- What Is Roon? I currently don’t know, shall we find out over the next few episodes? I’m sure most of you will already know what Roon is, how to use it and hints and tips to help. Why don’t you let me know them in the comments?

Hey Carl I am in very much the same boat as you. I am lucky enough to have an amazing Hi-Fi system in my humble opinion but have no experience with roon. I'm looking forward to the journey we take learning about it. And I also must say l appreciate your honesty, if it's no good or it gets in the way you'll tell us.

I've been using Plex for several years now so I will be very interested to see what, if anything, I would gain by moving to Roon.

Unfortunately the HDMI is only for audio, it has no video component. I too wished I could connect it to my processor and view the album art on my TV but no luck…
I’m new to Roon. I had never heard of the company or it’s software until 3 months ago. John Darko was talking about it and I just happened to come across his videos. Surprisingly to me, Roon seems to be the software that I’ve always been looking for, yet I never realised. I flat out refused to spend that sort of money on their Nucleus. So I’ve got an older PC desktop (SFF) with similar specs and installed their ROCK server software.
It’s nice having Roon hold all my local files and integrate streaming services too, so you get seemless playback. Your devices are called endpoints. I can listen to music on my HomePod Minis, and transfer the sound to my phone, or to my DAC/Headphones. I think the software is great, and I’m certainly looking to buy a lifetime licence.

Thank you. I’ll be releasing Hifi content, just less frequently during the summer months. These videos take so long to produce/edit that it consumes a lot of my personal time and with two growing kids and a little house by the beach the draw to enjoy these years is higher when the weather is right. I hope that’s understandable.
So, what is the big difference to spotify or tidal? I don‘t get it!
Roon can not control Spotify, important to note.
