  • Who is ultimately in charge of the open source Postgres community? EDB Technical Fellow Marc Linster, PhD sits down with EDB Vice President, Postgres Evangelist Bruce Momjian to answer this question.
Watch the full video as Bruce and Marc cover topics including:
    1. I have heard about the 'Core Team', and 'Committers', but I don't really understand who is who, and what they all do. Can you walk me through the major organizational components?
    2. Contributing code seems to be the most important thing that people do. How does that work, who does it, and most important, who controls what is submitted?
    3. In this context I have heard about 'commit fests'. Who organizes those? Do people get invited?e
    4. PGDG seems to be made up of many regional or national organizations. It seems that some, like the Canadian organization, play special roles. Can you explain that?
    5. I have seen the list of committers, major contributors, and named contributors on PostgreSQL.org. How does one become a committer?
    6. How does one become a major contributor or a named contributor?
    7. There appear to be so many things happening besides contributing code, such as packaging and releasing, organization of events, trademarks, security, code of conduct --- how is all of that organized?
8.How many people (roughly) are actively involved with Postgres - including the work on the code, all the other committees and teams, the local events, etc?
    9. How would you describe the overarching organizational principle? It seems to be a democracy at the local and regional level (I am a member of PG US and I participate in the voting for the board on an annual basis), but how does it work at the global level?
    10. Any concerns about how the community will deal with the huge success of Postgres and potentially competing interests or tensions between the companies that provide a lot of the committers and contributors? I am thinking about Azure, AWS, and Google - rivals in the marketplace, and collaborators on the software
