magic compared to DOS2's heavy focus on elemental styles.
      The final act in DOS2 is underwhelming compared to BG3's overwhelming final act. There doesn't feel like there's much to do.
      Ending in BG3 was much more satisfying and conclusive. DoS 2's ending didn't make sense to me even if you got the best one.

      So many things are better in Divinity than BG 3 because of the D&D mess they put in it. We only wanted the Forgotten Realms world to play in, not the terrible D&D mechanics that do not belong in a computer game.

    I would love to see a breakdown of what I consider the best quest reward that isn't a piece of gear. Lohse's song. I remember sitting in amazement, with my friend, as she broke out the lute after killing the Doctor, I got chills up my spine. As a Boomer Gamer, who started with pong, I still think that moment, that fantastic song, that unusual payoff; was one of the best quest rewards of all time.

    i started with bg3 then went to dos2 because of how much i enjoyed it. i love both games, i’ll definitely be playing both to exhaustion. i do think that bg3 worked a lot harder on the companions and interactions, they had something to say about everything and it really felt like they were there with you for the journey and growing with you. dos2 had great companions, too, but they only really had something to say when main story or personal quest events happened. it also broke immersion a bit when NPCs kept repeating the same dialogues to each other over and over again (driftwood i’m looking at you). dos2 had a much more fun and in depth combat system imo tho. i personally enjoyed bg3 more, but both are a couple of my favorite games.
