The Palestine Israel situation is heart breaking. The things that I've seen on video are so unbelievably cruel, nightmarish and evil that it's almost inconceivable that this type of thing can still be allowed to happen in 2023.
In expressing my thoughts, I'd like to take a solution orientated approach. This podcast is about finding solutions to problems and finding some comedy along the way...I'm not sure how much comedy I'll find, but I'm going to tackle this from an unusual angle.
I'm going to treat this whole Palestine-Israel issue like a MULTI-SYSTEM DISEASE…like a doctor. Look at the whole situation LIKE MY PATIENT.
I'm going to discuss the presenting complaint, take a history, offer a differential diagnosis, do an examination, special investigations, more detailed diagnoses and finally...offer a management/treatment plan.
Hopefully by the end of this we can find the healthiest way to approach this seemingly insurmountable problem, using the principles of medicine, health and wellness.

Dr Moosa, I have tried since I was a child to avoid and ignore Palestine/Isreal.
The two things I fear the most are Islamaphobia and Antisemitism. Being a Greek Coloured, I was brought up close to Muslem and Jewish people based on which parent I was staying with. So this whole topic frightens me.
It is because of you that I have been informing myself of what is going on. You have given me courage to face it.

Theodor was the face but it was the British evangelicals who thought one solution to the "Jewish issue" in Europe was to give them a place faraway (Uganda, Madagascar and Argentina were on the list later). Then, they gave International territory of Holy Land to themselves and then all Jews, while oppressing. So, I think it would be only right to move Israel to the Midlands or Scotland.

I've pretty much been bad-news'd out by all the stuff happening across our country and the world over the past several years. That's why I've intentionally avoided following a lot of news coverage of the conflict. As someone who's not Jewish or Muslim and has no connection to either Palestine or Israel it is probably a little easier for me to do than for most. I must say that of all the rhetoric and coverage I HAVE seen and heard this is among the most sensible I've come across. Thank you for that!

The great scene from “the kingdom of heaven’’appears to depict the mass eviction of people from Jerusalem(who had lived there prior to the Muslim conquest) by the Muslim conquerors.
How where the Muslim conquerors different from colonialists? They both, by forced, displaced people (or compelled them to follow their own way of life/religion). Yes, in some instances people could retain their personal religious convictions under Muslim conquest, and this is to be appreciated. But the same is true of the colonial rulers.
I just think that it’s not “symmetrical’ to praise the Saladin and yet slam the colonialists…is there really a difference? Humans who are more powerful oppressing those who are weak.
Hi Johnathan. I’m no expert but I think a fundamental difference is the philosophy of superiority of race. It is central to Islam that no one is superior to another, except by virtue of deeds.
The Prophet (Peace be unto him) said in his final sermon:
“There is no superiority of an Arab over a non-Arab, or of a non-Arab over an Arab, and no superiority of a white person over a black person or of a black person over a white person, except on the basis of personal piety and righteousness.”
Colonialism is very much based on racial superiority from what I’ve explicitly read in colonial speeches.
It’s also not allowed to rule over people unjustly in Islamic philosophy.
In Islam, the principle of not oppressing people is a fundamental teaching. The Quran and Hadith emphasize justice, compassion, and the importance of treating others with fairness and kindness.
One of the key verses from the Quran that underscores the prohibition of oppression is:
"O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness." (Quran, Surah Al-Ma'idah, 5:8)
Also in Islam, we’re not ALLOWED to force convert.
Forced conversion is NOT allowed in Islam. Islam promotes the idea of free will and choice when it comes to matters of faith. The Quran explicitly states:
"There is no compulsion in religion. The right direction is distinct from error." (Quran, Surah Al-Baqara, 2:256)
This verse emphasizes that people should not be forced to convert to Islam or to any other religion. Instead, individuals should come to their faith willingly and through their own sincere conviction.
That being said….ALL human beings are vulnerable to being pieces of sh*t. We all have darkness in our souls that are vulnerable to the whispering of ‘the devil’
And I’m not an expert but I’m sure there have been many instances where people of all races have been pieces of crap.
Which leads back to the fundamental teaching…

Love your comedy, but to think that the history here is done justice in one 36 minute episode seems naive. All killing on every side is terrible, and should be condemned, but to skip from WW1 to the Oslo accords is selective information at best, misinformation at worst. Its not that difficult to understand the current crisis. Read yourself the history and find the truth then. It did not start on the 7th of Oct 23. Killing, torturing and other vast cruelties have been perpetrated against the Palestinian people for more than 7 decades . Untold misery, psychological warfare and hardships are experienced by all those in Gaza and the West Bank.
