- Mark Kermode reviews Epic. In this animated family adventure, M.K (voiced by Amanda Seyfried) finds herself transported deep into the forest. There she is thrust into an all out war between good and evil. Banding together with a misfit bunch of characters, they set out to save both the forest world and the human one. From the creators of Ice Age.

The animation looks like a Lloyds TSB advert...
Well they record all the actors voices and then build the animation around that. Therefore the soundtrack is the foundation
The animation is build around the soundtrack?! How does that work?
4:10 for example what? which upcoming movie is Mark talking about?
Studio Ghibli? The studio behind Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, etc.
Look up the 'uncanny valley', its a theory that describes what you're experiencing
It seems tome that the more advanced 3d animation becomes, the greater the disconnect betweeh the actors' voices and the animated characters.
Thats what I was thinking
Well, imagine animating a dialogue scene and then forcing the voice actors to act along to it - it would be really difficult. Pixar and Dreamworks actually film their voice actors doing their voice acting then use it to look for little movements and gestures to make their 3D characters seem more realistic.
I think they do it the other way around in Japan. Not sure why. Maybe somebody wants to correct me on that.
Miyazarki???
In a time when Dreamworks have become creatively stagnant, the animation in this looks pretty refreshing. Shame the story doesn't sound "Epic", eh?
Fern Gully anyone? It looks pretty much like Fern Gully meets a bit of Honey I shrunk the kids. Kids should just watch Fern Gully, its the classic :)
terry pratchett?
"Just because you haven't seen something, doesn't mean it's not there" like a godhead of somekind.
