    I have grouted miles of tile. Best tip i could give that you skipped is take your damp sponge and go over the tile first slightly wetting it. That tip comes from lots of experience. It will make grout clean up 3 times easier. Then of course on a 45° and press in hard. Your forearms should be sore if doing it correctly.

    I’m just a random DIY guy and I’m wondering why you wouldn’t apply the grouting more deliberately on the grout lines, similarly to how you would plaster a joint rather than slobbering the grouting all over the tiles and making a mess that you inevitably have to clean up, not to mention the amount of grouting that would fall off The wall. When I do grouting, I just follow the lines and press as I go and then I finish off without typical 45° angle to clean up the surface and majority of the grouting goes where it needs to and a larger part of the tile remains clean and does not require endless Cleaning.

    I have to do my kitchen tiles, and I have been watching and watching your amazing videos, and I still wish I could hire you to do them😉. I have done a lot of DIY furniture but never tile. Maybe someday I will , I just have to keep watching your video in the meantime.
    Thanks for doing these videos

    Cheers Jeff!! Great work as always!! Looks superb. Congrats! Many thanks for your tips. I do your overnight cement/grout one as well! Annoys the heck out of me seeing 'tradies' spending a huge amount of water cleaning buckets and just wasting the clients water!! Here in Spain, water is precious, as it soon will be in more and more place!! The arrogance of some 'tradies' does my head in, very ease to see why the majority get a bad rep! Take care matey and all the best to you and your family.

    Hey there
    Just wanted to say you’ve been great to watch! I never had much experience with any home diy stuff. Then decided to frame, drywall, mud, and now painting my 1500sqf basement with pretty much only watching your videos. Thankyou so much!

    Hi Jeff, another great video! I know you’ve mentioned grouting tile corners so you have a backing for caulk, can you grout between the tile and tub as well to act as a backing?

    You can also use a Rubber mallet and just start whacking the bucket from the outside and the cement just comes right out in a few mins. Done it with thinset 4 times now, will try it with grout as well. Make sure to use only a rubber mallet and not a hammer lol.

    Jeff, I accidentally used that same floor grout in an old project from a few years ago and let it sit too long before wiping. We were chiseling and scraping out dried grout for days until it looked tolerable. Painful lesson learned.

    I'm thinking about installing 3x6 subway looking tile in my rentals. What are the pros and cons of black v.s. white grout? I should clarify a little more also lets also assume the tenant will never clean so after they move out which is easier to clean?

    Is the reason you used FA on the floor is because it has a built in sealer so it won’t stain/discolor in the future with foot traffic?

  • @dockeydidit

    For all those saying just do the grout lines he mentions in the shower tile video that he goes across the tiles at a 45 deg angle to push out all the air in the line and prevent bubbles that need to be fixed later. You then scrape the overflow off the tiles as you go which can be moved to the next area.

    Hi Jeff - newbie here checking in ! This is off above subject but now I’m a member I was looking for the CREW FORUM not sure if it’s availability all the time or not .. anyway my quick question is : we are finishing off a basement and have applied the underlayment and osb to the concrete floor now we are gluing the rigid insulation foamboard to the walls - at the place where the board insulation meets the concrete floor do I position the foam behind the underlayment? I don’t want it sitting on top of it and can I tape it? Thanks so much!

      Just go buy a cheap cement board, some cheap thinset, and some cheap tiles, put the cement board on a wooden table in the garage (clamp it down) and get to work. Weekend project.

    • @webcrawler3332
      @webcrawler3332 Před měsícem +3

      @@user-wq3qn8wq5s NO, just apply the grout with float over the gaps and not the entire tile or area. The tiles don’t need grout only the gaps. Speed, efficiency, and quality is the key with grouting. If you have tiny tiles like 1” or 3” tiles then I will grout over the entire area. But large tiles like has there, never grout the entire area, just the gaps.

    • @captainbenfield
      @captainbenfield Před měsícem +2

      Not to have a dig, But this is a very bizarre method of applying grout, You'll cause people a nightmare putting it on like that, Like the other chap says concentrate on the joint only (I'm a professional tiler)

  • @robertapreston4200
    @robertapreston4200 Před měsícem +4

    Sorry, Jeff. Spreading the grout all over the tiles??? That's a lot more work, couldn't you be more specific to the joints???

  • @elguapo5467
    @elguapo5467 Před měsícem +1

    Always use the whole bag, it avoids a whole lot of problems?? And what would those problems be Jeff? That we aren't smart enough to do the math and calculate the amount of water for half a bag?? What about smaller jobs? As others have stated, why apply grout to all the tile instead of concentrating on the joints?? Do you like a bigger cleanup, and waste? You're one of the better DIY dudes, but you're not the be-all end-all to DIY, and viewers should not take anything you content providers throw out as gospel.

    • @coracornett7159
      @coracornett7159 Před měsícem

      I wonder if it's because colorants or other ingredients in the grout powder could settle unevenly in the bag... so if you were to only use half the bag, you might not be getting an even distribution of colorants and whatnot. I'm not a grout expert, but that's just where my mind went.

    NEVER,
    AND I MEAN NEVER.
    Mix your grout and or thin set inside a house.
    When you pour that powder into a bucket it will fly everywhere.
