My 11 year old shih tzu, Toby, started snoring very loudly 8 months ago... ..which progressed to snorty, grunting sounds....even while awake. We took him to vet to get teeth cleaning as that was suggested may be the cause....it didn't help ....and after another five months the snorting got worse to where he seemed to be struggling to breath when he slept...we took him to internal medicine specialist which diagnosed it as likely cancer. I was not prepared for this and am 💔💔💔. He is only 11. I feel so guilty I didn't take care of my baby and get the proper tests done when there was still a chance. If your dog has these symptoms...take him/her to vet right away and insist on tests.

What kind of cancer? My shih tzu has just started having the weird snorting snore as if he’s having trouble getting air into lungs. Stomach breathing, tremors. The vet said it’s likely back pain and gave pain meds.

My Shih Tzu had Osteo Sarcoma, can't cure that, he was 11. My other Shih Tzu was 15.4 years old, became very ill, had seizures and I had to let him go.💔💔

Don't beat yourself up over this. Many cancers are not curable and if treated they always return after remission. Often cancer is detected when in advanced stages and in most cases it's too late . A CT/MRI could give better insight, except they are expensive.

We also have a puppy shih tzu and she has diarreah and vomit and feels weak. Then feb 8 2024 she died
