One of my Shih tzu dogs recently passed away. She was about 16 and half. She was so smart, and actually kind of snotty. We got her while living in FL, so we called her a southern belle. Lol I had her from 5th grade until not long again (I’m 27) so she lived through many big milestones for me. I’m so thankful for the time I had with her.❤️

I lost my lab back well mostly my grandma's but also mine in 2018 I have Maggy since then a little shih tzu and I love her very much and can't imagine my life without her. I had her since she was a baby, poor girl with giardia I nursed her back to health, I try taking her to the groomers or do it myself when money is short so she is kept with the puppy coat and without knots. She is a funny character and my best friend that helped me through so much and was always there in my worst and best days. Sending much love

I can honestly say, my Shih Tzu, Lilo, used to be the kindest heart I've ever met- and I'm not just saying it 'cause I owned him. He was so cuddly and easy going, playful and understanding, he was actually more like a person than a typical dog. Surely a breed with a fine character. I miss him every day...
I just turned 17, and I have always always wanted a dog. It's all ive asked for every single birthday and my parents always said no. My mum bestfriend became very ill with cancer again and she just bought a Shih Tzu puppy named William, and she was going away for the weekend and we agreed to have him until she got back and looked for a new home. William didn't end up going home, because we decided to have him. He is 7 months now, and I have never loved something so much in my life, he is my body and soul, he is dead gorgeous. Everywhere I go, all we get is "he is the most beautiful Shih tzu we have ever seen" in every vets, groomers and people just passing by. He is a beautiful dog, he really is. I love him so much.

Your mother's friend, who was sick with cancer, let you watch her dog for the weekend and I guess while she was looking for a new place to stay, and then you just...decided to keep her dog? So you stole someone's dog, someone that was sick with cancer? Or is there something missing to this, like the friend died from her cancer or something?
You couldn't have got it more wrong this made me laugh. Our friend got diagnosed with Cancer (she lived with her mum at the time with William) her mum suddenly died and she was also very ill with cancer. She had to arrange all the funeral and sort that all out as her mum also left behind a very disabled adopted son. She had asked us to care of William over the weekend until we could find a new home for him and we said to her we will have him and that was that. She comes round all the time and sees him, her caner is getting better too. We didn't steal him hahaha she was going to rehome him
I don't get the"hard to train" comment... We had a shih-tzu from 8wks of age in 1998 thru his passing in 2008, and he was the smartest damn dog I ever saw! potty trained himself to go in a specific spot in the yard...I literally took him to that spot may- be 20 times in one week, and after that all I had to do was open the back door and say "go potty" and he went right to the spot, did his thing, and ran back to the door! He knew all his toys in his toy box, I f I said "go get your burger, or go get you elmo, he would nose and paw thru the toy box till he got the appropriate toy...he knew "sit", "shake", "lay down", "no", and "stay"...We recently broke down and got another shih-tzu thru the rescue foundation, he is 4 months old, and if I swear he is the same dog! He literally does everything the former lil guy did...with virtually no training, he is just as smart!
Extremely smart. If you know how to train dogs they won't be a problem. But that smartness can also turn into stubbornness and disobedience when not trained well.
I rescued a pure bred shih tzu she is 2 years old. and she is super smart. you tell her no! with out yelling and she stops instantly, I've had her 2 weeks and not a single accident. she's great with all my other farm critters cats and dogs. she has been a blessing in my life
Shih tzus are really loyal, they have a 5/5 with cats, other animals, and other dogs if I am not mistaken. Shih are extremely loyal and will love anybody. You wont regret rescuing that shih tzu. iv got 2 :)

I have a shih tzu named Bella! I have her in a puppy cut, and she is the cutest thing ever! I've had her for a couple months now, and she is six. I got her for Christmas when I was twelve. She didn't know any tricks when I got her, but I taught her quite a bit. So far I taught her sit, stay, come, lie down, and play dead. She is smart for a shih tzu, at least I think she is. She is also potty trained, but it took her a very long time to learn it. She sneezes a lot though. (most shih tzus sneeze). She is really lazy, but when I leave the house and come back she runs all of the house and gives me all of her toys! Even when I am gone for a couple seconds! She is extremely picky, so I have to make her homemade dog treats. I definitely recommend taking care of a shih tzu to everyone! They will take your heart away!

