The open source Postgres Community: Who is ultimately in charge?
Who is ultimately in charge of the open source Postgres community? EDB Technical Fellow Marc Linster, PhD sits down with EDB Vice President, Postgres Evangelist Bruce Momjian to answer this question.
Watch the full video as Bruce and Marc cover topics including:
1. I have heard about the 'Core Team', and 'Committers', but I don't really understand who is who, and what they all do. Can you walk me through the major organizational components?
2. Contributing code seems to be the most important thing that people do. How does that work, who does it, and most important, who controls what is submitted?
3. In this context I have heard about 'commit fests'. Who organizes those? Do people get invited?e
4. PGDG seems to be made up of many regional or national organizations. It seems that some, like the Canadian organization, play special roles. Can you explain that?
5. I have seen the list of committers, major contributors, and named contributors on PostgreSQL.org. How does one become a committer?
6. How does one become a major contributor or a named contributor?
7. There appear to be so many things happening besides contributing code, such as packaging and releasing, organization of events, trademarks, security, code of conduct --- how is all of that organized?
8.How many people (roughly) are actively involved with Postgres - including the work on the code, all the other committees and teams, the local events, etc?
9. How would you describe the overarching organizational principle? It seems to be a democracy at the local and regional level (I am a member of PG US and I participate in the voting for the board on an annual basis), but how does it work at the global level?
10. Any concerns about how the community will deal with the huge success of Postgres and potentially competing interests or tensions between the companies that provide a lot of the committers and contributors? I am thinking about Azure, AWS, and Google - rivals in the marketplace, and collaborators on the software

pretty good
24:54 says EXPLAIN ANALYZE is not completely accurate either. Which statistics from EXPLAIN ANALYZE are not accurate? Anyway to make it accurate?

thank u for help
Can you guys re-release this lecture with better audio?
Neat talk, well done and well presented, thanks.
Audio is very low.
Good video👍
No.
The way you explain is fantastic. Please share the pre-installation steps as well.
Thanks great presentation,

Thank u Sir Good explanation.
Very good video. How were you able to have all columns on the y axis. Only the PK is appearing on my Y axis.
how much cost will it incur is it free?
it is not a perfect tutorial for beginner, if you are beginner please don't see thsi video, it makes you confuse.
Что она говорит? На каком языке? Ни фуя не понятно
do you have a video on How to install the pldgbapi extension?
Thank you for a very interesting presentation. What are the tradeoffs with using a single table approach as shown in this example, vs a separate table for the relationships? Would there be any good reasons to choose one over the other? Thanks!
Is there a way for pgAdmin to generate the visualization of already existing tables? While you draw the tables and draw the connections, the pgAdmin generated queries to create the tables in database, but is it possible to do it opposite way? I have database with tables that are created by python and I want them to be displayed graphically like you draw them. Thanks in advance!
Nevermind, I've actually figured it out myself -> Right mouse click on database and "ERD For Database" :)
thanks
i can see the pg admin ubuntu installed on my system but when i click it, it wont open.
Please someone correct me if I'm wrong, but he didn't address the ability to add and query properties of edges. It does not seem possible given his modeling assumptions. His examples were based in a single table (each row is a node) so you could only add properties to nodes (by adding columns to that table).

excellent video!
Thanks Simon, this helped me a lot just now!
Hi , thanks for the video,. How I can contact you for guidance and support?
Thanks for this, I just went through a very similar exercise on production tables before finding this video and almost everything you covered overlapped with my observations. I wasn't creating temporary tables from underlying production data but was generating table copies in the same transaction as the tests, so your comment about vacuum (+analyze) not running within the first minute or so explained why I needed to add an analyze statement to pick an appropriate join strategy, other than e.g. merge joins. I've also experienced joining my own (large) column metadata tables to pg_catalog tables e.g. pg_class and have seen that blow up with a nested loop. I'm guessing you can't add an index or run analyze on those system tables (need to check) so the only route open to me was to encourage the optimiser to use hash joins with enable_nestloop=off
Great Session
