  • We're going to use our front wheel pivot to start getting up onto obstacles - the same exact technique that we use for switchbacks and moving the back wheel around. It's a combination of the front wheel lift (unweight), the endo, and the front wheel pivot.
Go back to that flat ground practice to get your pivots working, and then start this drill by trying to come as parallel as possible to the obstacle, so you minimize the movement of the pivot. This should make it easy enough to build confidence, and then you can go higher and farther as you go.
Check out this video if you want to spend a bit more time focusing in on the front wheel pivot: • The Single Best Skill ...

Watching you has got me doing pivots onto curbs and being able to ride a 10cm wide skinny, so, thanks!

Thanks for these series of exercises. I've begun many of them. I can't say I've got any of them nailed but I'm improving and it really has helped me a lot in confidence and handling out on the trails.
    You have my gratitude.

Awesome! I'm so glad to hear it. Practice makes progress - the more time you spend with these drills, the easier they'll become. Have fun! :)

Thanks for this series, I've had a blast so far. I'm catching with the lessons but so far I can (finally) track-stand, pivot each end and hop sideways (kinda).
Nothing is particularly impressive for an on looker yet but just practising is so much fun that I really look forward to sneaking out before work each morning. :D

Struggled a bit with this but got it 3× up a curb. Probably could have done better with more warmup. Got the slow roll down from yesterday's challenge as slow and high as I could (about 18") but didn't manage to scrape my bashguard.

Hey Arron! I was Wondering of you could do a whip tutorial for dirt jumps? the reason i comment on this video, is because i am wondering if they are connected in any way? You have really helped my MTB so far!
    Thanks!

Glad that my videos have been useful! I'm probably not the best rider to do a whip tutorial, but I've been talking with Eric Porter about doing a jump tutorial later this summer. Stay tuned!

Hello, what bike do you have? Do you think I can learn tricks easily with a L 29" hardtail mtb me being 1,75m?

Locking out the fork will help. And really exaggerating your unweighting movements, shifting your body weight forward and rearward farther than you’d think necessary, will help too. You’ll get this info as you go through the videos from day 1.

Definitely! My next series is going to be on a 29" bike - same principles apply! :)
