2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid Review | The RAV4 Woodland Is The "Off-Road" Hybrid For The Woodsy Crowd

  • The RAV4 Woodland seems to have been made exactly for me. I love high fuel economy, a comfortable ride, and I live out in the country where the higher profile all terrain tires come in handy. Does that turn the RAV4 Hybrid into a 40 MPG Subaru Forester? Not quite, but it's closer than it's ever been before...

I bought my Woodland a month ago, and have already put about 2,000 miles on it. The last several hundred, I removed the mud flaps and cross bars, and my MPG went up from ~38 -> ~42 (granted, I'm a pretty conservative driver).
Totally love it, it's perfect for living in the north bay area where I can do 90% of the exploring I'd do with a 4Runner, but without worrying about Cali gas prices. Lots of cool places to explore and drive off road!
Nice tip about the spare tire being able to hold a normal size one! I had no idea, and will definitely utilize that.

Thank you for keeping up the childseat fit testing. Even though our kids our out of child seats, even when they go to the booster seat, that extra space comes in handy to comfortably keeping my kids behind me. That’s the reason I moved up to a Bolt EUV from a Leaf and now drive an Ariya.

I have a 2024 RAV4 Hybrid Limited and I totally agree with Alex on this. The legroom and overall comfort is the only thing that holds the RAV4 back from being far and away the best compact SUV. I would still argue that it’s the best compact SUV available today, but what the RAV4 lacks makes the other options more competitive.

It definitely lacks significantly in terms of the interior. So bad that I would never buy one. I rather like the exterior look, but it’s so commonplace that I would also never acquire one for that reason either.

Perfect timing. I was just looking at the Woodland edition. We need an off-road capable vehicle but I did not want to be penalized with bad fuel economy. We already have a Toyota and have had zero issues with it over the 5 years we have had it and the first 2 years of free oil changes with Toyota Care were great. We usually keep our cars for a long time. This RAV4 Woodland fits the bill and the price it right. Thanks for the review. I also love the look of the vehicle.

The exterior is pretty cool, as the current generation RAV4 has an overall pleasing look. The window pillars look terrible in the matte finish though and make it look more like a budget vehicle than it should for the price. The interior is obviously horrendous and it’s not an inviting place to be in as a driver or passenger. I will never own a Toyota, but I hope the redesign gives people much more for their money.

Alex, Toyota is on pace to sell 500,000 RAV4s in the USA this year, imagine how many they could sell with rear leg room 2:24 that matches their chief rivals. 🤔Speaking of RAV4 second row seating, does anyone else remember when the RAV4 had a sliding 2nd row and ski pass through which also came in handy for carrying a few 2x4s? Why do features like this disappear? Looking forward to the next RAV4, an upgrade to the 245 HP Hybrid system would be most welcome. 🤞🤞

I hate all of that plastic underbody that's so prevalent on modern-day Toyotas. Yuck

CVT is biggest downside. Normal gears faster car and way more silent

The front of the RAV-4 is more baby Highlander than purely Tacoma. The NiMh battery is a massive negative. The use of a Li-ION battery would have saved weight and helped with all around performance, but Toyota went cheap and put a battery that will develop memory over time, decreasing its performance over the life of the vehicle. Still don't agree with Toyota's decision to use an eAWD setup because a physical connection AWD system would greatly increase the capability of the RAV-4 without hurting efficiency too much. For all Toyota harps on safety, having a physical connection to the rear wheels for a true AWD system is safer more often than an eAWD setup. And one final gripe: only one interior color choice ... and that choice is black. Yuck.

Nimh batteries don’t suffer from memory, that’s nicd that you’re thinking of. Nimh batteries in hybrid applications aren’t any heavier than lithium batteries due to t differing cooling requirements. Nimh is also less expensive, slightly easier to recycle, and has a negligible impact on fuel economy.

SMH, they have basically stopped upgrading for real. Just changes in colors and visual touches here and there.

I think that’s why some people like them. Not groundbreaking by any stretch but flushed out processes and technology which has a robust parts and supply network should any issues arise.

Won’t happen. The next generation Toyotas we haven’t even seen yet are already outdated 😂
In fact Toyotas more outdated than Infiniti. Ouch

You’re all hoping for a fantastic redesign of the rav4. Unfortunately when it comes out all of you will be incredibly disappointed
As usual from Toyota they always screw everything up. Just take a look at models like the NX LX RX RZ BZ4X Tundra Sequoia corolla grand highlander TX Crown GX 9th gen Camry, Land Cruiser crown signia and now the 4Runner.
You’re all overhyped for a redesign but it always ends up being severely underwhelming in the real world.
I can’t wait for you to be disheartened by the end result. Then you’ll wish you didn’t make fun of the biggest Toyota hater out there😉. because the hater knows the facts. 😂