I adopted my little guy in 2016. This dog is one of the best behaved dogs around infants and toddlers I've ever seen. He turns into a completely different animal when he sees babies and small children. He calms down and becomes gentle and shares his toys. Definitely recommend adopting a Shih Tzu if you have kids. Great nanny dog.
We had one back in 1985. Actually, my grandmother adopted him from one of those adoption homes. His name was ralph. He went almost everywhere with us. We had him from 1985 until 94. Unfortunately, we had to put him down because he was getting sick. I miss him terribly.

I have a Shi Tzu mutt with a poodle like coat. Her name is Coco and she's about 12 years old. The eye problems part is so true cause she's blind and both eyes and it's sad seeing her bump into things. She never knows what right in front of her face...that is until she hits it of course. Whenever we call her name in a high pitched voice she still acts like a lil puppy & sometimes walks with some pep in her step for such an old dog ❤ I'm glad she's still here, I'm gonna miss her when she's gone
Shih Tzu's are awesome. Spunky, hilarious little dogs with a lot of attitude. A great personality, and the cutest under bite that adds even more charm :3 I love them
My family had a Shih Tzu that lived for 17 years (3 months shy of 18), so I will readily attest to the longevity of the breed. They do have tendency towards eye issues, but keep the hair trimmed and veterinarians can prescribe eyedrops if necessary (we never had the long show-dog look, always the puppy cut). If you want a dog that can fit in your lap, won't shed (a big plus for my mother), and doesn't require a large space, Shih Tzus are great.
I have a little chewbacca Shih Tzu she is the love of my life, my best friend that is always there for me and her name is Maggy. She is so loving, cute, happy loyal and an excellent friend and part of the family. Can't imagine the day she will be gone so I enjoy every second I have with her because she was there at my worst of times and some of my best of times I just wished she could come to me in certain trips and see the world with me. I go for a day and come home from work and it's like the first time she is seeing me and I know that when I first looked into her puppy eyes when we picked her up and she had worms and I looked after her. She follows me everywhere around the house, waits for me, stays by my side when I'm ill. She's my best friend and I love her very much. My shih Tzu x pug was super easy to train, and he never whines, always comes instantly when called, stops to obey at the slightest command, and he loves kids and cuddles. My previous (and only) dog was a Jack (Parson) Russell, so I had no idea dogs could be so delightful!
I just recently got a shih tzu puppy and boy are they hard work! Training is like hell, but I guess coming from someone who is used to the train ability of a German shepherd that's a given. However these dogs are absolutely stunningx💖
We recently obtained our daughter. She's my third child and we are so blessed to have our Oreo with us. Oreo is 3.5 months old. We have her on high quality food with dog formulated probiotics and cranberry chews to ensure her UT and gut are healthy. We also started brushing her teeth and will continue to do so because the breeds are prone to tooth decay. Oreo will also be kept on a grooming schedule because if the hair on her face isn't maintained, the hair can get trapped in her mouth causing oral decay. These are things to look out for especially in long haired doggos.
My Shih Tzu, Lacey, loves to play! But she also loves to cuddle. She is what helped my mom get through the hard times after her stroke. Dogs are not the best pets, they are the best of friends.
I had a shih tzu named Marley that I got on Valentines Day of 2015. Then on April 20 we took her in to get her spayed and she died after the operation. I miss her so much and she was so amazing. I am going to be getting another small dog soon but I think that I am getting either a Havanese or a Shipoo.

I love my family shih tzu. He’s on the bigger side of the breed, but he’s one of the most loving and loyal dogs. It’s taken him 8 years to be completely obedient to coming but we also weren’t great at stressing coming on our acreage. I have also never seen a dog so loyal, he is constantly by my dad and always regulating the other dogs according to what he thinks his masters wishes are. He’s reputed among family and friends as being a “grumpy old man”, but the shih tzu we had before him was more free spirited in what she did, but she was still continually loyal and instead of being with my dad as much as possible, she was more interested in spreading her time among the whole family. It’s fun how within a breed each dog can be so unique too
My family got 2 shiu tzu's when I was very very young, they're older than me I think. Its been 16 years and they've had two litters of puppies and are still going strong and are a great little old couple!

My shih tzu looked like the shorter haired ones as a puppy, but now he doesn't even look like one! He has a long body with a longer than usual snout. Yet...they said he was a pure breed which is pretty hard to believe. Most people call him ugly but i find he is so cute and I love him so much! He just turned 9 recently and his health is alright but he has had an off/on herniated disk :( so we have to help him up the couch, stairs, etc.. Also like the guy said in the video they have eye problems and mine always has brown gunk under his eyes and he also is a bit cross eyed :/ but he's a good dog.

