The Calamity Mod is a large content mod for Terraria which adds many hours of endgame content and dozens of enemies and bosses dispersed throughout the vanilla game's progression. The Calamity Mod also features several harder difficulty modes, five new biomes and new structures, a new class, a new leveling mechanic, more than thirty new songs, over fifty recipes for previously uncraftable vanilla items and other assorted changes to vanilla gameplay.
True melee may refer to several things in the Calamity Mod:
"True melee strikes" are strikes by a melee weapon that are not caused by projectiles. This usually refers to hits done with the blades of swords and spears, although there are some exceptions.
"True melee damage" refers to damage done by true melee strikes. This damage is increased by certain accessories that boost true melee damage specifically, as well as activate certain effects, which are listed below.
"True melee weapons" are a term used to refer to melee weapons that either do not fire projectiles or only do so upon landing true melee strikes, linking back to previous versions of true melee.

The phaseblades aren't that much work and they're super overpowered since they ignore 100% of enemy defense

Of course the star wars fan is recommending off brand light sabers
They are significantly weaker than blade of grass at that point of the game really. There's not much armor to speak of anyway.
So you tellin me that the phaseblades can beat the dungeon guardian
You should try hardmode swords, especially the excalibur. Despite gitgud saying that spears are better, some swords are have really good bonuses, like you saw with the phoenix blade. Swords aren't that bad just because you cant aim with it, its worth the risk most of the time. Also true melee isn't about attacking all the time, some fights would require fiding the right moment to strike and deal really good damage values, especially with rage and adrenaline. You can take this example from wall of flesh were you just need a big arena full of platforms and avoid the lasers until you get enough time to strike.
Fun fact: malice mode weapons now have 10% chance of droping from bosses they did drop before.
Bit late given how far you are in this run but if you ever find yourself doing another true melee run, or even just feel like using the class for the mechs, grab Aftershock. Rains bouncing piercing boulders on every hit for 100ish damage. Absolutely decimates Destroyer.

This is a really cool series! I’m currently doing my true melee run on malice mode and it’s definitely quite a difficulty spike but I’m enjoying it! Just beat the wall of flesh and scared at the thought of twins

Since most of your videos focus on either calamity or vanilla, would you be willing to branch out into other mods? I’d love to see, for example, a polarities “Atlatl-only” run or a split “Racquet-only” run.

Some things to note:
MOAB is a pretty terrible accessory. It counts as wings which caps horizontal speed, meaning you don't get the insane horizotal mobility of bundle. It also gives the upward speed in jumps, meaning it doesn't have the control of wings. Basically, it's the worst of both worlds. The best post plantera wings are generally Mothron, as they give good stat boosts and let you move very fast.
Turtle armor is really bad before the 1.4 terraria update. I recommend either going for Chlorophyte mask + Turtle shell + Hallowed greaves for absurd damage, or Reaver armor tanky set to become super tanky.

True melee is way too fun - definitely my favourite class
When you were talking about true melee PvP nightmare, my first thought was how I stunlocked a player with Night's Edge using a Staff of Regrowth, but first you were just in the Jungle and second you wouldn't need it later down the line. My next thought was anything like it, so I guessed Muramasa just as you mentioned the Night's Edge needing 4 swords.
Trust me, Staff of Regrowth is one of the best melee dueling weapons despite it dealing only 1 damage against armored melee opponents. It hits fast and has *brutal* knockback
ik its stunlock. Thats cause i use it against my friends and they get pissed off. But cobalt shield stops it completely.

After a Shameful gold broadsword, you get a Legendary Grass Blade, RNG gods.
The cryogen true melee hammer is insanely good, I'd recommend it for the destroyer if you can beat cryo before
This run is honestly much easier with a mod for directional broadsword swings, just makes the broadsword actually swing towards your cursor allowing you to hit creatures under you as well.
Directional melee could help with this challenge. It lets you sort of slightly aim the arc of the swing towards your cursor, sort of like the shortswords do in 1.4, but with every melee wep

Nice vid! It wasn't the Calamity devs that disabled target dummies during boss fights by the way, vanilla did that to stop invincibility setups with slime mount for bosses

I absolutely LOVE true melee in calamity! I alone did a melee ( tried to as much as i could use true melee weapons) on master malice combinations. It was glorious!

Hey, Phantasm i have not checked yet but can you do something like a true mage run? Ik it sounds weird but like so many mage weapons are kind of not mage (for example things like space gun or sky fracture) since the other classes do those kind of things already (like space gun is kind of ranger and how sky fracture is kind of melee) this challenge is probably too easy but maybe you can add some other twist? Anyways great vid! i hope to see more in the future (also gl with all the challenges you do in the future)
Directional melee mod can be very useful and fun for a challenge like this

I'm doing a hybrid melee/sentry setup, I unnerfed the summoner 50% damage decrease and have been enjoying it so far.
I think a good mod to use with this challenge was the cooler weapons mod ad it makes melee weapons visuals look super cool

Why is Phantasm so good at this
Alright, so I have almost completed all of calamity with true melee on death mode. What I personally did for WoF was wait for my adrenaline to charge and then use some purified jam, which makes you invulnerable for 5 seconds to just deal dmg. Also works for polterghast.
Also, the destroyer is the easiest mech boss because of the Aftershock, which absolutely tears it apart.
for a starter weapon, if u find the stylist her scisors she sells have carried me up to wof(have yet to fight it), im not doing a pure true melee(i dont think) but i have used those alongside the lights bane and EoC sword to inflict debufs then speed attack the fuck outa shit. boss rushed all of prehardmode(little buffs that i got from slimes) with no arena.
lol when i was doing my true melee malice master run with a friend of mine we got stuck at cryogen for the longest amount of time, it took us like 3 days of playing before we managed to kill him
I mean, you could also fish for that sword from crates. I heard it's pretty good
I've made this challenge with a friend (i was playing true melee and he was playing only melee with proyectiles lol)
No one gonna talk about how when they made the gold broadsword he got shoddy the first time and then legendary the second time? Now that is some luck. Adding he also got legendary on the blade of grass first attempt. Also adding he got legendary on the fiery great sword first try???
Idk if this was done with the biome blades rework, but its true melee now
I would actually recommend Feller of Evergreens as an early game pick, only needs silver and wood, and beats out gold broadsword quite well.

This kinda run is fun to do it’s not really difficult as you can cheese a lot of bosses with adrenaline facetanking since true melee Dps is insane

Tbh, in classic mode, I easily defeated mechanics with the fractured ark, but in rev mode, I was dying before reaching 70% of their hp (50% on skeletron prime)

If this is the newest version of calamity (biome blade rework) then you might have trouble once you get to devourer of God's cause a bug won't let it drop loot rn

be careful what you call impossible, before you know it you'll have somebody wild enough to actually complete it.
The fact you used minions concerns me a bit. I think true melee as just weapons that only creates projectiles on true melee strike or doesn't creates projectiles at all (except Fungal Symbiote, which is considered true melee). For post moon lord, Stellar Striker is a really good alternative. Then, after Providence, there is the Holy Collider, which creates homing flames that deals a lot of damage. Post-Polter has The Last Mourning, perfect against the sentinels and DoG. Then the Enforcer, even better. Dragon Rage from Yharon isn't that good, but a good alternative against Thanatos.

everything is like 1 difficulty, im gonna be honest queen bee is probably the hardest pre-hardmode boss. couldn't defeat until before wof because it took so long to kill her. every other boss is quite easy though

If playirime was able to beat vanilla terraria using true melee weapons in master mode,then yeah, of course it's possible in calamity since true melee is stronger in modded than vanilla.