Mine learned his name in only one day and learned to go to his puppy pads in 3 hours. They're extremely intelligent!

Whenever we call her name in a high pitched voice she still acts like a lil puppy & sometimes walks with some pep in her step for such an old dog ❤ I'm glad she's still here, I'm gonna miss her when she's gone
Shih Tzu's are awesome. Spunky, hilarious little dogs with a lot of attitude. A great personality, and the cutest under bite that adds even more charm :3 I love them

My family had a Shih Tzu that lived for 17 years (3 months shy of 18), so I will readily attest to the longevity of the breed. They do have tendency towards eye issues, but keep the hair trimmed and veterinarians can prescribe eyedrops if necessary (we never had the long show-dog look, always the puppy cut). If you want a dog that can fit in your lap, won't shed (a big plus for my mother), and doesn't require a large space, Shih Tzus are great.

I have a little chewbacca Shih Tzu she is the love of my life, my best friend that is always there for me and her name is Maggy. She is so loving, cute, happy loyal and an excellent friend and part of the family. Can't imagine the day she will be gone so I enjoy every second I have with her because she was there at my worst of times and some of my best of times I just wished she could come to me in certain trips and see the world with me. I go for a day and come home from work and it's like the first time she is seeing me and I know that when I first looked into her puppy eyes when we picked her up and she had worms and I looked after her. She follows me everywhere around the house, waits for me, stays by my side when I'm ill. She's my best friend and I love her very much. Couldn't ask for a better friend than her that loves me unconditionally. Dogs are the best.

My shih Tzu x pug was super easy to train, and he never whines, always comes instantly when called, stops to obey at the slightest command, and he loves kids and cuddles. My previous (and only) dog was a Jack (Parson) Russell, so I had no idea dogs could be so delightful!

I just recently got a shih tzu puppy and boy are they hard work! Training is like hell, but I guess coming from someone who is used to the train ability of a German shepherd that's a given. However these dogs are absolutely stunningx💖

aww i have one and hes 15 years old right now.
We recently obtained our daughter. She's my third child and we are so blessed to have our Oreo with us. Oreo is 3.5 months old. We have her on high quality food with dog formulated probiotics and cranberry chews to ensure her UT and gut are healthy. We also started brushing her teeth and will continue to do so because the breeds are prone to tooth decay. Oreo will also be kept on a grooming schedule because if the hair on her face isn't maintained, the hair can get trapped in her mouth causing oral decay. These are things to look out for especially in long haired doggos.
My Shih Tzu, Lacey, loves to play! But she also loves to cuddle. She is what helped my mom get through the hard times after her stroke. Dogs are not the best pets, they are the best of friends.
I had a shih tzu named Marley that I got on Valentines Day of 2015. Then on April 20 we took her in to get her spayed and she died after the operation. I miss her so much and she was so amazing. I am going to be getting another small dog soon but I think that I am getting either a Havanese or a Shipoo.

I love my family shih tzu. He’s on the bigger side of the breed, but he’s one of the most loving and loyal dogs. It’s taken him 8 years to be completely obedient to coming but we also weren’t great at stressing coming on our acreage. I have also never seen a dog so loyal, he is constantly by my dad and always regulating the other dogs according to what he thinks his masters wishes are. He’s reputed among family and friends as being a “grumpy old man”, but the shih tzu we had before him was more free spirited in what she did, but she was still continually loyal and instead of being with my dad as much as possible, she was more interested in spreading her time among the whole family. It’s fun how within a breed each dog can be so unique too
I watched this about 50 times when I was trying to choose what breed I should get when I get a puppy and now I have a shih tzu puppy named Gracie!
My family got 2 shiu tzu's when I was very very young, they're older than me I think. Its been 16 years and they've had two litters of puppies and are still going strong and are a great little old couple!

My shih tzu looked like the shorter haired ones as a puppy, but now he doesn't even look like one! He has a long body with a longer than usual snout. Yet...they said he was a pure breed which is pretty hard to believe. Most people call him ugly but i find he is so cute and I love him so much! He just turned 9 recently and his health is alright but he has had an off/on herniated disk :( so we have to help him up the couch, stairs, etc.. Also like the guy said in the video they have eye problems and mine always has brown gunk under his eyes and he also is a bit cross eyed :/ but he's a good dog.
